  • O.O I have no words...

  • FIND YOUR LIGHT. I will punch him.

  • @cometogether756 Well the lighting changes every time he goes from Jekyll to Hyde and vice versa to almost represent the two sides- Lighter light to show his good sight, darker light to show his evil side. Plus staying in the light is hard to do when violently "switching back and forth between two personalities". Just so you know, this is not meant to be an attack of any kind, just giving my two-cents-worth.

  • You need lungs the size of America's debt to sing this song perfectly. Hardly any room to breathe in the whole song.

  • @disgusto23 That's why singers use their diaphragm :D

  • That was absolutely horrible compared to the emotion and voices that David Hasslehoff put to it. I'll say that this guy can probably sing it better, but I just hate what he did with the number.

  • @BoltroBankai

I thought Hasselhoff ruined it. He was too campy, and was clearly trying too hard, which made him come off as cheesy. He was acting, notperforming. Being in theater, there is a huge difference

  • @Glitchmaster44 I never understood how trying too hard can be a bad thing. Hasslehoff was out of his element, and he wanted to do the very best he could in order to be on the same level as his cast members. And compared to him, this guy isn't trying anywhere near hard enough.

  • @BoltroBankai

But the thing is, he doesn't need to "try" hard at all. The story he tells is coming off naturally. Not all performances are physical, but merely telling of a story, whether they be physical, mental, or an emotional portrayal; furthermore he shows all 3 aspects. You can see his pain and suffering, whereas with Hasselhoff, he trys too hard to tell a story and send a message instead of it coming naturally. That's what ruins his performance for me.

  • @Glitchmaster44 okay I don't know about you, but I like actors that actually care about what they're doing and that put a lot of emotion into what they do. Hasslehoff did that to a t, this guy not so much. Enough said. Back off.

  • @BoltroBankai

Jeez, no need to get so confrontational. This guy clearly cares about what he's doing. They both do, but Rob Evan executes it better.

  • i think i just came alive in side :D

  • poor jekyll :(

  • This is, if not the, then one of the hardest musical numbers to perform as a solo. In my opinion, anyone who can perform it at a professional level is a top-class theatre performer (not to say that you have to be able to perform this song to be considered top-class of course).

  • What the hell Evans Warlow and Cuccioli all suck. Hasselhoff is the best jekyll\hyde only sounds good as a baritone like Hasselhoff there all tenors it just doesn't sound good.

  • This is the only version I've seen that doesn't make me laugh, which is very impressive considering the staging!

  • This show was never meant to be performed live. Every live rendition looks fucking ridicules and embarrassing to watch

  • I love this performance, but...Anyone else get annoyed by the fact that - in all performances I've seen, anyway - every time Jekyll's part comes, the performer automatically throws their arm up as if they're reaching for something, even when the gesture doesn't make sense?

In any case, i love him. :D and cuccioli and warlow, of course.

  • @rizz103 I suppouse, it's meant that Jekyll is looking up tu Hyde, to symbolize Hyde has upper hand.

  • @Wangaren that does make sense, thanks. haha pun! upper *hand* =P

  • @rizz103 I always saw that part and immediately thought of a man arguing with a mirror, set higher on the wall than head height, which is why Jekyll always looks up and Hyde is always looking down. Maybe that's what it is meant to represent?

  • Brilliant performance!

  • What is the point of them ripping open the shirt :/ I don't see the symbolism with that.

  • @Aykerusey Emphasis and fanservice.

  • @VideoMask93 Uhu...Every version I have seen they do it but it isn't actually written in either of the two scripts I have XD

  • @Aykerusey Thrown in stuff like that is surprisingly common.

  • I love the force with which he transforms, it's odd it's such a clean break and yet the force is clear from his arms still swinging. But it works. Brilliantly.

  • Just been reading the book and I'd like to smugly correct the comments below: Edward Hyde is never described as handsome, but rather as short, frightening and 'deformed' in a way which observers can't describe. He is significantly younger than Dr Jekyll, though.

