Jackie graham was the best black female singer that britain ever had and i reckon she was better than Whitney Houston.
For me, her music had a meaning and a purpose to it and love, empathy and compassion was what i felt through out the 80s when I sat listening to her records.
Todays music is manufactured and artificial (rubbish).
Todays society im sad to say is lacking in essence and Jackie grahams music shows just how much society has lost its community spirit!
I saw Jackie singing "Saturday Love" with Aleaxander O'Neal in Tunbridge Wells as his special guest in 1986. She may now be Cherrelle but she's damn close. Bought this on 12 " vinyl as soon as it cam out. Class.
@stevelane48 Hey man I agree with you 80s Rocked I collect all the classics from the 70s and 80s .Wish I could just go back in time . I love this track
I was a 16 year old lad when this came out' me and my friends would tape stuff like this off the radio then play them on ghetto blasters while hanging around the streets. We were always being told to move away from peoples house's because our music was to load.
Contrary to what some say there IS music like this these days - unfortunately its the exception not the norm. This is a fantastic track! Tell me you wouldn't want to meet your soul mate listening to this track.?? :P
I LOVE THIS CLASSIC 80'S R&B SONG SO MUCH!!!! This song brings back very good memories of high school!!! They sure don't make music like this anymore!!! Old school music for real and forever!!!
I had this one on an album... Wasn't it right about the same time she did "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love" with David Grant? (I had that AND I remember the video!)
yeah this is a tight track, thanks for putting this one up for real, jaki has that sound - I was checkin my email, got subbed and this song is their featured video so the groove just hit me and took me back- i had a nostalgic moment - I've always liked her voice but hadn't heard this one in too long, gotta luv YTube
damn, this brought back memories of driving from Napa to San Francisco after a hard days work looking to relax and enjoy the scenes in the city. I miss the fog coming over the hill and dropping into the city for the evening. Taking a cruise on a ship in the bay enjoying some champagne. But, those days are gone and so are artists like this. They only live in memories now. Thanks for good thoughts brought back heyroz27
agree with all below , u can go to any wedding , party niteclub and this music comes on and everyone is up dancing not like the rubbish so called Rn b today
Why do people always use Duran Duran, Wham, FGTH etc to summarise the 80s? Yes they were big and very successful, but if you were out pubbing and clubbing in the 80s, this is the music you would have heard. These are the tunes you would have made a move on that boy/girl to.
A million times better than today's r n b music, which is sooo dull. Back then it was called "Soul Music", why on earth did they start to call it r n b? Can't understand it, maybe it's my age.
DAYUM! Has it really been 25 years since I heard this song? The U.K. was tearin' up R&B all over the U.S.! Let me think...Total Contrast, LOOSE ENDS, Princess, FIVE STAR, Jaki, of course, O'Chi Brown, T.C. Curtis, Mel & Kim (Mel, R.I.P.), Imagination, Paul Hardcastle, and last but not least, SOUL II SOUL! I know I'm missing a few, but there was a point in 1986 where I thought U.S. R&B was lagging behind.
@CookyMonzta LOL yes you got most. Forgot 52nd St and JR. British R&B was progressive during this time. US R&B was phasing it's late 70's and early 80's funk into a poppish sound which was the trend that all music was gearing to back then.
@heyroz27 Soon as I logged out, 52nd Street popped in my head. I bought their album 'Children Of The Night' in 1986. It's still in my racks. "Tell Me (How It Feels)" went to #9 on the R&B charts in the U.S. That song got plenty of airplay on the Quiet Storm on WBLS in NYC.
Those were the days. These tunes remind me of my youth. Don't forget Junior & David Grant. I love 52nd Street, produced by Nick Martinelli who did a few for Loose Ends, you can see some similarities in both their tunes.
@soulsolution99 And how did I forgert Lisa Stansfield? Her rise to fame in the U.S. was aided by 2 things: The popularity of house music and neo-soul (thanks to Soul II Soul) in the U.S and U.K., and a unique vocal ability that, by 1992 (after "All Woman"), very nearly made her a legitimate successor to Teena Marie. Though far as Lisa was from Teena, none who have come along since have even measured up against Lisa.
@soulsolution99 And I forgot one more name in the pantheon of U.K. soul: JUNIOR! His first 2 hits in the U.S., "Mama Used To Say" (1981) and "Too Late" (1982), were the beginning of the British R&B invasion that played a big role in shaping R&B music throughout the 1980s and beyond. And to a slightly lesser extent, I would add the Quick's "Zulu" and "Rhythm Of The Jungle".
@CookyMonzta In 1986, 36% of the music on the U.S. Billboard top 500, was English bands/UK music. Today, 2% of English bands/music is in the U.S. Billboard top 500.
@CookyMonzta You like all the acts I like...still listen to! Had the 12" of this song, and many of the ones you mention, love 5 Star, O'Chi Brown and Total Contrast
I've just stumbled on this video, and I'm very glad I did! I'm in my 50's, but remember this as if it were yesterday. It's very touching to read all the comments on here, and the other versions posted. Good to know she's still singing - perhaps I will have to book a cruise...
Like everyone else, I find nothing this good on the radio today - someone mentioned Radio Caroline, which I was an avid listener to. I still have many tapes and cassettes from that era.
Glad that they glammed her up a bit. Her hair was originally a rat's nest and her teeth were a bit needy. Her voice is fabulous. I wonder what she is doing now ?
