the best instruments in the universe were made here until the downhill slide starting in the late 60s...absolute magic for a mass produced instrument in guitars , mandolins banjos ,ukes , solid & jazz electrics
When I was a kid, we used to dump pick at the Cork st. land fill. Gibson used to dump their reject part there and we culled the parts and assembled into playable guitars. Had a flying V and Les Paul when I was just a kid. Oh, to have that stuff again!!!
it is still there, drove by it today, new paint and looks relatively good, smoke stack still there, the Gibson on the stack is not as vivid and clear, Heritage Guitars sign on the front door.
where is (or was) that building in Kalamazoo, i cant seem to find the address. i grew up in Portage next to Kalamazoo and knew of it. it closed when i was young. i kind of want to see if it is still there???
God, no wonder Gibson moved to Nasville...this factory is crumbling away. Sad, so sad. I played an older Les paul and a Heritage H-150 yesterday and the Heritage beat the Gibson hands down. Sounded absolutely amazing.
@mikebecker330 Actually, Gibson's building of the Nashville plant and subsequent cease of opoerations in Kalamazoo had nothing to do with the structural integrity of the building....was all about getting out from under the Union, as all Gibson employees were unionized at that time. I have yet to lay hands on a Heritage myself, but from what I've seen/heard, that day can't come soon enough(2 kids left to graduate, then it's ON, LOL).
Great video. I played an old Heritage 535 two days ago. I was taken aback by the build quality. I want one very badly. I have to save some money first. But I have to say hands down the Heritage 535 was the best 335 I have ever played.
yep, heritage guitars, they closed but came back on line. guys getting up there in years. who's to say how long it will stay open. need to train new guys. lot of history in this building.
