Excellent video. Thanks for taking the time to make it. What for of self defense, and meat procurment will you use? I'm thinking I'll have a .22lr for meat, and my .45acp for defense. In your fishing kit, will you be using bank line or just a pole?
Great videos you make. I would like to make a small suggestion to your bug out bag. One, get rid of that old 70's sleeping bag cover and get a gortex bivy cover instead. I got a brand new one on ebay for 27 dollars. Also get you four or so bungee cords. They work great with your poncho to set up a quick hootch. Keep up the good work. RLTW
@275rangerrod Yes I used the new bivy cover in the army and there great. Right now I will have to stick with the old one thats all I can afford right now.
something i just saw was from a company called GOALZERO.COM they have a small solar pannel that folds up and comes with 4 rechargable AAs and a charger that it hooks up to. i am thinking of adding this to my setup as to extend the life of my lights if it goes to the long term and it can also charge AAAs so i can keep my walkies running something to thinkabout they also have larger setups i may get as genarators are good but i think i would run out of gas before i run out of sun ;)
I like your redundant theme of a pack that you can split/share. You should consider a larger amount of toothpaste so that you could share with more people for a longer period of time. Adds minimal weight and size but adds hygiene for more people, which can be important depending on your situation.
very cool, just bought a bag this past weekend for my medical supplies, almost exactly like yours, its a tri fold grooming items bag...works perfect for medical supplies, great minds think alike haha, great vid!
as for the eletric tape.. there is a better stuff out there.. its called linerless self sealing tape...works way better and stick to its self...and make stuff 100% water proof..
The only othe rthing I can see I might add would be a space blanket or two, they are very compact-about the size of a cigerette pack, but can help retain heat if you need it. I think they are aluminzied mylar.
Your vids r great, very informative. Weather and climate are a killer. I believe that the person who does not panic, has the best chance for overcoming anything. Water, food and shelter are the number one things to take into account in any bad situation. The only use of firearms in any situation is by a person who has training in the effective use of them.
You don't need a pole to fish with you can use a two liter bottle as a float and tie fishing line to the tapered end of the bottle. It's a good means of of hiding yourself in plain site. And you don't have to stay in one place and fish. You can place those bottles in several different areas of a ponds lake or river and stay out of sight.
Great bug out bag! you got me thinking about upgrading my own now. I was wondering if you kept the good ole E-tool in there somewhere for digging if you needed. I know it adds a little more weight to the pack but can be used in a lot of situations.
It is myself, wife and child (age 12). We each have our own kit packed with what we think is important. I have one four man tent attached to my ruck, we use it when hiking. I also bought three individual shelter/tents because they were on sale. Should I scrap the big tent, or would you advise keeping it with my gear? My thought is that it is better for moral if we all sleep together, but my daughter loves her independence. If you had to choose between ammo or food which to sacrifice.thanks
honestly now an entire family each carrying a huge pack will stand out no matter what color it is, use what ever pack or color suits your needs and budget
I've actually been to cub scouts all the way up to boy scouts in my younger age for this type of reason, so I already know what gear to take, but this shows you better supply add-ons, your videos are extremely informed and enlightening, I've never learned as much in scouts back then than I am learning now from you, these are awesome videos. I watched them all, they're addicting.
This is one of your better videos. very concise; I like how you didnt explain every item like many people in a BOB video will do. I have similar items in my bag, mabey ill do a video some day. BUFFALO, NY

