@aGooProduction - I just cut the clips when I wanted to speed up a part and used the 'Speed & Duration' settings to speed that new segment up. I use Premiere Pro; but it's a very simple technique. =)
quick question here, how do you actually keep the focus right when both of your hand have to be on the mmc? what is the aperture you using? i guess should be above f4?
Great vid mate! Congrats! By the way, Could you help me? I am thinking about to buy a Hague, but I saw on youtube, there are many people, whose just bought the Hague MMC (which is smaller than yours) and the footage is good as well. What do you think? Is it enough to buy the smaller one, or buy this one?
It depends on the size / weight of your camera and if you plan to use any on-camera accessories (microphones, lights, etc). If you have a heavier camera like a Canon 7D / 5D MKII or are going to use a 550D with any accessories then you'll need to get the bigger one to compensate for the extra weight. =P
The 550D and any smaller HD Camcorders will work fine with the MMC; as long as you don't have any accessories on there. ;)
@PrashArtPressBlog - I use just a microphone (a R0DE Stereovideo Mic) and didn't need any additional Hague items. The DMC is able to support the camera and accessories. =)
I have a Canon 550D - is there going to be that much difference between getting a Hague MMC and a Hague HMC? The price points are very different - the MMC being £62 and the HMC being £155? Thanks for your help.
@Editor02Channel - It depends on camera accessories; if you don't use any (microphone, lights etc...) then the MMC will be fine; if you do use any (like I do) then you'll need the extra weight-capacity and support of the DMC. =)
Crazy how good the video + music go together, it's like the music was made from the video! But anyways what's your setup on the stabilizer?(How many washers, how far back/foward is the camera sitting on the mount etc.)
As for the setup; I used only the two big, black weights (none of the smaller silver ones) and kept the mounting screw in the center of the mount. (horizontally) Then I simply moved the camera gently backwards and forwards until it didn't tip either way. It took about 10 minutes and it seems to work every time! =P
I watched the video & thought wow this clip reminds me of Half Life. Noticing the music I swear I had heard before it took me 3 seconds to put 2 and 2 together and see what the song title was called. Only place I've heard it was the Black Mesa Source trailer. Did you have anything to do with the trailer or is it just coinsidence?
Also is it difficult to focus the camera when its mounted on the rig? Because if you are touching it arent you affecting the balance of the camera?
@Punisher4000 - Haha, I have nothing to do with the Black Mesa mod, although the style of this test was inspired by their trailer as you noticed. ;)
Yes, unfortunately it can be very difficult to adjust focus while maintaining balance, although due to the nature of 'steady-shots' it's usually enough just to set the focus before recording the shot. Having said that, I have had to adjust it while filming several times and it isn't very noticeable, not if you're careful. =)
It feels pretty solid, especially when weighted with a camera and accessories. I should imagine it will have no problems in the long run. (I've had it for 3 months now, and use it a lot)
As long as you don't exceed the weight capacity and don't push it beyond its limits, it should last for a very long time! =)
well for now i just use the 18-55m lens and will probably be getting a rode video mic but i think if i figure out a way to get rid of the grain and hissy noise i might now. i do not know how much £150 is in american money
Do you have any accessories for the camera? (Microphone, LCD monitor etc..)? If so, the added weight will require the DMC. If not, the MMC should be fine. =)

did u shoot at 60fps and then use that adobe premiere to speed up sections smoothly like that? and the effect and filter? its nice :)
bweeeda 1 year ago
@bweeeda - I shot at 60fps so that I could slow some of the shots to about 50%; the 'speeding-up' could be achieved smoothly with any speed. =)
As for the filters, I used a Newblue Film-Look plugin and some built-in Premiere colour-correction. ;)
