On her vegan episode with Biz Stone, she said she was "not vegan, yet". Martha, does this mean you are vegan now? How do you suggest we stop animal cruelty beyond supporting farm sanctuary? Going vegan is easier than trying to track down if your meat is "humanely raised".
9 BILLION ANIMALS A YEAR!! JUST FOR EATING!! IN THE U.S. ALONE!! NOT COUNTING CLOTHING AND ANIMAL TESTING OR WHEN WE GET TIRED OF OUR PETS AND DUMP THEM AT THE SHELTER!!
This industry that profits from the misery and death of others want to make it a felony to expose their practices to the public. We need to push back against the multi billion dollar industry that has much of state and federal government in their pocket.
Thank you Martha! i've been working hard for the past few years to buy only free-range anti-biotic/anti-horomone meat that was fed a natural diet. I have also cut my meat consumption and hope to eventually be completely vegetarian. When people know better, they do better. Spread the word!
Thank You MARTHA THIS IS GREAT Farm sanctuary picked a great spokesperson I hope this reaches billions ... The only way to stop this madness is to GO VEGAN I hope some of my friends do it in 2012

Thank you, Martha Stewart! It gives me hope to see someone like you speak out. I am always so saddened by how many friends who are otherwise caring people, would rather turn their backs and not know about the suffering of our food animals, who co-evolved with us as surely as cats and dogs. I am vegan, but I appreciate everyone who is willing to speak out against factory farming.
Thank you Martha for acknowledging and informing people about the cruelty of factory farming. It takes a lot of guts for a public figure to take such a stand against such a powerful force in factory farms. They won't go down quietly so thanks again Martha and thanks to everyone that's eliminated meat from their diet and or at least reduced it.
Where do you think H1N1 came from? Factory farming, yeah, outsourcing of America's creation, Corporate factory farming helped create this contagion and I'm sure many more are brewing as these atrocities continue. Mother Nature does get even for the cruelty mankind inflicts on all lives, yes even animal lives. Animals provide us with companionship and yes food This alone should provoke a humane respect for these creatures of the earth. GO MARTHA!!!! You still got it!
Going vegan is a start. But these atrocities will still happen The best thing to do is to get active and become knowledgeable about the food you are buying and the producers you support with your dollar. Educate people. Don't be afraid to speak your mind. People will try to justify cruelty anyway they can. It still doesn't make it right! With celebrities like Martha Stewart speaking up, it shows that animal cruelty can't continue to hind behind the walls of a factory farm for very much longer.
In addition to these cruel and inhumane practices, the egg industry is now pushing federal legislation that would keep hens forever locked in cages. Learn more and sign the petition today! Please visit STOPTHEROTTENEGGBILL.
This is a very important message and I commend Martha Stewart for trying to educate others. If you believe that animal cruelty is wrong, then you should educate yourself about how the majority of animals are raised in this country for food.
It is all about the big factory farms. You simply cannot produce the most product, in the fastest amount of time, at the lowest possible cost, and do it humanely.
It's easy to STOP animal cruelty,GO VEGAN! It's been proven that humans thrive better on a plant-based diet by The American Dietetic Association, the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.
There are SOME small local farms that do their own butchering, after raising their animals humanely. Watch Food Inc, and you'll witness some. It's true though most animals are considered product and treated worse than garbage me toss waste into their trucks. Remember all animals used for vivisection as well. Dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys - tortured for superfluous "information" on ridiculous theories, just to get a grant and a paycheque.
@20LookInside12 Sadly, Polyface Farm in Food Inc. does not slaughter all of their own animals. The cows (and probably pigs) are send to a slaughterhouse.
@madlymadlytube It's a shame. We used to have a butcher come to our farm to do the very few animals we slaughtered when I was a child. Now it's likely outlawed by ignorant govn't officials. At least they were raised well, taken good care of, and killed quickly without transport or torture. It's a shame too, the world will never go vegan, but the animals should be treated with honour all the way to a quick and respectful end. After all, they are literally being Sacrificed for peoples Sustenance.
Thank you, thank you Martha. Now it would be good if your people would read this comment (since you probably are too busy with all that you're involved in) and give you feedback to have you become a BIG advocate for the farm animals using the 'power' that you can use. Hopefully, this could be a calling for you and your legacy would be wonderful for this. Please think about that.
So does that mean Martha is going vegan? And like auntyq wrote, "all animals end up on the same long filthy hot or freezing horrifying transports to the same horrific slaughterhouses . No matter if they are local "Humanely raised " or factory farmed .There is no humane way to kill an animal."