  • @MrBuch169169 Yes, Hyde is depicted as a squat figure, visibly younger than Jekyll and shorter as well. It is also said that, through the narration by Gabriel John Utterson, there is something inherently deterring about Hyde, something repugnant and off-putting. It was as if he carried something of an aura (metaphorically speaking) of evil with him, and that people that crossed his path received an immediate sense of disgust, recoiling away from Hyde.

  • @MrBuch169169

Most though focus on the last chapter of the book, which is where Jekyll writes a confession before killing himself, the entire story is more of a mystery with Utterson and Jekyll's friends believing Hyde is blackmailing Jekyll and trying to expose Hyde's decet. The song though captures the heart of the story: a man who spent a lifetime repressing the dark aspects of his soul until they manifisted as another person, plunging him into a war with himself

  • His Hyde is awesome! Sooo Charismatic! but Jekyll is a bit weak compared with it. Such a Shame!!!!

  • I don't know why I thought 2:33-2:35 was so hilarious. But besides my own querky sense of humor, I am so impressed with this performance. Hyde's personality in his interpretation was soooooo unique. I loved it.

  • Rob Evan and Anthony Warlow are my favorites in this part...I got the chance to see Jekyll and Hyde with Rob Evans and Linda Eder (who I adore!!) and it was AMAZING!!

  • this gave me the chills

  • He's pretty liberal with the timing, huh?

  • @ChrisAlgoo haha, yeah! but I kinda liked it. :)

  • you see i've never been sure about the change in voice because is this not about the fact that these to parts of the pysche are from the same person so why should the voice change im just wondering what would be best cause i'll be performing this in about a month and was wondering peoples opinions

  • @watsie551 yes thats true, but in the book it sais that Hydes voice is deep and gruff, because he is a pre-human caveman animal pretty much, David Hasselhoff didn't really be a voice change and that was pretty good but...the voice adds character to hyde in my opinion

  • @watsie551 In the book they are two different people (in the same body) except Edward Hyde is actually very handsome except for their eyes and Hyde's a misanthropy.. The voice is a big deal, it makes more difference than this hair flipping...I really hate them switching directions, it seems pretty amateur. :/ I still think Anthony Warlow is the best person to ever play Jekyll and Hyde. :) Best of luck and try reading the book (it's not actually long at all).

  • @RiaLizJewell In the book Hyde isn't hansome?

  • @FandPrulethesky My mistake, forgive me. It was Jekyll who was handsome but Hyde was a bit younger looking than him. It's been a while. '_';

  • um, okay, he must feel really tired after doing what he did. and how can a singer as good as him exist? he's amazing, that's all. :)

  • @dscobee1 I agree! Where did that come from??

"We don't need a flag, we live here!"

"no flag no country. That's the rules that I just made up."

  • OMG...of course Warlow voices are the best (admittedly on a studio album), but I can't believe everyone that thinks this is better than the Hoff's version. I cracked up at this version of Hyde...what's with that accent?!?!? I keep thinking he's going to say, "Do you have a flag?"

  • @dscobee1 Hoff is disgusting and should be slapped with a dead fish for ruining this show.

  • @dscobee1 You're obviously haven't watched this or the Hoff video. I hate to feed the trolls, but on the off-chance that you are serious: ARE YOU SERIOUS? You're entitled to your own opinion, but, you've gotta be kidding me. Rob Evan hits every note here spot on, and plays extremely different characters.

  • @dscobee1 um, are you nuts? i admit that i haven't watched the musical and warlow really did an amazing job singing this but the hoff guy didn't sound good at all man(but he ain't that bad either)! i watched hoff's version of this to compare and suddenly had a bad feeling when he started singing. this REALLY is BETTER than hoff's version. the way he sang this song is just awesome. the way his voice transformed and all. also, his accent is fine man. ugh! X(

  • I love this song. He is a wonderful singer!

