"Trojan:OSX" is just a generic name for a OS X Trojan.
There are several OS X Trojans, but none of them actually exploit a security flaw. The only security flaw exploited by those Trojans is the user, who is stupid enough to download the program and type in his/her administrator password.

This isn't downloaded with movies or music, it is downloaded through fake antivirus adverts or, in your case seeing as it came through LimeWire, you got it from downloading STOLEN software! Why, because the only way this can get onto your system is by downloading it, unpacking it, installing it and authenticating it with the Admin account password. You would only do this if you thought you was installing something else!

The more people that use Apple products, the more viruses that will be wrote for them. If you really want to be safe, use Linux. That's probably what the people writing the viruses use themselves, so that they don't mess up their own computers while testing. They can run Windows and OSX in a virtual machine.

The hardware may look the same but ram and hard disk have different firmwares and have to be certified from Apple and the tests are way harder. talking about displays, acer and toshiba buy the panels apple rejects. its worth the extra price because you can use your mac almost 24/7 for years. so don't say you waste money, its just that you would buy something you may not need.
That's a common (at least common to me) threat in Limewire. If the search result shows a file containing the exact words from the keyword you entered, and the file size is not common for the file type you are looking for (e.g. 500kb for an mp3 song file), then most likely it's something malicious (e.g. virus, trojan, worm, etc.).

Macs can't have bsod, they can get kernel panics. But they are much more nice to watch. Instead of having a blue screen, the screen freezes there is a grey overlay and a text that tells you to restart you computer.
@TheWindowshasser Blue screens are hardware failures and sometimes third party software failures. Look at the stop code most of the time it is a hardware stop code. I have not gotten a blues screen in 7 years. What people do not understand is that BSOD is usually not Windows fault but the computer companies fault.

No, the Antivirus software for Mac is not a scam because Windows viruses dont work on a Mac.
The software is good for both sides. (ex. Transfering a infected file and transfer to a Windows operating system, such as software or documents.) When the Mac Antivirus catches the malware it can prevent it from spreading to Windows operating systems where it may be executed.

I find it really annoying when people say that Macs never get any viruses. That's mainly because all of the people who make write viruses use windows because it is far more popular. I'm pretty sure though, that if OS X was as popular as the latest windows os's, then there would be a huge surge in Mac viruses.

and just like with linux, even on less powerful hardware Mac OS X runs way faster and smooth than Windows.
i know people who bought an iMac just to use it as a screen.

macs are not overpriced. they've never been overpriced. they just have very high quality components that a REAL user needs. but since most people does stupid shit with their PCs, they wont notice the difference.

@mat5813 Thats just the screen. How can the range of colours it can produce over time be ajusted to prevent it from diminishing? The image quality will degrade but not for a very very long time. It's cool, but pointless unless you plan on using your screen 20 hours a day for 10 years. The hardware in the actual machine itself is identical to hardware that can be found in Windows and Linux machines, making the claim that Apple hardware is somehow superior and worth the extra price, redudant

The hardware may look the same but ram and hard disk have different firmwares and have to be certified from Apple and the tests are way harder. talking about displays, acer and toshiba buy the panels apple rejects. its worth the extra price because you can use your mac almost 24/7 for years. so don't say you waste money, its just that you would buy something you may not need.

That's a common (at least common to me) threat in Limewire. If the search result shows a file containing the exact words from the keyword you entered, and the file size is not common for the file type you are looking for (e.g. 500kb for an mp3 song file), then most likely it's something malicious (e.g. virus, trojan, worm, etc.).

Macs can't have bsod, they can get kernel panics. But they are much more nice to watch. Instead of having a blue screen, the screen freezes there is a grey overlay and a text that tells you to restart you computer.

@TheWindowshasser Blue screens are hardware failures and sometimes third party software failures. Look at the stop code most of the time it is a hardware stop code. I have not gotten a blues screen in 7 years. What people do not understand is that BSOD is usually not Windows fault but the computer companies fault.

Yes anything can get a virus, not that surprising. I mean come on Mac are all fine and dandy but when it comes to upgrading they are terrible. When it comes to protection sure, only because it's easier for virus programmers to get through windows. Is it hard to fix a PC, sure its sometimes a tad hard. A mac? Good luck with that shit.

Also there are a lot of exploits which hackers can use. Also macs have viruses but just dont indicate them so they are running in the background without you are recognizing them. BTW if software gets hacked fast its apples just look ate the jailbreaks. Macs hardware is trash and overprized as well.

I agree, I had a Phising attempt on my mac that my anti-virus software Virus Barrier X6 picked up. The only reason I installed originally was because my bank account got robbed 2K through internet banking done on my MAC. Boy, did I cop some Bullshit from diehard Mac Fucks! Trust me I LOVE MY MAc but some people are just simply FUCKED UP, they didn't believe me that this had happened and all i was after originally was some anti virus advice. @fpsbcheezit They don't get viruses. Background processes on a mac need permission by the user, and there is no API/bug/glitch to lock up the UI, or change system files. Hence, it's almost impossible to make a Mac virus that is hard to get rid of.

dont get anti- virus for macs especially ones which use heuristic detection, they only detect viruses for windows not mac. Since there are no known virus signatures for any known mac viruses they cannot be detected by any sort of anti- virus

Anti-viruses using heuristic detection compare suspected files on your computer and then compare them to the virus signatures or a KNOWN virus. Since there are NO KNOWN viruses for MAC the Anti-Virus software cannot find a virus for MAC. These anti-virus programs are using the virus signatures from windows and comparing them to MAC's. Windows viruses are not compatible for MAC's so its a scam

No, the Antivirus software for Mac is not a scam because Windows viruses dont work on a Mac.
The software is good for both sides. (ex. Transfering a infected file and transfer to a Windows operating system, such as software or documents.) When the Mac Antivirus catches the malware it can prevent it from spreading to Windows operating systems where it may be executed.

@TheMrDisser intel chips, foxconn motherboards, ati & nvidia video cards, wd & seagate hard drives. Kinda sounds like a windows machine.........but that would be my mac. Anybody who says the hardware sucks on a mac hasn't a friggin clue about any computer, both share pretty much the same hardware. The difference is bios vs efi and then an os on top.