@fastgurrrl, I doubt she's going vegan, but who knows. Vegans should be very careful not to turn off a giant. She's raising awareness for this very important issue and we know such public figures are quite influential. If she never goes vegan, I'm okay with that. Think of all the other public figures who do nothing about animal cruelty. People tend to change better and stay changed when they believe they did it on their own terms.
The only way to know for sure how an animal is treated is if you go to the farm and spend a lot of time there yourself . Animals are raised for profit not as pretty scenery and even so called "family farmers " don't like to be too friendly to their "product" . Also all animals end up on the same long filthy hot or freezing horrifying transports to the same horrific slaughterhouses . No matter if they are local "Humanely raised " or factory farmed .There is no humane way to kill an animal .
In other words, the meat from the fast food and frozen dinners etc. is produced this way. Support your local family farms. Buy your meat from your local butcher shops, as the supply is from local farms, and each and every day there is a government inspector present to make sure all animals are dealt with humanely.
@rebeccasheep Not true , There are not inspectors everyday . Where the hell id you hear that ? Cruelty laws are very limited and rarely enforced . There are very few family farms left and they exploit and kill animals too . If you really care about animals don't pay for their exploitation and premature death . Go Vegan !
Thank you Martha Stewart! Whether a person is a meat-eater or not, ALL people should be supportive of humane treatment of animals. In doing so, and supporting it, people will come to their own decision to reduce or eliminate meat from their diet. In the meantime, at least be humane.
@newroses52 I agree with you for the most part, but, as auntyq wrote just above, "all animals end up on the same long filthy hot or freezing horrifying transports to the same horrific slaughterhouses . No matter if they are local "Humanely raised " or factory farmed .There is no humane way to kill an animal."
The vegan/vegetarian movement is growing! Even martha stewart, oprah, steve o, mike tyson, people we'd never expect to give a proper human herbivore diet a try, are on board :) Gives me hope for the future. Of course, it wont happen over night, people wont all stop eating meat in the same way they wont all stop smoking, it's a matter of choice, but hey, the more who wake up the better we'll be
@funklemonde Actually I'm personally a vegan and have been veg since 1989. But I also recognize that vegans are such a small slice of the population that we need to find ways to make meat-eaters care. Hopefully, this video helps.
we are what we eat, is a slogan and the mental aspect of food on the mind and the cells and thus our reality. when animals are slaughtered, fear, confusion, pain, aggression emotional enzymes are shot into their cells and in turn organs, a ticking emotional bomb waiting to go off and those same enzymes, which are molecularly very similar to those found in humans go to work and what do you suppose happens to our body/thoughts. knowledge is not power its empowering.lets be empowered
While I very much appreciate the efforts and dedication of those who eat a vegan diet, it is also true that compassionate animal care does not require eliminating all animal products from your diet. Dairy and even meat (euthanizing old animals that are safe to consume, but are in arthritic pain, for example) can be farmed compassionately. We must, however, eat far less meat and reduce our dairy intake. It's about living consciously!
@funklemonde If you're raising animals specifically for slaughter, then yes, I agree. But if you're raising them for dairy, eventually those animals will get old and be living in pain. Euthanizing them humanely and harvesting their bodies for meat is a smart/humane way to satisfy those who still want meat. I'd encourage you to work with allies like myself. A hard-nosed approach will only take longer to accomplish what we both want - drastically-improved conditions for farm animals.
@jware09 Animals in dairy are not euthanized humanely, dairy cows or egg hens are sent to the exact same slaughter houses to be processed for meat, usually for dogfood or cheap fast food, because their meat is too weak and old. Besides, milk production takes the baby cows away and sends them for veal, and eggs take baby boy chicks and grinds them up alive. It's all cost effective not to be humane. Peta is trying to incorporate controlled atmosphere killing for poultry though, it's a step.
@BiohazardBunney You're exactly right. Industrial farm conditions for dairy and meat are horrific. I'm not sure what about my comments you're not understanding. What I'm suggesting is a complete and drastic overhaul of the way animals are raised for dairy production (and all but eliminating raising animals solely for meat). Raising farm animals in not just humane, but good preferable conditions is possible - and it starts with changing our mentality about what "value" is at the supermarket.
Wow. I liked Martha Stewart before and I knew her daughter was a vegetarian (she mentioned it while making a Mexican themed corn salad dish or something) but this is GREAT!!
