  • GREAT SONG

  • I'm a Metal head and I love this song Great guitars and I hate when people say that this is only for rednecks fuck that Rock n Roll for All!!!

  • This is the music Im growing up with rigth now.

Im 15, i live in northern finland, same parallel of latitude as GREENLAND.

It can snow over 60cm snow in one nigth and can be under -40ºC degrees at wintertime...

My dad has a '69 Oldsmobile with 454cid chevy big block...we are maybe the oddest family in our village..XD

Iv seen skynyrd once live, it was 09 i guess, it was fking cool and legendary!

  • This is the music I grew up with

  • Wow! They sound just as great live as they do in a professional studio version. I'm only 17, but I only listen to this stuff.

  • was this song based on a real life event with Ronnie? i.e did a man really pull a gun on him while he was with that guys girl?

  • @joebester yep...it happenned at a place called the ' little brown jug' which is now a general store

  • @joebester Yes it was

  • @joebester Ditto man, Classic Rock

  • Guy at 1:29 is really really really high...

  • Zakk Wylde drumming?

  • Fooking awsome!!

  • Is this the day the blew Jager and the boys out into the parking lot?

  • @budboy1988 yep, sure was!

  • Explorer, Les Paul and Strat on the same stage

  • LONG HAIR FTW

  • this is my favorite skynyrd song

  • Fantastic. Thank you for putting this back up on site, cos I was having trouble getting it to play from my favourites list . Now I can re-introduce it . You can't beat the original . No offence to the band who tried to keep their memory alive .

  • ",,,,I was headed out to'rd the door...."

  • no theyre ALL BAD ASSES and lynyrd skynyrd was waay to good for england

  • allen was a bad ass-hes the man in red

  • Which one is Allen Collins please?

  • @jarileigh the man in red

  • I just Love this song

  • Unfortunately, I'm only 16 so I can only dream of seeing the original band together. Honestly I love the old band, but since I never had a chance to see them all I really got to know was Billy, Leon, and Gary from the original line up! Thats why I am so grateful they still play, if it all would have ended with the crash I may not have been able to really know anything about the band<3 oh I just love them.

  • right after the intro i went around backstage ... ok time to snort

  • this video proves jesus was a great drummer for this band.

  • 33 years tomorrow RIP Ronnie Van Zant

  • This song is so fucking awesome, because what he is saying in the song. Actually happened to him, when he was leaving the bar he wrote the song.

  • One of my favorite songs......Although I was just barely hatched when it hit the airwaves. Love the red pants and the funky hat.

  • That whistle always used to make me look. around like who's calling, lol

  • Such a great and incredibly underrated band, wish I was alive to witness the original band.

  • first concert i ever seen

  • @guitarGUNFIGHTxxx

Cane never get enough Gary -- he makes that axe cry. Love him!

  • PHENOMENAL!

  • one of very few bands that was better live than recorded.

  • I Love them and the band is great

  • where to start...Steve Gaines at his beginning with skynyrd...best guitar player ever...just think if that plane would of had gas

  • @ezbaseball97 I love the grim on Steve's face during the intro. We should all be so lucky as to have that much fun at our jobs. He's having a blast, living a dream and he's not even playing yet!

  • Any musicians planing on starting a band out there?? Take note from the masters...

  • This band ROCKS!!!!! My brother can play all of their songs to a tee. He is an AWESOME guitar player and self taught at the age of about 8 years old.

  • Gotta Love Free Bird, but this is def a close second. Great lyrics.

  • Wasn't a DC-3. It was a Convair 240, a different brand of twin engine prop job.

  • @Dukabor i'm very sorry for your lose

  • I like it to much, Lynyrd is the best south band..

  • @Juniorexinlive listen to some allman brothers

  • I love Leon's face... He just like an angel :)

  • God D@mn that DC-3 they were flying in. Couldn't their agent have gotten them a better plane...?

  • @0289XYZ The plane they were in ran out of fuel just outside of McComb, Mississippi. That can be attributed to human error. Not the plane's fault or the agent's fault

  • @MultiBaldEagle Thanks. I did not know that. Lots of DC-3 are still flying.

