It's New Year's Eve, and that always means i'll be thinking of him. In an odd coincidence, i saw Rick for the one and only time , exactly on that date. it was his New Year's Eve Performance at the Palomino club in Pasadena , CAlif. ~ as 1982 turned to 1983. exactly 2 years to the day before he died. i believe that was the very show he met his current galpal at the time he died. He was my idol for years as a boy and as a man in my 20s....
guys I am just a regular guy....Damn Rick was a good looking guy....nothing gay or sexual intended...he was just pretty to look at...I see why women swooned
Rick at the pinnacle of his talent....this era of his music is glossed over in favor of alot of other bands..and its a shame.......watch and listen to this non stop....to think what kind of status he would have garnered had he lived like Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson......
thanks so much for sharing this. I quit looking months ago for this era of Rick Nelson. Its just haunting music. What feeling this band gave. thanks again
That video was great and thanks for posting! I also think Rick Nelson was at his best with the Stone Canyon Band and well ahead of his time with their music.
with lyrics like these, if someone would say to him "You will die in a plane crash on such a date", he'd shuck it off.Ricky was groomed from birth into music and the industry of making it, seems that after great stardom for years, he became saddened by it.
NitroMan, I could not agree with you more. This era was Rick Nelson at his best. The Stone Canyon years were my favorite. He put out some excellent albums including the live album he referred to in the intro in this video. Windfall, Rick Sings Nelson and Rudy The Fifth are also great records that were discracefully ignored by radio and the record buying public. Had he not been Little Ricky Nelson first perhaps he'd have been given his due credit for these records.
thanks so much for posting this timeless piece. It is an amazing song and I had the pleasure of hearing Rick's twin sons singing it in their "Ricky Nelson Remembered" show last month and it was breathtaking. Thanks again
Ricky Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band .. featuring Randy Meisner, Allan Kemp, Tom Brumley and Pat Shanahan. I feel this was when Rick was at his best .. this man was so under-rated and was a big part of music history. But his music lives on.
I worked with Rick during this time period and he poured his heart out into the music.
Thanks for the video's they are so hard to come by.

It hasn't been that Easy To Be Free, since December 31, 1985. I remember this show. It was my idol on my dad's idol's TV show.

This is from Rick's best period, far as I'm concerned. He chose wisely when he recruited Tom Brumley on pedal steel.

Best Rick song ever...SCB equals UNDERRATED!!
I think that's "Fang" on the Bass (Raiders) as opposed to Randy here.
