    But a weak athlete who squats 100 pounds max could generate 85 pounds of force in point two will not get him up.

    Say you have 25 inches vertical with 200 pounds max squat.

    Then you're able to squat 400 pounds max.

    Speed stays the same but the force is twice.

    You're vertical HAS to increase dramatically!

  • lol.. high jumpers (which he is -- and i suppose hurdlers too) train quick twitching muscles in the leg, especially the calf. landing is basically as smooth as a take off "in reverse" so to speak. when quick twitch muscles are trained, you can lessen the impact.

  • The purpose of regular hurdles which are only 42" high for men and 33" high for women, are to clear the hurdles with the least amount of clearance without knocking them over so the hurdler can maintain his fast pace, but on the ultra high hurdles, the purpose is to jump as high as possible so the hurdler can develop a good one legged jump (the Fosbury flop) for the high jump competition.