Another great video. Thank you. Although I don't have a BOB, I do have a GHB (Get home bag). It should get me through several days. I also use a backpack at work for nearly all of my daily work stuff. I would be able to fill that with food AND ammo (I'm armed at work). Locate a bicycle and ride the 42 miles to my GHB (parked in town) or go another route home 77 miles. This is if there are no vehicles running. Enjoy your efforts thank you.
I really like your videos. You have a ton of great information and I like the way you present them. Keep up the good work. I would like to make a suggestion to you. I am a Paramedic and I would strongly suggest you get some Quick-clot combat gauze for deep severe cuts. Please do not use the older powdered stuff as it causes severe burns. Do a Google search and go watch the video on the bottom of the demo video page. It shows it in action on a pig with a femoral artery that has been severed.
SP1: IMHO, I keep my BOB, or as I like to call it, H.A.N.K. (Haul Ass Now Kit) the same year round. I have a sleeping bag (supposedly) rated to -5 F and cold weather gear at all times. My thinking is, that even though I may be bugging out in the winter or late fall, I don't know how long I may have to survive off of my gear. Could be a cpl of hours, cld be MONTHS. I've always tried to base my preps around long term survival after a nuclear war. It's also why my BOB contains KI03, and...
@hrdknox2000 and an extra 50 rds. of .45 ACP for my Springfield XD or my 1911 Colt, if I'm down to using it. My actual bag is a bright orang Osprey brand bag that I got on sale at a local outdoors store. My thoughts were that I'd try to blend in with either refugees or college kids, even though I'm in my 30s I look young. Biggest reason, though, is that I SWORE I'd NEVER carry a Large ALICE pack again after SFAS! They are excruciatingly uncomfortable! Also, I agree you need to update your chow!
@hrdknox2000 I made sure to update my chow from wetpack MREs to only the dry items and then I have Mtn. House Pro-Pak meals. I made "pocket meals" out of dry snack items out of MREs and individually wrapped them in plastic wrap. They fit beautifully in a BDU pocket. I made sure to pack something other than SOS bars or something like that because, the way I figure it, I'm less likely to make a tactically stupid mistake, which cld be fatal, if my belly's full and I enjoy what I'm eating.
@hrdknox2000 Maybe I'll do a video response for you...Idunno. I've never posted a video on here before. I'm a litle concerned about OPSEC. AND I'm a really private person. Thanks for all YOU'VE done here, though!
why the 12G flare pistol you can't fire anything but flare shot out of this plastic pistol!! Why not buy a 26.5 flare pistol and a .22 cal insert? Will not cost you more than 100$ for both pieces. 26.5 flares for your pistol are easy to find online and at your local weapons show. .22 cal is very cheap 550rds for 22$ at WAL MART
@scubasteve6100 I'm interested in your idea. I'm fairly new to guns in general so excuse my ignorance but are you saying an "insert" into a specific type of flare gun will let me shoot .22LR?
I would like to have that double duty option. Can you please give me more info and specific brands and places to buy?
@32937isready I dont keep my gun in my bug out bag. I have a small bag that I have already dont a video on so if I leave my bag out and it gets stolen a firearm doesnt end in the wrong hands. Or my pistol is on my side.
Wow, this is a refreshing video. If I were to believe 95% of all the other BOB videos on Youtube, I would need a Maxpedition pack loaded with Maxpedition accessories. Not to mention several hundreds of dollars worth of knives and flashlights. Thanks for the video.
@hillbillyclimber He could use fishing line from his tackle box or gut 550 cord and use the inner strands. You can keep weight down by trying to pack only items that have multiple uses. I.E. extra socks could sustitute as extra gloves or used for filtering water before boiling. =)
I've found the MRE heater packs to work great for heating things quickly on the fly, and you pick them up cheap on-line in packs of 12 or 24. Never really cared for most MRE meals while in the military but some were not bad and I have some in my hunting pack.
not a big deal but. I would buy Bic lighters :D they are much more durable and long lasting then those dollar store lighters ya got there. hehe . anyway cheers great work on all your videos i like them. subed
@natezgreat4222 I have heard that the gum in the kit with the MRE's is a laxative but I don't know personally. I have eaten many a MRE, but never chanced the gum. Would be nice to hear from someone that knows for sure.
I am confused, what are you preparing for? Why would I need a bug out bag? I am not a secret agent and I am not wanted by the authorities. Why do you need all of this?
@joesmoke69 Even the federal government says to have a bug out bag. Everything you need to survive a natural disaster. I like to be able to provide what I need for my family so I dont have to rely on others plus there might be limited amount of emergency supplies so if I dont need help more for others that dont have anything.