  • i seen them last summer at a army base, how cool, they still rock, and my son sgt joshua morrison we had blast,

  • Yeah and if you get one of their dvd's (can't remember which one) Johnny and Donny were talking about this cause they were with him when it happened, in a little red mustng to boot

  • @gawnfishin2day

    freebird the movie literally.

  • wish we could play this good! The cover we posted of this doesn't even compare.

  • lynyrd skynyrd is the ultimate southern rock band, they still rock today

  • too bad they're dead

  • @mrmusic5347 blew the Stones off the stage that day..according to Mick....

  • wow....lynyrd skynyrd is awesome...most of their tunes were about real life occurrences....truly music from the heart......

  • dude i was playing my guitar at around 2:30am-3:30 am . and dude i know this sounds outragously stupid but . i have a gibson explorer aswell and i was playing allens part. and for some reason my soda knocked off my desk onto my amp and fried it and my nose started to bleed. which it never does. yeah creepy man songs from the 70s are dangerous to play

  • 1:13

    |Y|

  • 4.5 stars. give me a fucking break - they're kickin' ass doing their own song!

  • ... makes kid rock sound like a girl scout.

  • I was there, the Stones were late but it did'nt matter, Lynyrd Skynyrd blew them off the stage!!

  • don't lie

  • @bsyd100 no kiddng man

  • OMG, yes it was an amazing concert, 10cc, hot tuna and some other I can't remember now where there. I feel extremely lucky to have seen Lynyrd Skynyrd.

  • omg lol the guy at 1:29 is completely wasted

  • Garys not the only one left..theres Gary and Artimus Pyle the drummer.Which was very good freinds with Ronnie Artimus was the one who woke everyone up when the plane was going down he told me thw whole story ikno him very well. He plays with my uncles band its a Skynard tribute band named "Crawdaddy"

  • yep..I'm wrong on that...great to hear Artimus is still playing...and with your Uncles band?...great!!

  • I wonder if any of those people remember this concert, most look pretty wasted

  • Lynrd Skynrd is the best band ever EVER it came from when america was in her prime all of today's rap and hip hop crap has no soul to it it has no meaning ever skynrd song has a understandable meaning to it GOD BLESS THE SOUTH NUFF SAID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • man, this really shows you what kind'f a man allen was. he sits back and gives gary his solos when we all know the face-melting solos he's capable of. true class right there

  • @PooPoo2U What about Steve Gaines? He's probably the best guitarist up there.. you don't see him steppin on any toes... where did all the musicians etiquette go?

  • @kev3SG: i'll give gaines his due, but better than allen collins? no. that's simply blasphemous.

  • @PooPoo2U Hmmm.. none the less, that line up of musicians on that stage on that moment is great.

  • @PooPoo2U They all worked so well together. Gary is pretty badass too gotta give him props!

  • @AndreaMae16: As the son of a former skynyrd roadie (essentially slang for party friend), this is the foundation of the soundtrack to my childhood, and I cuss my father regularly that he got to see them so many times and yet, most likely, couldn't tell you how he even got to the shows.

I suppose it's just human nature to pick a favorite but Allen Collins was my hero growing up. Quietest and most modest man born but when he picks up a guitar he lets it all out.

  • @PooPoo2U That was the great thing about Steve, Allen and Gary, they all shared the stage and played off each other so well. I was lucky enough to see them live. They were so much more incredible in person. There's just no way to convey that raw, live stage energy over youtube, but it's still great to watch.

  • @PooPoo2U

Whenever I look at Allen, I always get really sad because of what happened to him. But the weird thing is that I hated LS for years, but I am a huge fan of them now (the past six months or so). When I was in school, I bought an Explorer that was exactly like Allen's minus the whammy bar (mine has a Tune-o-Matic bridge). I did not consciously do that at the time to emulate him because, as I said, I hated LS then. But now I am extremely proud of it and I named him Allen.

  • @NeilFraudstrong: a few years ago they came out with the allen collins explorer. i've never been anything on "signature model" guitars (les pauls aside), but i had to have that guitar. I sold my guitars, my amp, everything i could. i mowed yards and got a side job. I scrapped everything I owned because I had to have that guitar.

Long story short, I finally got it. That guitar is my child. If my fiancee told me to choose, she'd be sent packing. It is my own working shrine to Allen.

