I have this phone. The best part is the keyboard but it makes it a heavy phone compared to the Desire. The numbers on the keyboard are shared keys so you have to use the function button which is cumbersome. Battery life is a bit ordinary. But in summary, it has all the benefits of a HTC Desire and the Android platform with a keyboard. Best phone I've owned so far.
I like the HTC Desire but this looks so much better as I never got on with txting on touch screen. Physical keyboard it has to be. But I always got poor signal on the Three network in the UK on the HTC Desire.
many thanks for the reply!. i can live without a slide out keyboard , the only thing that's getting me hooked to the z is the build quality of this beauty! and there's not much of a price gap between the two and another thing on my mind is a known issue doing rounds is the wifi dropping problem being experienced by the incredible s on gingerbread update. ;(
This review is really great thanks! Just wondering how long will the battery life last if i send around 20 texts p/ day and a couple of 2 minute calls, and just some small internet browsing. So basically light use daily will it last the whole day? Thanks
@Josh360slam It doesnt feel too weighty Josh, just solid and robust. Really theres quite a big difference between this and the Galaxy S. The Galaxy S is higher up in specification but doesnt have that fantastic slide out full QWERTY keyboard for fast emails, texts, status updates etc.
Nexus S is a beauty if you want the top dog features. Check our channel out for the review we did on it. The Desire Z is one of the best qwerty keyboard phones if you really want that.
Nexus S got 2.3ginger bread but its Samsung HTC desire z will have the update for that also you can see what you payed for made out of very high quality materials

@DrWeedeater You certainly can and it's super easy! You just select the MP3 you want to use and then select to use it as ringtone, you can even trim the MP3 down and select a specific section to use as your custom ringtone. Thanks, e2vids.
@kolumbs321 we like it Kolumbs, it feels solid and robust. Yes, granted, it feels slightly heavier than some other similar smartphones but not so much that would put you off. Hope that helps.
you know.. there is an amount of vids here on youtube showing this hinge issue..
when you pitch the phone a bit.. for instance in lying position.. the display claps down.. or generally the display is too flimsy at all and hangs down if you hold the device just on the keyboard.
@oOLegendGuitarOo We did not experience any problems with the Z-Hinge whist we were using the Desire Z. Quite the opposite in fact, I thought the snap out QWERTY keyboard was one of the best i've seen as I mention in the video. I really enjoyed using this smartphone, we will take a look at some of these videos you have mentioned.
Very durable and well built. Battery life is ok, similar to other smartphones, extensive use of multimedia and internet will mean you will have to charge it often. Talk Time is up to 590 mins. Texting is superb on both the touch screen and keyboard. The keyboard is by far a lot easier to use than most other models out there.
@WIZARDTOONTOWN This is obviously based on opinion but on specs, design and features i'd take the HTC Desire Z. That QWERTY jkeyboard is superb, HTC do fantastic things with Android and it looks like Premium handset. HTC Desire Z gets my vote over Milestone 2 Wizard :)
I've had two of these phones, both of them have broken to a point where I haven't been able to use them.
The first was something to do with the cable between both pieces of the phone.
The second was the speaker used when talking broke.
I really enjoyed the phone, the keyboard was fantastic.
Besides the keyboard breaking I have only one main problem. The phone lagged a lot. A LOT.
^ Just a warning for anyone who wants to know ^
Tomorrow I am getting a Samsung Galaxy S 2 :)

The Galaxy S 2 is coming out in the next couple of weeks. You may want to hold out for that :)

display
call quality
touchscreen responsiveness.

For what you use it for it will last fine for a day. As with most high powered smartphones you will need to charge it up every day or so.

is it true that the Desire Z is faster than the Desire HD?
Even though Desire HD got a 1Ghz processor? (Desire Z 800MHz)
I heard it was due to the new processor model or something :)
adam1611 1 year ago

They are both really good. You won't notice the difference to much until you max out the memory.

Memory? It's Expandable : MicroSD, up to 32GB

@E2vids Oh! and is the screen wobbling in closed mode a big deal? and will the keyboard break after a couple of slides? I'm gonna get this beast :D!
WIZARDTOONTOWN 1 year ago
@WIZARDTOONTOWN
We never got a chance to record with the camera. It's a 5.0 megapixel camera with HD record so it will be of a very good standard.
The keyboard design to open and close is one of the best we've seen. It will last without breaking. As long as you don't throw it off a building!