you have a great bag I found some of my personal bag's weaknesses, however what about weapons I'm assuming that you carry a handgun but Its probably not a bad idea to keep an extra weapon or just to have extra ammo. Otherwise you seem to be set for whatever comes next.
I kinda skipped through the video a bit so forgive me if I've missed this, but do you carry a firearm in or with your bugout bag? I see a lot of people carry anything from small pistols(.38, 380, .25, etc..) to large assult/hunting rifles(ar15, ak47, m14, etc..)
Fantastic kit!!! You are very well prepared. I'd roll with you anytime, anywhere brother. Keep up the great work. Be good, stay safe, and may God bless.
No hand crack flashlights? Gun? Walkies? Baby butt wipes? Loud whistles? Cash? The GERBER multi tool is great. The poncho? GREAT! I LOVE that you planned this with FAMILY and extra person in mind. So Many people are SOLO [ dont care for anyone but themselves ] planners. GOD BLESS! Great video. [[ watch the history channel show AFTER ARMAGEDDON, its got great info on AFTER a disaster ]]
2southernprepper1You have a pretty good bug out bag, I would be concerned about the wieght though try to go for the lightest possible equipment you can get. You say you have kids, I hope you have taught them skills as well and try using the equipment before you need it to be familiar with it. I would like to share ideas with others and just because it's the lastest thing on the market, doesn't mean it's the best when buying it
@beactivelife, you call me a tool, hmm don't be a fool, I'm not trying to put him down, but share knowledge, something you seem to be missing, I have lived this lifestyle since I was 14, you didn't amount to a cheap bottle of wine and a gleam in an eye then. If any that are serious and really want knowledge we share, I have forgotten more about it than you will ever know. Are you really saying you have to have a video to know something, that shows ignorance in it's self.
WOW, I could live for a LONGTME with all that! I see no char cloth for the flint and steel. PEOPLE, IF YOUR REALLY PLANING ON USING THIS STUFF, PRATICE WITH IT BEFORE YOU NEED IT!!!!!
@trickykwoo2 I dont need char cloth when I have a magnesium bar pictured there and vasoline 4x4s in my first aid kit. I have a wife and 2 kids so if they dont have theirs I can share and its really not that much stuff. Compared that with a 100 pound ruck I used to carry its a walk in the park with this pack.
Awesome....see if you can score a flare pen instead of the gun.Id throw in some trail marking tape, duct tape, rat traps, snare wire,yo yo reels.I stuff cotton balls in the TP tubes.
Thanks for the video. It's easily doable to have a 14 - 30 day BOB and for it still to be light enough. I've found that my BOB even with 30 freeze dried meals (ration of 1 a day in an emergency) along with all my other stuff weighs about 10-15kg in total. The Fiskars gardening trowel is also a fantastic little tough and cheap item for catholes. Hand sanitiser is another useful item..
@gregvance If a male consumes less than 1,200 calories per day for more than about 3 days, the body's metabolism slows down as it goes into 'starvation mode'. You can go below the 1,200 cal threshold for say 2 days and resume an intake higher than 1,200 and avoid this. A 15kg pack is light and maybe possible in warmer weather. Carry at least 4 liters of water, and sufficient gear as shelter as the need for shelter and fire is only behind water, the food is the next concern.
@InTheSticks0001 Thanks for that info. Think I'll buy more food to get the 1200 calories per day.. I haven't planned to carry much water but have plenty of puritabs and a filter, I may get a steripen too. Also have a 2 man popup tent that weighs 2kg..these tents are pretty cheap for what they are but a great portable shelter!..
@gregvance I will always carry 2 quarts and be looking for 2 or more quarts of water to carry at all times. Shelter then water is more important than food. Water is good weight. You can be in a spot where you will not have access for days. A straw type filter or rubber hose can suck water from puddles and small tight places. Take a look at silnylon hammocks, such as DD Hammocks, Jungle Hammocks, ENO etc. One can then bed down in impossible places. A G.I. bivy sack is also good
@gregvance Get some training here on YouTube. A little knowledge can save your life. If you learn only one thing, it should be all about how to make fire. Fire and shelter are closely related. To me Fire is more important as it cures hypothermia, and purifies water. Learn from the survivalist and bushcraft pro's. Wildernessoutfitters, Ray Mears and others.
@InTheSticks0001 Thanks for the tips. Now you say it it does make sense to carry at least some water.. I have been considering the GI bivy as an extra backup. One great thing I bought that I totally recommend to anyone is this pocket sized SAS survival book by John Wiseman I bought as part of my survival/ first aid kit which has about 300 pages of all kinds of survival info. It can cost very little bought on Amazon. (Cost me £3.80 incl postage) I have already used it to build a temporary shelter
