How about we allow employers to pay what the job is worth, and thus offer more positions? So in short order, those getting the min. wage bump will see a slight improv. in purchasing power initially, but in time, if they could only afford a combo meal at McD's with an hour wages, the prices will rise to once again only give them a combo meal at McD's with an hour wages. You can't ignore the VALUE of the services they provide, regardless of what $ amt u put on it.

Inflation rose faster starting in 1974, thus raising prices, and causing a larger difference in income to purchasing power. So you're saying in addition to normal rises in pricing due to inflation, we should also increase the costs to do business by raising the labor costs? Those making the "new" minimum wage STILL would only be able to purchase the things they could before the wage hike.

So, even if you find someone willing to work for that wage, you can't hire them! How about we allow employers to pay what the job is worth, and thus offer more positions? So in short order, those getting the min. wage bump will see a slight improv. in purchasing power initially, but in time, if they could only afford a combo meal at McD's with an hour wages, the prices will rise to once again only give them a combo meal at McD's with an hour wages. You can't ignore the VALUE of the services they provide, regardless of what $ amt u put on it.

Inflation rose faster starting in 1974, thus raising prices, and causing a larger difference in income to purchasing power. So you're saying in addition to normal rises in pricing due to inflation, we should also increase the costs to do business by raising the labor costs? Those making the "new" minimum wage STILL would only be able to purchase the things they could before the wage hike.

I'm a tax accountant and am absolutely sick of people using this tax breaks for the rich argument. Are you aware that 97% of the taxes paid in this country are paid by the top 50% of income earners? The "rich" are the ones paying the taxes in the first place, and should have every right to the benefits of a tax break.

Precisely, they're aren't going away - so why deprive yourself of the option of talking: that just limits options. Moreover, lumping together secular Ba'athist regimes with Iran and claiming to fight a "war on terror" against all of them just limits your options still further. Why not try isolating Iran for a change? It's not as though current policy is working too well. And there are plenty of people on the Right who'd argue this line, incidentally. All you're saying here is "I hate Pelosi".
