Containers would be opened and compared to the results. It has been done before with several dowsers Failed.
@UnderManlac This experiment probably fails because, one...it has to be a tree twig cut like a wishbone where it has a pointer and the person holds the two ends while they walk along to find the water. Second...the reason this sort of dowsing works, is the water is moving below, as an underground river and the dowsing rod/twig can indicate the electrical flow of the water at it's strongest point. I have witnessed my Dad do this many times, and watched him dig the wells that still work today.

Once a person knows of an underground water source it's not too difficult to extrapolate the probable location of another well along that route.

These wells were found by dowsing. I have no interest in experimentation because I know it works.

I want to set up an experiment with as many dowsers as I can get to run an experiment. My bet is on random chance being equal to their hits. Guess you are not curious.

@UnderManiac The water has to be moving and you can't just use a pendulum, my dad cut a tree twig off a tree and found the water everytime. You can't use jars of water because it is sitting and doesn't create an electrical charge that can be detected by dowsing. It matters not if you believe in dowsing. The occult is a lie, but the practitioners still try, and they actually believe it. I used to believe in the supernatural, but have done a lot of investigating both sides of the debate. It has taken a while, but after lots of research, my conclusion is that the supernatural does not exist, including god, angels, demons, and the devil.

@GRIDKEEPER What makes you think I haven't tried it? I made rods as a teenager and tried it. I've taken a lead fishing weight on a chain and tested it. This is where I found that I was the one controlling the pendulum. I held my hand steady, in an apparatus, and thought "straight", then "circle", and "stop". I found it worked every time. I could feel the veins in my fingers pulsing making the chain work for me. That's when I began to investigate further and found dowsing is fake.

Anyone who wonders about dowsing wasn't around when this is how they found alot of things before the electronic devices were invented.

It would be a double blind experiment, where water is put in an insulated container and there are several empty insulated containers scattered around. Neither the tester, nor the dowser, would know the location of the water. Given 10 tries at dowsing the containers, the tester would record the results. Containers would be opened and compared to the results. It has been done before with several dowsers Failed.

@UnderManlac This experiment probably fails because, one...it has to be a tree twig cut like a wishbone where it has a pointer and the person holds the two ends while they walk along to find the water. Second...the reason this sort of dowsing works, is the water is moving below, as an underground river and the dowsing rod/twig can indicate the electrical flow of the water at it's strongest point. I have witnessed my Dad do this many times, and watched him dig the wells that still work today.

@iamyourmuse Not according to many dowsers, who claim they can find other things other than water. Many dowsers use metal rods. Why would there be any more electrical flow in moving water than in standing water?
Once a person knows of an underground water source it's not too difficult to extrapolate the probable location of another well along that route.

@UnderManlac Why would I need to do an experiment when I have seen it done for myself and successfully so? I have never witnessed anyone doing dowsing with metal rods. I don't know if that is reliable or not. The only reliable source or way of doing dowsing, AS I HAVE SEEN for myself is the way my Dad found many wells, and didn't know where the water was and where to dig. These wells were found by dowsing. I have no interest in experimentation because I know it works.

You don't know that you father had, or didn't have, knowledge of the water tables in the areas he was working in. The memory of where wells were found on other farms in the area influence the next time he dowses for water.

@UnderManlac You obviously have time for an experiment...try dowsing in some field, out in the middle of nowhere with a twig from a tree shaped in a wishbone. Hold both ends with your hands tightly and walk along till the twig points down so hard, you can't hold it upright. There is water flowing there and a good spot for a well. That's it. I don't need convincing, I have seen it work so you are wasting your time trying to get me to do experiements on something that I already know. Good Day!

In fact british gas, southern water and many electric companies in the uk used dowsing to find pipes and cables and it works, I've spoken with employees that have done this. I want to set up an experiment with as many dowsers as I can get to run an experiment. As with someone else who has posted a video on the experiment, I would keep track of their "hits", then have the answer revealed. This would be proof that dowsing either works or doesn't. My bet is on random chance being equal to their hits. Guess you are not curious.

This is why I told you to try it in some field, pick one, do it yourself, get a bunch of your friends together with some tree twigs and a camera man and see if you can't find water.

@iamyourmuse Dowsing does not work. I have tried the technique when I was a younger guy. After several tries, nothing happened. I even went as far as trying to dowse an open stream, nothing. What I want to see is someone prove to me it works, but doing the experiment. That is the only way to say conclusively that its real. Neither the tester, nor the dowser can know which container has the water. Only one person setting it up would, and he should be away for the experiment.

You have to work at getting what you want, influence people into helping you to that goal. That is not intent. It's diligence and hard work. @UnderManiac The water has to be moving and you can't just use a pendulum, my dad cut a tree twig off a tree and found the water everytime. You can't use jars of water because it is sitting and doesn't create an electrical charge that can be detected by dowsing. It matters not if you believe in dowsing. I witnessed it, and I was a kid, and my Dad explained that he didn't even know why it worked but it worked, and we drank the well water that he made and found by dowsing for it.

@jakeotron Actually, science is testing a theory, conjecture, or claim under rigorous tests. The best way to conduct a test is with the double blind technique. Where the tester nor the testee know where the target in a test sample is. Several tests must be conducted (the more the better) to eliminate "luck" or chance.
When tested properly, dowsing has proven to not work at all. No better than chance would allow.
It is pseudoscience.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

I have had at least 4 non believers use divining rods, well brazing rods. I like them were non believers, but it worked for me and my neighbours. I do not think that it has anything to do with the brain. I must admit that I do not have a theory, but do believe that anyone can do this.

I don't know about all that chakra stuff, but I do know that dowsing works for us to find water--waterlines underground, cistern tanks, septic tanks, underground water sources. My female cousin bought property with no water and thought we were nuts telling her to dowse before drilling. Gave her 2 bent coat hangers and had her walk over to where I knew a spring was located (under grass, she knew not). Sure enough, the wires crossed when walked over it-she was amazed! 'Y' branches work too.