@gregvance The SAS survival book is 'classic' and good reference especially if one does not have the time to learn it prior to needing it.. I would put my focus on building fires in the rain with only a knife. Especially where is rains a lot, the USGI bivy bag can give you the extra stealth to camp anywhere. Look up The Silver Fox on YT. He is also in GB and can show you what it takes to make it there. Consider a 'dry bag' to keep clothing dry and carry gallons of water to camp.
May I suggest 2 compasses instead of just one. Reason #1: if you don't trust the one compass, you can lay both of them side by side and compare. Reason#2: like all your other gear if you split it then both parties have a compass. RLTW
@RockyMountainPrepper I have never tried the non military kind so I cant help you. Guns shows you can buy real MREs for $5 each or $50 a case (12 meals). Sorry cant give you any info.
@RockyMountainPrepper I'd go mostly freeze dried, and an MRE if cooking isn't possible. MRE's are very heavy. In winter calories from fats and oils should be 40% of intake. 1 pound of olive oil provides 4000 calories, that's a compact source of long burning fuel. Go to The Freeze Dried Guy and look for his section on how to pack your BOB. My winter pack contains 14,500 calories, maybe 7-10 days @ -20F yet only weighs 60lbs. That's lean and mean and I would loose weight.
@InTheSticks0001 I have 30 800kal freeze dried meals as a ration of 1 a day for 30 days in an emergency..I'm no expert on survival though so maybe that wouldn't be enough?..
Very informative! Why do you have a poncho, sleeping bag cover and a military poncho? The military poncho replaces all three. Just trying to save you some weight.
Bro i can tell your not a smoker.lol get rid of those cheap lighter and get bic lighters..Any smoker will tell you those lighters don't last long about half or less than a bic lighter and only a few cents more.
i like your BOB. better than alot of those who posts here in youtube. yours is very practical and simple. you can tell alot about a person from this. great job. i do hope alot of people gets into this idea back here in the philippines. my country is prone to so much disasters and war.
hey u, this ,might seem dumb but im an 11 year old prepper and i have a large "knife arsenal" and my friend is a prepper too but he has a large gunssupply...does any1 think they know when i should get my parents to purchase a gun for me?
@EpixKidGamer00 Well first off you should show your parents that you can be trusted with one, and are responsible around them, if your dad owns a gun, ask to go to the range with him, and take turns firing it, ask him for pointers on how to fire/load/clean etc, if you would show your Dad and mom that you are skilled in handling a firearm they just may buy you one.
You know... it's kinda just sad... all to often people who who are about WROL, SHTF, preppers, always suggest you buy at Walmart..... the very cause of their countries demise....
@traderjoes 12ga flare pistol will fail firing 12 gauge ammo, not immediately it's rolling the dice. Many of them won't take a 2 3/4" shell without modification. Augila shorts mediate both issues, and of course using 12 ga non flare ammo in a flare pistol would change it's status as a weapon under BATFE regulation.
you have all these videos on what to buy and store ans stuff but what about if you had to just live off of nothing? where could we get resupplied in all the chaos?
One thing everyone should keep in mind is that prepping is a lifestyle or more so a mind set. If you have a bug out bag you need to have a clear destination. A bug out bag will not make you survivor man when a flood or earthquake hits your region, it is mearly ment to sustain you on your travels to a safe location. Imagine all of the folks in japan who went several days without food after the quake. A bug out bag would have served them well on their way to red cross shelters.
Hey David, you are making really good videos and i both enjoy wathing them and also learn things, so thats great. I have a question for ya, and thats regarding knives.. Is that gerber knife you showing a folding knife? And is that all you carrying?
Will you be carrying a knife in your belt if SHTF or will you carry one in your bag?
And what knife do you consider your main knife? Brand? Model?
I carry my Scriptures and bible on my iPhone and never thought about it till now. The batteries run now. I have now put my military bible pack in my bag. Found a purpose for it. Thanks for the video. Have a great day.
SP, I watched this vid 2 or 3 times in the past, but I just noticed your Bible is camo. Can you tell me where I might be able to purchase one? thanks, Ken
@ken18328 I got it when I was in the army. I didnt buy it so I dont know where you could get one. Probably find the local Gideons in your area and they could give you one just like it.
big bag but should choose smaller and lighter gear.

