  • great dance record, bit of a foxtrot, then breaks out into a bit of lindy!!!!!!!

  • PERFIDIA (TONIGHT) To you my heart cries out Perfidia, For I found you,

the love of my life, In somebody else's arms

Your eyes are echoing Perfidia, Forgetful of our promise of love,

    You're sharing another's charms

With a sad lament, my dreams

Have faded like a broken melody; While the gods of love look down and laugh

At what romantic fools we mortals be And now I know my love was not for you

And so I'll take it back with a sigh, Perfidious one, good-bye.

  • Great version, Thanks for posting it gave me great pleasure.

  • For me, the best version of this great song. Helen really knew how to sing. Thanks for posting

  • bellissima !! thanks a lot for sharing!!!!

  • I love Helen Forrest - she had away with a song - latter day I think the one who came the closest to her voice, look and style is Ann Jillian. Loved both there voices. Thanks for posting this great find! As for Mr Goodman, right there with Artie Shaw, they are tied for #1. I enjoy their playing.

  • Probably the best version of Perfidia

  • @MrEvilPuppy No "probably" about it.

  • the king of swing......sweet

  • Just one of the greatest recordings of all time.

  • simplemente descomunal,.no bastan los elogios para esta obra maestra de el gran goodman y su vocalista helen forrest.

  • My mother always requested this music when she went out. She has been in the hospital for the past three months, she asked that I copied this tune to her ipod. This is one of the best versions I have heard to date...SUPERB!

  • Hi, hope your mother is getting on ok. If she likes this then it may be worth trying to get hold of 'Ampola' also by Benny Goodman and still with Helen Forrest on vocals. Best wishes.

  • wow que voz me gusto!!

  • To me, this fine music is a reminder that there was a time when popular music could also aspire to art. The same was true in dance with the popular Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. This music is still alive in the US...and around the world, I understand...in the many high school bands, who get an excellent grounding in such good music.

  • versión impresionante de Perfedia! gracias por osting ella.

  • Great collage. When I saw the record label I immediately flashed on my mom's face and how she loved her 78's, this among them. Thanks for the upload.

  • sheer perfection

  • spectacular clarinet, silken voice

only artie shaw and ella can compare

  • Recorded on January 28, 1941, and arranged by Eddie Sauter.

  • this song is awesome!!! i wish i could sing like that!! but im a guy. Theres no way i can sing that high... great song

  • I love this version. I have the original record too!

  • Me too! I love it blasting it on my old tube powered player.

  • One of my favorite swing tunes. Helen Forrest had the voice of an angel with just a little bit sexy thrown in. Excellent!

  • Benny Goodman, Helen Forest, Perfidia. Oh, yeah! Best swing!

  • So refreshing. This is beautiful! Wish they had music like this today!

  • Long Live the era of "Big Band Music"

  • the ventures did a redo of this. it sounds pretty cool. anyone heard it?

  • Indeed, The Ventures recorded this (instrumentally) as a follow-up to their smash hit, "Walk Don't Run."

The Ventures came out with "Perfidia" on the Dolton label late in 1960, and that version is available on YouTube. It's among the Favorites listed on my channel.

  • Goodman and Forrest kick ass on this classic ...long live real music ...What a recording,

    Thanks for putting it up

  • This one take me back to my childhood days. What a song! What a singer! What a band! What a delight to hear it again.

Thank you so much for sharing this great posting.

  • Good to see so many lovers of great music here, I wish we could all dance to this music right now. XO

  • check out paxguns, you old dog you! way to be there as a lady killer, good job and you go for it Tiger

  • Thanks for posting this fabulous music I love it

  • Just fabulous. Thank you for making my afternoon!

  • oh thanks so much for posting I missed benny goodman, the king of the clarinet.

  • Thank you my dear lady. As I said before, your taste in music matches mine and if you are ever in England we could listen to my record collection by candle light.

  • helen forrest is superb

  • Helen Forrest one of the greatest band singers. She sang with Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Harry James. Then She made a lot of duets with Dick Haymes. Both Helen and Jimmy Dorsey recorded My Sister and I a bif hit for Jimmy in 1941. My sister and I remember still, the tulip garden by the old Dutch Mill and the home that We called Our own until, but We don't talk about that.

  • beautiful, this is proudly a Mexican song!!!

  • many thanks for your comment .

  • BTW Joan, you have fantastic taste in music, and I thank you.

  • Thank you, my pleasure .

  • I agree with joeasmythe, you have great taste!

There is a Hellen Forrest/Benny Goodman song called "My Sister and I". It is not an upbeat song but is a very poignant wartime song about a young Dutch girl and her sister. Have you ever heard it? I think it was written by Harry Warren.

  • Hi, thank you for your comment, i know Jimmy Dorsey/Bob Eberly's version of My Sister and I

  • Great uptempo swinging version of Perfidia from BG...Helen Forrest is one of my all time favorites...along with the big band work that Doris Day did with Les Brown and also Jo Stafford. What an era!

  • ha ha at 107 you probably saw her!

    Yep, what a dame!!!

  • Well, I'm only 6 years old, but I started counting my birthdays backwards many years ago :)

  • I always lie about my age. 107 is twice my IQ

  • Perfidious one be mine, from Princess Tracie , a little lesbo love there .

  • nice video! thanks! swing is king.

  • What a fantastic recording. Swing at it's best.

Helen Forrest was a truly remarkable singer,

fronting the three greatest Bands of all time-- Artie Shaw,Benny Goodman and Harry James.

She was a class act,one of a kind.

  • Great Band: Great Singer: Great Song.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Nothing can top this song and Benny playing it. Lord please bring back the swing era

  • Preferred Artie but hey what a great song.

  • Always been a toss-up, imo, between Benny and Artie, I am just happy to be able to see and hear them both

  • Mmmmmmmmmm. Swing truly is King.

  • It sure is
