This is usually the result of the ferret being weaned too quickly as a kit. I have a ferret, Scooby, who used to grab onto my other ferret Koda's ear and not let go, but fortunately he dropped the habit as he matured.

yeah, my husband bought a ferret with no manners, did this to my hands several times, there was nothing that would make it let go. :( Now the tip of my thumb is numb permanently. Any tips for when this happens?

Rofl, mine did this with my finger AND my hair when I first bought her. The first time she latched onto my finger I had to open the combination lock on the cage door with one hand to get her off. xDDD

Na, ferrets are very easy to teach to stop nipping and grabbing when they are little. Ours has never actually bitten anything other than his food and what "trinkets" he likes to steal (especially raw red potatoes :P) This little one has found a way to "play" while not harming his buddy, but this should be nipped in the bud before it is too old to know that it could actually hurt someone with it's sharp little teeth :)

@malandra68 This ferret is actually very different from most ferrets. He was quarantined for over 7 monthes. It took two years to retrain him. Hes still not perfect, but hes my special boy! You misunderstood my question; I was wondering if anyone else had ferrets with that kind of tenacity. He grabs things and holds on for dear life! Lol! Hes different than any other of my 9 others!

@JC021963 And as for "easy to train...", Thats a bit of an misnomer. Since ferrets are so intelligent, and every one is unique, some just wont train as easy as others. And some of those "normal" techniques are actually counter productive (I.E. Scruffing and ear nipping)

I've got to ask; is this tenacity unusual in ferrets? Lili is by far my most tenacious, but some of the others are pretty "grabby" too. The one in the cage at the foot of my couch likes to remove my socks after a long day of construction work... Lmao! All 10 are so very special .

THIS IS MY FERRET, LILI!!!

We got "her" after a 7+ Month Prolapse quarantine because of a sever biting problem! In fact, we named "her" Leliana, because Jason told us the ferret was a girl. Apparently HE was that unhandleable! He is utterly amazing now! We love your videos! We spotted many of our 10 ferrets in them, which is amazing since quite a few we got as full grown from Pruess, always because they needed a special home. Your video's have let us see them as babies, THANK YOU!!!