  • Marti Pellows one is way better, when hes singing he sings to hyde in the mirror and then hyde appears up on his massive window nd they both sing at each other its incredible

  • @darthkazden I would love to see that!

  • @TaurusGirl423 its really good :P

  • @darthkazden I'm sure it is! You wouldn't happen to have a video of this, would you?

  • this is too fast paced

  • @666MartyB666

That, and he lapses into near-speech during the "Lost in the Darkness" reprise. FAIL!

  • This being my favorite musical would have to say that this was amazing! His hyde might have been "stereotypical" but he did a damn fine job.

  • I'm thirty seconds in and I'm tearing up. Geez.

  • His Mr. Hyde reminds me of Tim Robbins for some reason.

  • His Mr. Hyde reminds me of Tim Robbins.

  • Don't like it. He sounds great as Jekyll, but the Hyde voice sounds kind of...stereotypical.

  • @RCCola339 Now that I think about it, Hyde's voice is pretty stereotypical, but I think that's what I like about it. It's just so evil with a touch of insane.

  • THat was pretty good 8)

  • Good God! This man is so talented.

  • unbelievably good. wow. i'm speechless.

  • Wow. just wow.

  • What recording is this from (not Jekyll and Hyde, but the specific recording)?

  • @broadwaystar92 A tape from 2001 when Evan was the matinee on broadway.

  • I've a question.. how do they make the switches like that? o-O Effects? I'm not sure how...!

  • @NejiFireFlame Well, the costume is divided in half: he has his hair down over half his face, the other half is combed back. One side is bloody shirt/sleeve rolled up vs. clean shirt/ buttoned sleeve. He just turns his left/right side to the audiance, so you just see that one side. Posture changes as well. The voices is just his amazing voice dropping or raising an octave/tone, and the rest is lighting.

  • @NejiFireFlame Well, for the lighting, it's simply just a switch someone does. For the clothing and hair switch, it's a beautiful rendering. They made his right side look like Jekyll (clean slick hair, nice clean shirt) and his left Hyde (scraggly hair and blood matted shirt). Amazingly done and props to both Evan and the director.

  • nah average. strayed from melody way too much and messed it round

  • It was so funny to watch the transformation between Hyde and Jekyll. In our show we will have two people one for Jekyll and one for Hyde, it is looking amazing right now.

  • DAAAAAAAAAAMN that "Neveeeeeeeeeer!" WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!! :DDDD

  • ROB EVAN= BEST JEKYLL & HYDE EVER!!!!

  • @Broadwaypuppet I still think for me it's hard to choose between Evans, Warlow and Cuccioli. To me all three of them are amazing.

  • @NavaeraGreenleaf88 I am still down for Cuccioli before any of them.

  • @Broadwaypuppet ive met him lol we are friendss and i agreeeeee

  • @Broadwaypuppet dude robert cucculio was the best

  • While Rob Evan does emphasize his changes a little better, I still like Hasselhoff's performance better. Maybe it's coming from a musicians stand point thats played the music, but this one just doesn't seem to sit well with me.

  • Comment removed

  • 1:31-1:35 If only Hoff said it. Then it would be true!

  • @Broadwaypuppet

haha that was funny but harsh

  • @popprincess6253 I agree. I take it back! Yet you must agree, Rob is 50,000,000,000,000 times better than Hoff!

  • @Broadwaypuppet

well yes, but hasselhoff was still okay!!! i mean ive seen worse!! hasselhoff has a good voice, just doesnt change his voice too much. however. rob is more sexy as hyde.. while david is more... creepy as hyde.. which he should be

  • LOL! SNEEZE TRANSFORMATION!

  • You should the swedish actor doing this. 100 Times better!

  • I'm officially in love with Rob Evan.

