Hey pal...just wanted to let ya know about some more native plants!! The wax myrtle you spoke about in one of your videos is also great for insect repelent! Native Indians used it for this purpose. Also there is a tree here around my southeastern home called the osage orange! It grows wild and Im not a 100% if edible but it smells just like a normal orange. If not edible it could be used for scent cover or bait maybe....what are your thoughts?
@bpilcher6799 I have never seen an osage orange in real life, all that I know about it is what I read on wikipedia. I have a big fruit that grows around here called tounge nut. They are suppose to be poisonous, but I don't know for sure.
@bpilcher6799 Oh yeah wax myrtle is good for keeping fleas away if you put it in your dog bed. I sleep with my dog, and am not really willing to fill my matress with wax myrtyle. Another tree that I have found in my yard is camphor. That works for the same thing.
@yec1JF I am in the process of ripping all of my agricultural products out of my raised beds and planting native species. I have yet to locate any lambsquarters. I was told that Quinoa was almost the same as lambsquarters so I bought some but it had been processed in such a way that it wouldn't sprout.
I have chickweed. I just took out my magnifying glass and looked for the hairs and when I broke the stem there was that inner stem thing just like green dean showed in his video. Thank You to Everybody who helped. It didn't look like the pics that I found on the web, but I found out that there are many varieties of chickweed and I did find one pic that looked like mine.
Some say that chickweed tastes like raw corn? Let it flower, because the flower may tell. It has 5 petals that look like 10 because the petals of the flower looks like two separate petals but are actually only one. I'm not really sure because when grown in the north it has smaller leaves, but it wouldn't be unusual for them to grow larger in your area. I can't wait to find out what this is. I'm going to keep checking. Let us know if you find out for sure.
@Sheila6325 I have chickweed. I just took out my magnifying glass and looked for the hairs and when I broke the stem there was that inner stem thing just like green dean showed in his video. Thank You to Everybody who helped.
@SustenanceNCovering Great! I found, what I think is some, in my yard too, so I'm going to try it out. I'll have to wait until we don't have anything but mud in the yard, but I can't wait to try it. Just love the free stuff!
God is so good, for letting us find all the wonders He planted for everyone. I've found a lot of new things to eat, and it was during the winter too! can't wait for the summer finds.

@Iam1uglyguy I live about 12 hours from him, but would love to make one of his walks one day. I have been looking at his video about chickweed. This might be it.
@Iam1uglyguy If I actually find out what this is I'll change the name of the vid to whatever this is. Even if someone tells me that this is poilson I love the flavor too much to not keep eating it.
It looks, to me, like Chickweed, because of the little white flowers, though this looks much bigger than the version We find, in Canada. It should taist and have the consitency of a fiberous bean sprout. I'ld have to see it in person to be sure.
@cernunnos5 I just looked up some vids and pics of chickweed. I can hardly wait till morning to compare it to the description that green dean gives on his channel
@SustenanceNCovering The bunching habit looks like chickweed but the leaves look different. One of the tells for chickweed is that it has a single line of 'hairs' on the stem. When the hairs get to a set of leaves, they will move to the other side of the stem. Need a magnifying glass to see them, they're tiny.
@SassafrasHomestead I have chickweed. I just took out my magnifying glass and looked for the hairs and when I broke the stem there was that inner stem thing just like green dean showed in his video. Thank You to Everybody who helped.
@jeffgail99 You weren't suppose to see me eatting. Now I have to confess. I ate two mouthfulls of this and a swallow of wine. (you'll see that in my next video series)
@SustenanceNCovering Dang that bites, how about the local school? do they have an Ag/FFA class? Maybe a local University campus nearby, they would have a Botany Dept for sure or even a Botanical Garden may know what it is if you are near one.
@SustenanceNCovering You must live near LSU, because I couldn't be sure if they knew dirt from soil when I went up there to ask questions.... Government workers all.
@MrBillTroop73 I did that before and never got a response. I noticed that he had about a thousand comments a day so it didn't really hurt my feelings. Plus I always feel funny sending videos to someone. Especially if he has a video posted about it already. It's like he went thru all of the trouble of making a vid and I didn't bother to watch it. I actually have every one of them downloaded to my external hard drive, but he just has too many to remember them all.
have it my yard too, I was thinking that it came from the chicken feed I have been buying, my chickens graze freely, so it is all over my yard, looking for an answer myself

Shepherd's Purse: "Young Shepherd's Purse leaves have the zing of the mustard family" or
Wild Mustard: "If caught quite young, mustard greens can be tossed sparingly in salads. After that but before the plant blooms, they are good fried.
