It was primarily shipped to New York City for refrigeration (or Ice Boxes!). The ice was stored in a huge warehouse, covered in sawdust, and stayed frozen for an indefinite amount of time. An amazing industry that not only was active on Bantam Lake but Lake Waramaug as well! BIG BUSINESS!