  • @PooPoo2U

Mine was not an Allen Collins signature. Mine was the 1957 Korina reissue that they made. It's very close to Allen's Explorer in design and sound. It's almost exactly like his minus the whammy bar. But I did know about the Allen Collins signature.

  • Check OUT the dude at 1:30

  • totally stoned lol

  • as am i

  • hahahahaha

  • I'd say he's had one to many....*LLLLLL*

  • There hasn't been a Skynyrd since the acoustical reunion performance at the Chalie Daniels Jam. Even Rossington can't help them. They are just riding on Skynyrds fame. They suck without Allen, Ronny, Leon and Billy. R.I.P. Freebirds!

  • and now Gary is the only one left....sad...

  • the boys having so much fun....that's what it's all about...nothing to lose...warming up for the Stones...just kick ass and play your asses off.....damn they were good...

  • It's "Herefordshire", not "Hertfordshire".

  • god damn this is sweet

  • Allan Collins was a little spider monkey, god love him. that HAIR..whoooo.

And I never get tired of seein ol' Steve head boppin...and that grin of his. lol. they are treasures..we are so lucky to have this, thanks for posting...can watch it a billion times, and it makes me laugh, and dance all at the same time.

    and well missed.

  • RIP Billy Powell!!! The BEST dam honky tonk piano player ever!!! FLY ON Brother!!

  • AME IN TO THAT

  • lynyrd skynyrd was one of the best/most origanal bands of there time, amazing on solos and lyric work, i wouldnt see them in this day in age as its not the origanals, since allen collins, ronnie vanzant, steve gains ,and leon wilkensin are passed away, they arent as great as they once was. but they were greatest ever, even there lessknown songs like "made in the shade" or "i need you" amazing songs that never recieve air time on the radio, its always free bird or call me the breeze, =(

  • Hate to tell you but Steve and Leon are not original members nor is Artimus,Bob Burns and Ricky Medlocke played drums before Artimus came along and Larry Junstrom from 38 special fame was on bass before Leon.I saw Skynyrd in 2000 in Tulsa and they were SHIT HOT.

  • course...we won't mention Ed King....and if you saw skynyrd in 2000...then you didn't see skynyrd...

  • @ackide it's hard to believe how many hit songs they have.

I think they are underated for sure.

  • HELLYEAH

  • great song, fantastic live. god bless ur wife man she had great taste in music

  • My wedding song...and NO...we were not rednecks!! ...Rosie and I just loved this song...dance to it all night...there was something about it that we just loved....it got us bouncing....coming up on the 9th anniversary of her death...from an anneurism...love ya honey....and miss you terribly...

  • It just occurred to me that I was only two when they played this concert! Awesome song.

  • u cant make this song better

  • u r ?

  • I'm not talking about the video, im talkng about the comment down there advertising his stupid band

  • what the fck people its a reply

  • Ronnie must have been scared shitless. I love this song.

  • I wont see lynyrd skynyrd in concert without Ronnie

  • ur prolly right cause he died about 25 years ago

  • great song

im going to see them on june 20 at bethel woods center for the arts!(where woodstock was)

  • Wow... I want to see them live as well. But its kinda hard when u live in Sweden... sad!

  • live is always better!

  • acording to rossington ronnie didn't say "gimme three steps".What he actually said was"If you're gonna shoot me, you'll have to shoot me in the ass or elbows"

  • That's quite interesting. Lovely :)

  • oh yea

i saw that in the interview

  • is this there last live consert before the plane crash?

  • No this is from August 21th, 1976. The plane crashed in October 20th 1977. :(

  • In the one wearing red Allen Collins? [: and is that guitar duck-taped or is that the strap slung over it weird?

  • Wearing red i Allen Collins, yes.

Duck-taped? In the beginning the black strap are "over" the guitar! :)

  • Well Ronnie is my hero for saying 'cunt' on stage in the 70s, and Gary is my favorite southern six string survivor. *drool*

255 bucks, seven nights, 13 bands = all I need in life. [:

  • I don't wanna fight you over no cu*t!

  • i love this song and this band, its one of my favorites of all time

  • Great stuff wish I could find freebird from the same festival, thanks for posting.
