  • The one thing an artist gets off on is to be taken seriously and to be interesting to someone. You can clearly watch the happiness in p.t.a`s eyes in this interview... He`s in film heaven.

  • what a glorious human being.

  • pta seems slightly drunk,

  • Pause it at 1:25 to see Bruce Willis.

  • @bigtastynuts wow! you're good.

  • He seems like exactly the opposite of an asshole in this interview. He has to be oned of the most cordial, gregarious and humble film directors to ever be interviewed. Even to the pretentious interviewer's point of the film being "nihilistic" (which it's anything but) he says "I couln't argue with you." He completely understands and respects subjective interpretations and seems genuinely receptive to anyone's opninion of his work.

  • I've heard PTA is a dick, which I sincerely hope is untrue. He's too brilliant to be an asshole.

  • i think pt anderson would be a great actor

  • 5:41 wtf

  • PT's reaction at 0:59 is great...

  • stoned

  • Just 'cos he speaks with a French accent doesn't mean he's intelligent Paul.

  • Trash... can.

  • @drumlegend1

Hhahah i ould love to see someone high say that

  • Paul Thomas Anderson is always completely candid in this interviews. It's almost shocking, but as a film student it's fascinating.

  • i like the extreme close-ups.

  • this is such a great interview. also this movie is my favorite ever.

  • yeah this dude is a character he seems like he's totally smashed... but his movies are fucking awesome

  • I love how low key this is.

  • He is either very exhausted or pissed drunk.

  • dont you mean punch-drunk? HAHA!

  • @Dejital yeah dude, as simple as that, just look within.

  • What's the name he says at 0.37- jacques tatine?

  • Jacque Tati - he made the wonderful comedy Mr. Hulot's Holiday

  • Hell yeah. Not to mention Play Time, guys a fucking genius.

  • @rtmiyake2 Quoting Lynch there, perhaps you should cite him on your next name drop session.

  • OMG this is awesome

  • 2:53 ...kurt cobain !!!

  • This is PTA's musical. He even said that himself, and if you watch it, you can find little hints of where the film/story bounces around with the surrealistic score.

Like when Adam's character (Barry Egan) calls Ema's character in Hawaii, if you look closely, when she says "Hello", the phone booth lights up.

  • this is hilariously awkward

  • lol espicialy between 1:22 and 1:30

  • Anyone, including this interviewer, who thinks this movie has anything to do with nihilism or consumerism is a complete idiot. Talk about missing the forest for the trees.

  • I love that the interviewer thinks that Barry being on the phone the all the time is some sort of statement about alienation and consumerism, but Paul just thinks, "Jesus, he's on the phone ALL the time." Filmmakers notice that sort of stuff, when they go to plot devices one too many times. You can tell he was amused.

  • stupid fking interview, all these social comments and bullshit, get over yourself stop smoking pot

  • Firstly, nothing wrong with smoking pot. Secondly, you don't know that he smoked before this. Third, to me he looks more as though he's at the end of or is in the middle of a very long day.

Contributing to the mood is also this painfully dull interviewer as well as the photography.

  • no I didn't mean PTA he's the man, I mean the foreign interviewer asking ridiculous questions

  • This interviewer is a TOTAL idiot. He didn't SEE the film.

  • the man wants to get twisted....he can get twisted..why's everyone bitchin'?

  • the french interviewer is an asshole

  • God, he's the man. And drunk as fuck. lol.

  • If i was jet lagged and had to do interviews with french people all day i would be sauced as well!

  • lol pta. wow. less coke, more sleep.

  • i think he'd speak alot more in those silences if he was on coke,

and a lot more repeating himself.

  • I love how the camera zooms in on his pupils to check out if they're dilated.

  • and indeed they are.

  • DRUNK

  • Judging from the black marks under his eyes it appears to me that he's not drunk or stoned but very very tired, jet-lugged and working very hard promoting his movie and probably giving a hundredth interview trying to get his point across

  • i love this man, he is very cool

  • Audience picture? Entertainment movie? Bulls**t. It is amazimg but it is neither of those things.

  • he is so lovely...and drunk.

  • Cocaine is a hell of a drug!!

  • he still makes coherent and interesting points, even if he is stoned.

  • not even coke can stop pta

  • This is one high son of a bitch

  • it's not a nihilistic movie... to me

  • he's so fucking cool.

  • I think TheJabberwock may be on to something.

  • he's my favorite director by the way.

  • I think it would be ignorant of me to say that I didn't think he looked severely coked up...but that appears to be the sad truth.

  • japperwock is right....

  • hes not pretending to be scatter brained.. Dude, the interviewer is being pretentious.. and looking WAY into parts of the movie that PTA didn't mean to be looked at so in depth.

  • that nigga been sniffin dat blow

  • deepochristo, there's no release date yet, other than that it's expected to land in 2007. also, i can say with absolute certainty that paul isn't pretending to be scatterbrained here. he wears his influences on his sleeve and he's not hiding anything.

  • his mind's racing a million miles per hour. its funny how it seems hes not paying any attention to those complicated questions asked

  • i am the biggest PT fan. but how he pretends to be so scatter brained about his material, makes me upset. he fucking knows the answers to the questions, just choses to with hold the information, and act like its serendipity. ugh. haha. it makes me appreciate his work more, as an artist. the secrets are meant to be kept i guess. thanks guys good post.

do you have a projected release month on the there will be blood?

  • as far as I'm concerned, he's not pretending at all, or being dishonest, or choosing to withhold the information. Is it so hard to believe that he just makes his movies and that he has the talent to make them well enough to have any number of things read into them?

  • i totally agree with dalisman. i think it shows how honest his films are. he doesn't plan to bombard u with messages, he focuses on character, and any points he makes are just true to his thoughts when he writes. he says something similar in the henry rollins interview about making a point about oil companies.
