Not really. My cat Shadow has access to her food all the time, yet hunting bugs is her favorite thing to do, especially crickets and moths. I think it's a "I'm a hunter" thing, really.

This is why when we got my cat, I begged my mom for another from my cat's same mom (p.s it was her last litter) and my mom got me a kitty (I still have him) he's still a baby. And they are the perfect pets for me cuz I got a very bad fear of bugs and spiders. :D
