I travelled the journey from Hannover to Hamburg the previous 4 days on this train. Always sat around the middle of train. Still remember some of the train staff, often wondered if they survived. God bless all involved in this tragedy.

@Rabakabs daswar keine beleidigung, ich bin in Deutscland aufgewachsen, eines was mir gefiel, war das Deutsche immer versuchen alles perfekt zu machen. In diesem fall, diese 1 minute koennte der unterschied zwischen tod und leben sein.. manchmal muss man einfach selbst handeln.. Ich entschuldige mich bei dir, es war nicht das richtige wort. @moonrider67 Einer seits hast du recht, immer Perfekt sein das geht nicht, Fehler sind immer und irdendwo dabei das gehört dazu Unfälle passieren auch in Deutschland viel z. B. Autounfall passiert in durchschnitt jeden Tag Zugunfälle höchsten ein oder zwei mal im Jahr aber eine Katastrophe Unfall passiert alle Fünf bis Zehn Jahre. Deine Entschuldigung nehme ich gerne an. Ich habe nur dein Satzaufbau nicht so richtig verstanden.

@Rabakabs Ich bin ein Fan der Eisenbahn, ich wohnte in Dachau, neben den Schienen.. leider ist die Eisenbahn hier ein Mist.. so werden die meisten Transporte per LKW gefahren, die Strassen sind sowieso ueberlastet. das resultat, im durchschnitt 12 tote und 80 schwerverletzte die woche,, Ein paar korrupte Beamten, ein Minister... Millionen Euro weg.. eine Schande..

101 lives would not have been lost if only the conductor had applied the emergency brakes when the guy told him what had happened in carriage one. I realise it's easy to sit here and make comments with the benefit of hindsight, but something was seriously wrong with Deutsche Bahn's safety culture. Good episode, although they do pad this show out with the same graphics over and over to fill the show, that's one thing I never did like about seconds from disaster.

And this commentator is terrible. The British one is much better (the first one that is)

It is easy to criticize people for having not pulled the emergency brake etc. from the comfort of our chairs looking backwards to the facts. However, people in that train didn't realize the danger. At high-speed trains, it would be highly unsafe to allow passengers, alone, to pull emergency brakes.

@lotwyo although the designers would have set the brake to not flip the train head over heals, more of a slow slowing and stopping, the traditional German culture would follow regulations and have the problem investigated before unduly stopping the train and causing delay.

@lotwyo According to regulations all trains must have emergency switches in the passenger compartments, additionally they embed intercom. These switches either activate the emergency brakes directly or are just alarming the driver. Having a metal bar sliced just near your seat, what else your waiting for to pull the alarm? If that dumb man had pulled the alarm he would probably attract the attention of the driver making him reduce speed or stop the train or check out what was going on.

Play some other Stereo audio file using some software and use the Balance feature to determine whether your speaker configuration is correct. When you drag the Balance slider to your right, only your right speaker should sound and vice versa.

@0x56 Good question. I believe this was recorded on a MONO VCR... so, it will depend on your pc - turn it to MONO, too (instead of stereo, of course). Otherwise you can only hear the sound coming from the right channel.

As far as I know, ICE trains dont have emergency cords that passengers can pull. Thats why the guy went looking for the ticket guy, to get him to stop the train.
