funny is I actualy do this sport and they both fight pretty lame. 6'5" lungrenn have so much potencial in body but with shitty technique like that he is probably better stay in movies
@SweetZombiJesus well I've actualy been to European championships a they are guys who fight 10x better than this guy. short clip ? well after 10 years of experience a dont need to see any more (and I dont realy care hi is like 60 today eh ?).
@SafironX Well he has won some championships, so I am not sure what to say. Maybe the talent pool has evolved in Europe over the last 30 years since he fought? In any case, I am sure you can deal with it.
@veshkeat I agree in sport(especially in martial arts) height is big advantage. Because fighting sports have rules. These rules forbid using techniques which would be efective against taller attacker. Today if you go to karate world championship, you wont see small fast Japanese guys win, you will see two metres tall black guys with freakishly fast and strong attack. Thats why I said that Lungren in this video is not very good. This fighting is not worth world championship.
damn ... I'm not an specialist but those guys don't have technique, I mean compared to the late 80's Andy Hug or Matsui ... or even Filho and Midori mmm this might be some regional or something but world championship I doubt it
@Charlitos1988 No, it IS the 1979 World Open Tournament. Lundgren was actually a green belt at the time but the tournament was open to brown & above so he wore a brown belt just to compete.

@TEMUJINARTS What are you talking about? You sound like a shy virgin little boy trying to make a point but are too frightened to be able to express yourself appropriately enough for it to make sense.
They are allowed to punch, kick, and knee. But no punches to the head and no holding the head and then kneeing the head. But if somebody just happens to bend over and gets kneed in the face. It might be legal, I think / I guess. I am not absolutely sure about that one, hehe ;p :)) !!!
@DifangDuana This is the 1979 Kyokushin World Open Tournament and it is legal to hold your opponent for up to 2 seconds while striking them. Dolph scored a legal knockdown by holding his opponent and striking with a knee to the face/jaw.
No, that was not a hit. He was holding the guy's head while kneeing him in the chest :) . Not technically legal, but I think at the moment of impact he had released his hold, so that hold might have been overlooked, heh. Not to mention his large frame must have obstructed the referee's view of the hold, heh ;p :)) !!!

