It is pretty well understood that I am one of Jessye's greatest admirers, with that said I've noticed in the early and middle parts of her career I wished so very badly that Jessye wouldn't restrain herself so much, I hear and see her conviction and this is a phenomenal performance, but I think if she had let herself go just a bit more it would have been as profound as her "deep river".

As a born again Christian, this song speaks to me so much. What more do we need that Jesus?!! I remember hearing Ms. Norman sing this song about 16 years ago...I believe it may have been the same performance. May God bless you Ms. Norman. Your voice has brought so much joy.