You might want to think about a magnifying glass, unlimited fire for when you run out of lighter fuel, matches, and flint.

Also, I agree you need to update your chow!
hrdknox2000 1 month ago
@hrdknox2000 I made sure to update my chow from wetpack MREs to only the dry items and then I have Mtn. House Pro-Pak meals. I made "pocket meals" out of dry snack items out of MREs and individually wrapped them in plastic wrap. They fit beautifully in a BDU pocket. I made sure to pack something other than SOS bars or something like that because, the way I figure it, I'm less likely to make a tactically stupid mistake, which cld be fatal, if my belly's full and I enjoy what I'm eating.

why the 12G flare pistol you can't fire anything but flare shot out of this plastic pistol!!

@hillbillyclimber He could use fishing line from his tackle box or gut 550 cord and use the inner strands. You can keep weight down by trying to pack only items that have multiple uses. I.E. extra socks could sustitute as extra gloves or used for filtering water before boiling. =)

I've found the MRE heater packs to work great for heating things quickly on the fly, and you pick them up cheap on-line in packs of 12 or 24. Never really cared for most MRE meals while in the military but some were not bad and I have some in my hunting pack.

@joesmoke69 Even the federal government says to have a bug out bag. Everything you need to survive a natural disaster. I like to be able to provide what I need for my family so I dont have to rely on others plus there might be limited amount of emergency supplies so if I dont need help more for others that dont have anything.

You say you have kids, I hope you have taught them skills as well and try using the equipment before you need it to be familiar with it. I would like to share ideas with others and just because it's the lastest thing on the market, doesn't mean it's the best when buying it

Hand sanitiser is another useful item..
gregvance 2 months ago
@gregvance If a male consumes less than 1,200 calories per day for more than about 3 days, the body's metabolism slows down as it goes into 'starvation mode'. You can go below the 1,200 cal threshold for say 2 days and resume an intake higher than 1,200 and avoid this. A 15kg pack is light and maybe possible in warmer weather. Carry at least 4 liters of water, and sufficient gear as shelter as the need for shelter and fire is only behind water, the food is the next concern.
InTheSticks0001 2 months ago
@InTheSticks0001 Thanks for that info. Think I'll buy more food to get the 1200 calories per day.. I haven't planned to carry much water but have plenty of puritabs and a filter, I may get a steripen too. Also have a 2 man popup tent that weighs 2kg..these tents are pretty cheap for what they are but a great portable shelter!..
gregvance 2 months ago
@gregvance I will always carry 2 quarts and be looking for 2 or more quarts of water to carry at all times. Shelter then water is more important than food. Water is good weight. You can be in a spot where you will not have access for days. A straw type filter or rubber hose can suck water from puddles and small tight places. Take a look at silnylon hammocks, such as DD Hammocks, Jungle Hammocks, ENO etc. One can then bed down in impossible places. A G.I. bivy sack is also good
InTheSticks0001 2 months ago
@gregvance Get some training here on YouTube. A little knowledge can save your life. If you learn only one thing, it should be all about how to make fire. Fire and shelter are closely related. To me Fire is more important as it cures hypothermia, and purifies water. Learn from the survivalist and bushcraft pro's. Wildernessoutfitters, Ray Mears and others.
InTheSticks0001 2 months ago
@InTheSticks0001 Thanks for the tips. Now you say it it does make sense to carry at least some water.. I have been considering the GI bivy as an extra backup. One great thing I bought that I totally recommend to anyone is this pocket sized SAS survival book by John Wiseman I bought as part of my survival/ first aid kit which has about 300 pages of all kinds of survival info. It can cost very little bought on Amazon. (Cost me £3.80 incl postage) I have already used it to build a temporary shelter
gregvance 2 months ago
@gregvance The SAS survival book is 'classic' and good reference especially if one does not have the time to learn it prior to needing it.. I would put my focus on building fires in the rain with only a knife. Especially where is rains a lot, the USGI bivy bag can give you the extra stealth to camp anywhere. Look up The Silver Fox on YT. He is also in GB and can show you what it takes to make it there. Consider a 'dry bag' to keep clothing dry and carry gallons of water to camp.

southernprepper1 2 months ago
@RockyMountainPrepper They're all the same, just stay away from cheap ones. You get what you pay for ;)
AllieXii 2 months ago
@RockyMountainPrepper I'd go mostly freeze dried, and an MRE if cooking isn't possible. MRE's are very heavy. In winter calories from fats and oils should be 40% of intake. 1 pound of olive oil provides 4000 calories, that's a compact source of long burning fuel. Go to The Freeze Dried Guy and look for his section on how to pack your BOB. My winter pack contains 14,500 calories, maybe 7-10 days @ -20F yet only weighs 60lbs. That's lean and mean and I would loose weight.
InTheSticks0001 2 months ago
@InTheSticks0001 I have 30 800kal freeze dried meals as a ration of 1 a day for 30 days in an emergency..I'm no expert on survival though so maybe that wouldn't be enough?..

EpixKidGamer00 5 months ago
@EpixKidGamer00 Well first off you should show your parents that you can be trusted with one, and are responsible around them, if your dad owns a gun, ask to go to the range with him, and take turns firing it, ask him for pointers on how to fire/load/clean etc, if you would show your Dad and mom that you are skilled in handling a firearm they just may buy you one.

This may be an insane question, but can a 12 ga flare gun fire 12 ga ammo? I know its not meant to, but Im just curious if its possible. Thanks
traderjoes 6 months ago
@traderjoes 12ga flare pistol will fail firing 12 gauge ammo, not immediately it's rolling the dice. Many of them won't take a 2 3/4" shell without modification. Augila shorts mediate both issues, and of course using 12 ga non flare ammo in a flare pistol would change it's status as a weapon under BATFE regulation.