I have to disagree with you on this one a little bit. I have done both, and with boxing you really don't get hit as much as you do in a full contact match. Also with padded gloves you don't feel the pain like you do with bare knuckles or feet. And I have never been punched even close to as hard as I have been kicked in the mid-section, or legs.
@JeffreyJamesLippold I've done both as well. IMO an 8 round boxing match with a 6'6 russian with a perfect record was by far the hardest fought match I had in comparison to any kickboxing or wrestling I've done. Those gloves only protect so much, boxers are trained to hit very hard with their fists, moreso than kickboxers. Both fighting styles use their legs and hands, just differently. Pain is relative to the opponent and the person.
Realistically though, there has not been even 1 boxer enter MMA or K1 etc that is in his prime or a top ten fighter. There is just too much money to be made boxing for those ranked fighters. Regardless of how they would do, there has been NO decent boxer in K1.
Milk do you have any links or info on that? I doubt Dolph has the hardest punch on record, he would have been able to go a lot further in the fight world. But maybe he didn't want to, I dunno. I know Dolph shattered Stallones ribs with one punch. I think Dolph if motivated could have become a heavyweight champ, for real.
Dolph your kicks sucks but you are have a great personality and the best muscle body and not to forget you have a degree in chemical engineering, very impressive
His kicks DON'T suck. They are not as fast as say Norris, Li, Lee, or many many MMA or ISKA fighters. Why? Because he is a freaking giant! But he manages to hit! Why? He knows how to use his size, and his punches are faster then people give him credit for, I Saw him doubling up on Oleg when he was 47 (although I hear he was older) and his punches were actually quite good for someone in that age who is not a professional grade BOXER. He is a martial artist. One of the greats, wish he'd teach
bemy. Dolph Lundgren is a karate champ. He is a real karateka, not just some Hollywood action man like Jet Li. I think he was the Australian karate champ too.
HAH! I got a black belt in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and I am an amaetur boxer, 19-0-1draw and 17kos, heavyweight. I also study Krav Maga. Which kicks the shit out of anything but can't be used competetivly. Karate, certain forms, like Tae Kwon Do, are not too great. But they certainly don't suck! Muay Tai is being shown to be not nearly as good as the hype. There are far more fighting forms coming into light that are being modernized and Karate is going to take a part in this. Krav Maga is the futur
Finally, I don't know wtf you think you are. But if you went in there, whatever style you want, against Dolph on those mats, he would FLOOR YOUR ASS. So don't talk shit you can't back up. today he would still wipe the floor with 99% of the population. Remember 1% is still quite a bit of people. People, low kicking is where it's at, Steven Seagal had it right in his shit, (if only he kept in shape, he is really deadly), low kicks=keeping your center. Avoid kicking altogether if possible. Throws..
am a big fan of dolph, so i ve got nothing against him,,just to let you know, no art is better than any, its just the fighter that picks up well and adjusts accordingly, but yeah i dont like the katas and stuff, i am in no mood to boast how many blackbelts ve got and whats my level!!!
No art is really better then any but...Krav MAga is not an "Art" martial or otherwise. Neither is Boxing, it is a science, I guess you could say it is an art, it has rules. But Krav Maga is a system of combat, it has NO RULES, it makes no exceptions. It is brutal and quick, and proven over and over again to be the ultimate form of taking down an opponent. Thus the best special forces units in the world use it. They could take any UFC fighter in a real battle to the death, I firmly believe this
Continued from above: As well as any martial arts master I can think of. Moreihi Usheba (SP?) was my most respected master of any art. Almost magic looking in his technique. But it was the "Art of Peace" and yes, some of the greats like him might be able to drop some of the great Krav Maga fighters. But average, take your avereage Krav Maga Special forces grunt, who's training regimen (SEAL, SPETZ, ROYAL MARINE) is on par if not more then UFC level, and they will win 8/10 time, no doubt.
And you are one of the biggest morons I've met. I have plenty of fight experience in the ring, something tells me you can't say the same. You probably take those little karate lessons down the street that are overpriced with the fat instructor and think you actually know something. Shut your stupid trap you moron.
One of the main reasons a regular american boxer could take down most karate students is they on average have far more endurance, are used to being hit, and good at not getting hit. Karate studios all over the world vary so much that while some are very tough, very competitive, and even bare-knuckle competition. Most that I've seen are just choreography and belt-grabbing, when I was doing it the very little "sparing" we did was dull and useless. Krav Maga on the other hand....
hoboboxerjoe. What you say is very true. Karate is a great form of exercise and good for timing and coordination. However, as you say, many karate students are not used to being hit.
I think that boxing was always considered a "working class" sport. You just had to be tougher to survive. I loved the film starring Paul Newman who played a person who learnt boxing in prison.
Howdy, thanks for the support heh. Some people on here actually do know a thing or two (like myself) and it is one of the few subjects I have confidence of my knowledge about it. Anyway, you are talking about Rocky Graziano (or Graciano), the "other Rocky" during the time of Marciano. Graciano was a light-middleweight champion. The film was "Somebody Up There Likes Me."
So, in case you wanted to know, there ya go :). Rocky was a great fighter, guys named Rocky aren't to be mucked with hehe.
@hoboboxerjoe Thanks for the info on the Rocky's, I do know that Heavyweight Rocky Marciano had a perfect record and retired undefeated but, most of all those fights were in the Light Heavyweight class and not in the heavyweights.
Actually Rocky was under 190, but his opponents were often over 200. I believe some were 220, 250... for the most part they were near his weight but over 190 is heavyweight. Light heavyweight is under 175, he only had 2 or 3 fights with people that weight.
No he wasn't. His heaviest was 192.5 against Keene Simmons, his lightest was 178. Most fights he was mid 180's. Boxrec has all of the official weights, fights and results.
@JoedirtMike He fought several opponents that would at least be considered close to "Super-heavies" by todays standards. I know two opponents were pushing 6'4-6'6 and were known to be big hitters. Whoever made the Lt.Heavy comment about Rocky doesn't know much about the Rock's power or career.

On the other hand... Every time a boxer tries to fight his way in K1 he gets his ass kicked.
Yes, many boxers are more used to getting hit than martial arts- fighters but on the other hand they´re not used to being hit below the waist.
So being an user of TaeKwon-Do myself, which is an art that contains much boxing I would sweep the legs of a boxer.
My club is one that puts the emphysis on sparring though.
Have the deepest respect for boxers too.

Actually Rocky was under 190, but his opponents were often over 200. I believe some were 220, 250... for the most part they were near his weight but over 190 is heavyweight. Light heavyweight is under 175, he only had 2 or 3 fights with people that weight.

rocky was 202 lb's

No he wasn't. His heaviest was 192.5 against Keene Simmons, his lightest was 178. Most fights he was mid 180's. Boxrec has all of the official weights, fights and results.

My bad i'm thinking you meant Rocky Balboa lol
Terminator860 2 years ago
@JoedirtMike He fought several opponents that would at least be considered close to "Super-heavies" by todays standards. I know two opponents were pushing 6'4-6'6 and were known to be big hitters. Whoever made the Lt.Heavy comment about Rocky doesn't know much about the Rock's power or career.

Yeah Kyokushin doesn't allow punching to the face and it doesn't have weight classes.

He kneed a little guy in face, big deal... I thought he was going to actually fight an opponent. And the Swedes are proud of this clip?
