HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! LOL!!! ROFL... An ALARMING novelty! You get it? "Fire" an "ALARMING" novelty. It's like a fire alarm, and fires are generally quite alarming! And in this song, you hear fire alarms... this is quite a novelty! Oh my! Ahaha!
The more you try to make it sound funny, the funnier it gets and you can't stop laughing... it's very, very, very dangerous.
Thank you for posting this. My grandparents had bought my father an edison when he was a boy & I use to go up in his old bedroom as a kid and play this song over & over. No clue what brought it to mind but it sure brought back some pleasant memories =).
Ah! A late 51K-series Edison disc. Oliver's cornet, Reser's banjo, and Stacks's vocal come through very clearly! Even though the Brunswick mica can cause feedback and lessen the surface of the disc, this still sounds good!
to FranklinBolton: Yes Brunswicks do play DD's pretty well! I have owned one for years, and love it. To another ? below, Most Brunswicks are fully acoustic, this is a hybrid machine, designed to play the late 20's electricals, but acoustically. My Brunswick has the "flipable" Ultoona head to play 78's, and this looks like it does too.
Yes...Otis and Ambrose (my two cats) are basically "checking the scene" out all the time. Especially now that there is a camera pointed at them once in awhile!

Didn't know other "players" could play diamond disc. Was Brunswick the only other company to produce Edison clone machines?

My cat sits in front of my Victor Victrola while it plays. He is really drawn to it. He prefers male tenors for some reason.
Great record! Thanks for posting it.

The vocalist (Tom Stacks)actually died in a fire a few years later.

At the beginning of the record, Otis the cat did not seem to be alarmed.
Fun stuff.
