I find it odd that you said the volume dosen't raise and lower on these...The standard 3 button headphones that aren't noise cancelling made by Mac work fine...All buttons work as they are intended to.
Maybe yours worked fine in a newer model Iphone...I think the volume and mic is suppose to work on these and designed for both Iphone and Ipod.
Nice review. I love review on products. It give you a better ideal. I bought a pair of fake in ear apple headphones a synch cord, a car charger that USB for the synch cord and a USB wall charger. All for 15 bucks free shipping. From eBay. It took about 5 days for it to arrive. Everything works perfect. My volume button works on my iPhone 3GS just fine.
These headphones are terrible, too much treble, not enough bass. SOOO uncomfortable in the ears using all three tips. I cant believe i wasted $90 on these peice of shit headphones. :/ BEATS BY DR DRE ARE THEE BEST. Apple cant make headphones for shit!
Hows the cable been holding up? I'm a bit concerned about that because near all the connections it seems to have the same quality as the cheap stock iPod earbuds.
See, I'm one of those weird people that needs to keep everything the same, and these head-phones, useless, but because they are Apple and are the same company as my iPod, I'm buying them! I'm such an Apple fan!
Metal conducts electric currents so you can hear, the plastic rings are non conductors so they seperate the two earbuds to make it a stereo headset, but in this case apple has put a third ring to allow the mic to transfer the current, now the mic only has one ring because most mics are mono that split in to stereo when heard from a stereo device, usually shown like 1/2 mono mic. Hope that explained it well enough.
Im an electronic musician and we work with macs everyday. the number of rings on the end jack corenspond to the features of the headphones. for every function there is an indivigual cord running down the main cord such as the mic left and right ear phone up and down are on the same ring too. the reason why it doesnt work with older electonics is because they were only made for the 3 ring jacks. there for the function is grounded by the jack. doesnt do anything.
I apologize in advance for this if it seems like a silly question but would these headphones work with a Sony Walkman product. I have the NWZ-A728 model if that makes a difference. It's about 2 years old. Thanks a lot.
hey good review, im a big headphone person and ive always wanted to try these out to see if they're a improvement from the crap apple ones.
and those have 3 rings bc it's two for audio, and an extra for the mic. so that's why it gets quiet when they're all the way in, bc the mic ring is in it.
the third ring is for the mic and volume change, it shouldnt affect the volume on your kindle though

Rings separate the different electrodes on the plug. Three rings mean three different electrodes. The tip is not used for any electrode, I think.

@YU2tubepoop Consumer Reports reviewed in-ear headphones. Both the Bose and Apple in-ear headphones aren't recommended.
These had "Very Good" sound quality:
Klipsch Image S4i ($100) 76/100 overall rating
Monster Heartbeats by Lady Gaga ($95) 76/100
Altec Lansing BackBeat Titanium UHP326 ($30, $20 on Amazon) 71/100
Monster Turbine High Performance In-Ear ($140) 66/100
These only had "Good" sound quality:
Bose In-Ear Headphones ($95) 56/100
Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote & Mic ($80) 51/100
