@obastan yes, louis prima was from new orleans and often cited louis armstrong as a influnce. just listening to louis prima sing you can clearly hear him emulate the growling voice that satchmo sang with and scatted with.

Well, that is certainly a great rendition, probably the best, but he is not the original artist. the song goes back to the '30s and both Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong recorded it in 1931....and they may not be the first.

Louis with Keely and Sam Butera and the Witnesses had to be about the most swingin' show in Las Vegas. I play drums for a guy in New York and we do a lot of Louis's arrangements. Great stuff and gives me a chance to show off my shuffle on drums...

I don't know if Lois Prima is the original to do it, or not, but his version was so lame. David Lee Roth put the style in it. This was just wierd, the girl looked unenthused and he looked like he was embarrassed when he looked at her, because he stopped dancing.

Yes his version is the original. He is also the original artist of the BRIAN SETZER song , "JUMP JIVE AND WAIL". Sonny and Cher copied their act , and numerous artists , like David Lee Roth , have copied his tunes. They were a Las Vegas sensation for many years.
