This is great. Don't forget this is a tutorial. The music is just the excuse, to focus on the workings and not be distracted away from the technical elements. Good wrkk, helpful
Hey man how's goin? i hav M POWERED 8 PRO TOOLS, everythin is workin ohrigh but one think is that when i bounce 2 disk or export the file it doesnt play on window player or any others, it says it needs codec 2 play the file. wat do u think s the problem and 1 more think how do record tracks on 1 track? cheers
I am trying to quantize the sounds like in this video with my hardware synth (dave smith mopho keyboard)....If I do not play a part perfect, how can I fix it like a software instrument on an instrument channel?... I am currently plugging in dual quarter inch into my mbox and record on a audio channel. The mopho has midi in and out....Could someone please help me!?
I can't understand why anyone would choose PT over Logic. I had the opportunity to play with it yesterday and I must say I would choose Logic (or Cubase) over this anytime. If you're into midi & softsynths then Logic is a far better alternative than PT and a lot more value for the money.
@probbarn No kidding. Also your extremely limited in PT on how many tracks you can have. I use logic and sometimes I might use 80 different channels. To do that in PT you would have to spend 600 dollars on an expansion back. PT might be good in a studio where funds are limitless, but for small time you and I it's a bit of a rip off.
Not even for large orchestral projects I need that many tracks. And I doubt most other folks will. Apart from that you get an audio interface, PT8 and a basic set of virtual instrument. I don't think it's as bad as you make it look. Name me ANYTHING similar for the same money.
I personally don't like Pro Tools because they still don't have PDC etc, I'm using Reaper and Notion
And yes, I would choose PT over Logic. Because I see no reason to waste my money on a Mac. Why should I?
@GRAFq well good for you. I'm happy that you like what you like but obviously your needs and mine are much different. I could really care less if you are on a mac or pc. Doesn't matter to me.
Cubase 5 has something called Logical Presets which can transpose one octave up or down, double tempo, half tempo, adjust fixed or random velocity on MIDI instruments. Does Pro Tools got this feature?
i gotta tell ya, i just upgraded for 150.00 and i'm into edit music lala land, this upgrade is every bit as good with the sales pitch or not. It gives an amazing level of creative freedom just not available in the earlier 7 version. (i was at 7.3)
Can someone please help me out ? I wonder how Phil does this... when he plays midi on top of midi that he had recorded before it does not erase what was there before but me when i try to record midi or add another instance of what midi i already have, pro tools automatically on its own erases what was already there... I don't know if i am making sense but does anyone knows what i mean ? basically i want to be able to record midi without pro tools erasing what i recorded before...
Have you got Dynamic Transport on? This confines your work to a certain area of the song, however many bars you want. Also check to see you are not recording in 'Destructive Mode' and that you have 'midi merge' function enabled in the transport bar, that's all I know cos Im new to this :)
Could someone tell me if there's a feature in Protools that allows you to make sure that all the songs you're ready to burn on CD will be at the same exact volume? Would love an answer!
IMHO -- Pro Tools 8 is still playing catch up with Nuendo 4. I have been a long time user of PT, but Nuendo simply shines over PT in terms of tracking, editing, and mixing. PT8 is exceptional, but Nuendo has this professional edge in terms of use. Too -- my ears honestly hear the difference when it comes down to a master from Nuendo vs. PT. Again, it all probably boils down to your preference.
Hey I know Pro Tools is a professional program, but currently I use FL studio because I dont record anything, I only use VST's with midi. Would Pro Tools have any advantages over FL studio when it comes to Midi and hip hop production?
sure, but u will need specific (digidesign or m-audio) hardware if u wanna run pro tools on your pc... btw, i dont think pro tools is the right program if you "just edit some tracks" ;p ...and its also kinda expensive ^^
just joking. I totally agree with you, mucho respecto goes out to this guy. If your into this stuff I would highly reccomend checking out the technique section of the Sound on Sound website. no videos but some excellent articles giving tips on all the main programs: Logic, reason, Cubase, ableton and Pro-tools. I would also reccomend using Logic pro. It owns
tell you what. He might sound like cheese. But this man knows his stuff. =)
I know your just simply stating your opinion or maybe just joking about it. However, let the man show us his stuff. There's a lot of people who would die to learn this, and hes showing it free of charge.
@bookofchapters Hello... Thanks for the positive vibe.. :-) I think at this point any type of music used for demonstration purposes would get people to comment. This is one of the hardest parts of making a video, choosing something that gets the point across is the most time consuming. Regards, Phil Jackson. Love it!
hey does anyone know how to use samples drum kit samples with a midi controller on pro tools. like Fl studios you drag the kick and you can play it on the midi controller. or do i need to have a midid controller with the sound built in?
I don't know FL Studio at all, but it sounds like you need a sampler. Something like NI Battery (or their new Maschine) would be ideal for use with drum samples. Alternatively you could try Digi's own Structure, which is a more all-rounded sampler, but not so clever with drum samples.
This is Phil Jackson! He knows them all, guy has worked for most of the guys in the industry when it comes to digital side. Guys at Apple made big mistake when they let him go. I have known Phil since time he was in Emagic. He actually had his own tutorials for logic and thats how i got started on logic. Digidesign is going to make tons of money with this guy.
Ableton also showing the names of slices in midi edit window - very usefull feture, why Pro Tools can't have it???
maciekkk123 3 months ago in playlist fuck they peace im at war wit these beats
Its all nice but there is ONE BIG MINUS!!! .. if you really working with a lot of samples ..
lets say you chopping loops n you want to program your music/beat in midi edit window with a pencil tool - YOU GONNA BE LOST!!!
It would be just great if there would be some switch so I could label my slices on piano keys on left - so instead keys I would see my slice names!
With any sampler even freeone I could do some sequencing..
Pro Tools is great but FL Studio = 100 times better in this subject!
