My head teacher (a nun) at primary school would sing this hymn at assembly, she had a beautiful voice, we also played/sung this at close family funerals, a lovey song for lovely memories, now I work at the same school and love to sing this at assembly 35 years later.

This song was played at my nan and grandfather's funeral and I simply couldn't sing it by the time I got to the second verse because it made me so sad. But it is such a compelling and perfectly written song, and brilliantly sung, that I can play it time and again and occasionally sing it all the way through as I should have done at the funeral!! I often heard this hymn at mass on a Sunday and always wondered what it was called because I would like it as a hymn during my wedding. It is such a lovely hymn and you sing it beautifully Maureen. So touching. It was only when I heard a clip of it played on the local news for Constable Stephen Carroll's sad funeral that I knew what it was called. Tragic. Pray for our well earned peace not to be taken away from us.

I really like this church hymn, we used to play it in the folk group at church which my parents ran. My mums no longer with us unfortunately but this is the only song which makes me feel close to her. And of course your version is the best!! Joe

I went to my best friends funeral today, he died suddenly of a heart attack. I hadnt heard this hymn before and when the congregation sang it, i was like angels suddenly were singing for Peter.