  • though I have a video doing this the audio and so on a staging was in my house and I know I can take David, but not Robert he is AWESOME.. I will be recording this on a stage with production behind me... But always have fun singing this song.. But right now it is Christmas so I an doinf the Grinch.. I have concerts in my house with major performers all the ime and have fun singing a song or two between acts..

  • This is my take that I think everyone else is thinking Rob's Hyde is more refined and calm showing that his darker side is cold and unfeeling yet still manages to show his murderous nature.David's Hyde on the other hand is more wild and bloodthirsty showing the beast like nature that is in us all in this respect I think both actors have done well in their take on Edward Hyde.

  • this is my favorite song from the mussical

  • Okay. So Robert Cuccioli has a better voice, David had better physicality. but rob evans has a balance of the two. Its super good. He is the best jekyll/hyde in my personal opinion.

  • Wow, he sings horridly...

  • @SpockLover27 *hands you a Q-tip* I think you were having a little build-up from overexposure to Hoff. This should help :)

  • WOW! He is BAD!

  • I think that this is the best version of acting that I've seen so far :D

  • His acting is phenomenal!!! So amazing. This blocking has always bugged me, but he pulls it off and actually made me like it. This is the way to do confrontation. He had an objective for each character and switched from them very well. He's amazing.

  • NAILED IT

  • Here's what I have to say about the main "Jekyll/Hyde" Contenders:

Both Robs (C. and E.) do a FANTASTIC job as Jekyll/Hyde.

Warlow is also very good singer and actor for the part.

Hasselhoff... eh, but I give him an "A" for doing the best that he could do.

All in all, they give it their own flairs, and that's what makes each of their performances unique.

  • Anthony Warlow does it the best bar none

  • thumbs up for the sneeze transformation

  • @donutbear and the "say-it-don't-spray-it" at about 1:37

  • @donutbear

    xD

  • @donutbear

kinda like lunch(or was it launch?) from dragonball( >< )

  • love his performance but wish it was little bit slower.. :((

  • Over dramatic. Hasselhoff and Warlow r the best of the ones i've seen.

  • I wish I was a guy...then i could perform this awesome character... I shall do a girl version and will instead be called "Jenny and Hyde" or "Jackie and Hyde..." haha.

  • Comment removed

  • can you buy this version of jekyll and hyde with him and coleen together?

  • I think the speed took away a lot from the performance. I love the speed that is used when Anthony Warlow performed this song.

  • @bamamusic08 haha the speed is awesome, but wow...this guy is too good to be true, the other ...not, can't remember his name ...that's why they speed him up haha.

  • I've seen Rob Evan perform a few times in person with Neil Burg's 100 Years of Broadway. He is just unimaginable. I love this video because it perfectly shows of he was made for theatre. This is not an easy performance to give and he vocally and emotionally conquers it. I hate to even watch anyone else play the part (parts) of Jekyll and Hyde

  • 0:46

Is it just me, or did he sneeze as he became Hyde?

God, wouldn't it suck if you turned into your evil alter-ego after each sneeze?

"GET THE PEPPER AWAY OR I'LL KILL YOU ALL... I'M NOT KIDDING."

  • @crawlfan LMFAO

  • It was making my neck hurt to watch him flip around that like XD But this is awesome <3

  • I'm sorry but this isn't the "BEST" version...This version kinda sucks dick...The best version that I've found was the one Anthony Warlow sang...He's incredible! If any of you get the chance, find Anthony Warlow's version of confrontation... :-) Warlow's version is like an orgasm in your ears!

  • @firefighter6199 Dude, if you wanna talk about a version that "sucks dick"...listen to David Hasselhoff :S

  • @moninblue Hasselhoff rocks. The switches r so definitive.

  • @moninblue Hahahahahahaha!!!! Y hear you loud and clear...lol! I find that Hasslehoff sings too far into his throat and nose, puss he has that VERY Obnoxious vibratto...lol

  • I'm sorry but this isn't the "BEST" version...This version kinda sucks dick...The best version that I've found was the one Anthony Warlow sang...He's incredible! If any of you get the chance, find Anthony Warlow's version of confrontation... :-)

  • 1:38 he looks at the camera =D

It still fails me to understand why he was the UNDERSTUDY...

