Great vid. The 13b is ok when burning gas that does not have ethanol in it. But if the rotory engine was awesome and great why do the only put it in 1 car in the whole world??? (Mazda is how i pay my bills so i know to much about them)Any increase in displacement is great for racing. 26B. Like mad mike red bull drift Or great v8 engines. If you want to be true to a rx7. Keep it on the road or track not under a tree with no love.
LOL, sufficiently owned by the bad-ass LS3, as usual. Putting that engine into a little ass RX-7, shit no wonder that Mazda probably could do some LeMans GT racing if you all set it up right.
Evidently you missed the fact that Mazda ALREADY WON the 24 hours of LeMans outright with a rotary in 1991. I think making 700hp for 24hrs straight is a testament to how reliable the rotary is naturally aspirated.
Hell, that engine was so much of an advantage that the peripheral port rotary was subsequently BANNED in LeMans racing.
The thing that most people miss is that rotaries are MORE reliable if they are raced, except for the turbo ones which tend to blow up.
I already knew all that, but damn that LS3 pulls hard, doesn't it? Ooh, you got a point though, the P-Ports were sick. I am quite partial to the sound of the teardrop port. They're a little smoother and less raspy, plus they got great low end for a rotary. I'm a big fan of normal-aspirated rotaries in old Datsun, Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Volkswagen cars. My friend he has a 1972 VW Fastback with a 12A in it. It sounds beautiful.
Teardrop ports are side-port based and have been superseded by the bridge port. Peripheral ports (intake and exhaust) are used in racing applications because they have superior "cylinder" filling at some cost to low end and admittedly poor emissions.
The raspiness goes away if you have four rotors. Then it has the same number of exhaust pulses as a V12. =D
Kyle - nothing to forgive. I thought the pass was awesome. I'm still very impressed with your car. When I posted this clip on one of my favorite car forums, someone repsonded with a link to a thread covering your build.
loudnslow - Won't be there with the PDA. I'm from Boston, so I'm going to be at NHMS on Monday and LRP next Thursday. I might not be back to NJMP until next summer. Hope to see you there.
hey man. im the one who posted the video of that RX7 going down the front straight. i was in the novice class so i only got to see u guys from the sidelines. i signed up the the NASA PDA on october 15th. maybe ill see u guys there.
Hey man! I meant to try to find you after that horrible pass... your car is fast! The lotus guys were very complimentary to your speed. You drive the wheels off that car. Hope you forgive me on the pass. Very cool video though.
Lol... and they say it won't handle well with an LS swapped into it. I say b.s.

Hell yeah, maybe it was just the one 12A teardrop RX-7 I had that sounded so smooth and sweet.

Peddle your junk engines elsewhere, the Rx7 in this vid was greatly improved.

it didn't make 700hp in race trim. No where near. Also it only won because all the porshe's/merc's/and toyotas broke down
