I love Helen Forrest - she had away with a song - latter day I think the one who came the closest to her voice, look and style is Ann Jillian. Loved both there voices. Thanks for posting this great find! As for Mr Goodman, right there with Artie Shaw, they are tied for #1. I enjoy their playing.
My mother always requested this music when she went out. She has been in the hospital for the past three months, she asked that I copied this tune to her ipod. This is one of the best versions I have heard to date...SUPERB!
Hi, hope your mother is getting on ok. If she likes this then it may be worth trying to get hold of 'Ampola' also by Benny Goodman and still with Helen Forrest on vocals. Best wishes.
To me, this fine music is a reminder that there was a time when popular music could also aspire to art. The same was true in dance with the popular Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. This music is still alive in the US...and around the world, I understand...in the many high school bands, who get an excellent grounding in such good music.
Indeed, The Ventures recorded this (instrumentally) as a follow-up to their smash hit, "Walk Don't Run."
The Ventures came out with "Perfidia" on the Dolton label late in 1960, and that version is available on YouTube. It's among the Favorites listed on my channel.
Thank you my dear lady. As I said before, your taste in music matches mine and if you are ever in England we could listen to my record collection by candle light.
Helen Forrest one of the greatest band singers. She sang with Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Harry James. Then She made a lot of duets with Dick Haymes. Both Helen and Jimmy Dorsey recorded My Sister and I a bif hit for Jimmy in 1941. My sister and I remember still, the tulip garden by the old Dutch Mill and the home that We called Our own until, but We don't talk about that.
There is a Hellen Forrest/Benny Goodman song called "My Sister and I". It is not an upbeat song but is a very poignant wartime song about a young Dutch girl and her sister. Have you ever heard it? I think it was written by Harry Warren.
Great uptempo swinging version of Perfidia from BG...Helen Forrest is one of my all time favorites...along with the big band work that Doris Day did with Les Brown and also Jo Stafford. What an era!
great dance record, bit of a foxtrot, then breaks out into a bit of lindy!!!!!!!

PERFIDIA (TONIGHT) To you my heart cries out Perfidia, For I found you,
the love of my life, In somebody else's arms
Your eyes are echoing Perfidia, Forgetful of our promise of love,
You're sharing another's charms
With a sad lament, my dreams
Have faded like a broken melody; While the gods of love look down and laugh
At what romantic fools we mortals be And now I know my love was not for you
And so I'll take it back with a sigh, Perfidious one, good-bye.

Glenn Miller's version is way superior with more feeling. This version is more of a pop version...

One of my favorite swing tunes. Helen Forrest had the voice of an angel with just a little bit sexy thrown in. Excellent!
