I have the PS3 that has a new startup which is under firmware 3.0 with a new logo on the screen. This startup screen works great on both the new PS3 slim and the original PS3 with the old logo on the side.

This is not a rock solid firmware update. Some people have very short game freezes for like 1 second a couple times. And why in the world take away the game start up chime what was the reason for that. For games to start faster that 1 second B*LLshit. Bad move Sony...Period

Actually it was something of a marketing ploy, they already displayed the PS3 logo when you boot up the system, and once again when you load the game, unlike the PSX and PS2 which showed sony, and the second boot was the PS logo. They chose to remove the second PS3 boot chime due to it being somewhat arrogant, rather placing a new, less boastful intro to the system without you being told you're playing a Playstation 3 TWICE. It wasn't about cutting down boot time.

I read somewhere that some Sony exec had said it wasn't for the boot time that they'd removed the second boot screen but to make the PS3 less pretentious. Not gonna look for it, though, but it seems a lot more plausible, most of the time the guys giving interviews have no clue what they're saying or just make something up to shut everyone up. I rather liked the 3.0 update, not the balls to the wall fantastic they had promised but I hadn't any hopes for it to begin with and was pleased all around

I think you will find it does not show the playstation 3 pop-up anymore as that is no longer the official name to call it by...it is now called PS3 in that font and style when you start up the playstation.

Also there were a few bugs before such as the time being blocked off when you were in a game. They've also decreased the loading time for trophies to show.

Damn i don't get it, why does sony always have to change something that is good and were you're used to, into something that is worse. The same for if you starting a game; the PS3 spiderman logo is gone and is replaced for....nothing!!! Why? Because the games didn't start fast enough what a bullshit. Then at least give the ps3 owner a choice wether to have it or not in the system settings or something. A small but bad move from sony in my opnion.

The opening orchestra sound is the exact same as the current PS3's opening so stop being paranoid. The only thing that I dislike is that the Logo shows up at the start instead of it saying 'Sony Computer Entertainment' which is how it's always been.

Even when you boot up a game you're greeted with a black screen and then go straight in to the game which gives me the feeling that the opening and the game boot up screens are just temporary & will be changed with an update.

The new logo means Sony's going back to their roots and the Spider man font had nothing to do with the PlayStation brand whereas this new logo does because it's an updated version of the PS2 logo. The PS3 in it's current looks more like a media device rather then a games console so I'm glad the new design makes it look more friendly and like a home console.

Why do you think Sony's making this change because the console didn't even look & feel like a console and it would've failed.

I'm in the USA pal and I bought my SLIM on the 25th of August at Bestbuy. Had to exchange it the next day cause it burned up my HDMI cable and SONY advised I exchange it. The US slim shipped with 2.76, because of the outsold ps3's.

But the UK slims are NOT allowed to be sold earlier than the set release (1st september). Sony has strictly said no to the early release in the UK, as they have the 3.0 firmware pre-installed.