    *scratches head* o.0

  • check this one out---- Taylor Zako

  • Rob Evan is one of the best Jekyll/Hyde's after Robert Cuccioli. The shirt rip is much better than David Hasslehoff's...

  • Is there a movie with Rod Evan as Jekyll and Hyde.. Im pretty sure there is one with David.. right? But i was wondering if there was another one with Rob.. Cause Rob is soooo much better then David!

  • @02shannon There is a DVD version of Rob Evan's performance, but it's really hard to find. It's not sold in any stores. I looked for it for a long time before finding it. I finally managed to buy a bootleg copy a few months ago on ioffer.com. You might want to check on there if you're interested.

  • is this performance (live stage video) available as a whole somewhere?

  • I think the best version of this song is in czech Marian Vojtko, but of course its just my opinion

  • not only is Rob Evan's performance spectacular, but the lighting is amazing too! i mean its spot on every single time, great song from a great musical.

  • Hassohoff = comic performance

Evans = intense well acted performance

  • I can't stand Hasslehoff's version, he can't sing at all well!! Rob Evan is fantastic, my dad used him in a recording for his musical he is brilliant

  • amazing acting talent on show!. awesome version, much better than the hoff!!

  • this is some truly fine acting/singing.

  • I think it's amazing how a simple toss of the hair and different lights and voice can make such an effect. For all movie makers, all starts with the stage. Drama is the predecessor of Film. This performance was spectacular, and one day I want to see the dvd or the play.

  • ooh he mixed up voices on "no never, yes forever!"

  • i LOVE Rob Evan's performance of this song. my high school did this play last year tho and the kid who played this role did OUTSTANDING

  • this is my least favorite version. my favorite would be anthony warlow.

  • That last note, on "Never!" is SO INTENSE.

  • i don't need you to survive like you need me, I'll become whole as you dance with death! And ill rejoice as you breath your final breeeeeeeeeaaaathhh

  • How can anyone say they like Hoff better at ANYTHING? He is freakin' HORRID! Laughable!

  • @bornbad74 Actually I dont like like his voice, but I think his acting is better.

  • he sounds more like the time period this was in, but i still like the Hoff a little more =/

  • I like hoff better in this song but I like Rob Evan better in the show

  • I like this Vid, we watched it in English

  • I love this song so much.

  • Is it just me, or does his Hyde sound a little like Darth Sidious? At least at the very beginning.

Personally, Evan seems more of an actor than a singer. I mean, he's good, but he acts out a lot more than he sings. Plus, he even directs the lights in his last hand motion.

  • IT DOES!!! Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepppppppyyyyyyyyyyy... =)

  • @JohnABall thats what i think & personally i think he talks most of the words

& he doesnt sing very much.

  • This is great! I'm a big fan of Anthony Warlow's performance, but this is really excellent too. Rob Evan is clearly a talented actor.

  • i love his voice...but he doesn't sound very intimidating as hyde. overall he's a great actor...i just think he needs to work on be more intimidating.

  • hasslehoff isnt as good of a singer as rob evan

  • True, and not as good of an actor as Rob Evan either in my opinion!

  • I really like his Hyde but in my opinion he is talking to much.

  • Comment removed

  • the thing that i love about this version is that Evan not only acts each part but he really sings each part. actors tend to talk sing this song when they are hyde and Evan does an amazing job of making this a good song as well as an amazing acting job.

  • This is a wonderful version. Never heard this one before. My favorite used to be Warlow. But Evan's is just as good or maybe even better. Hasselhoff's Jekyll and Hyde were crap. There was harldy any acting. And I just think the Hoff can't sing.

  • 1. Rob Evan

    2. Robert Cuccioli

the really bad actors are. Anthony Warlow the not good actor and singer of jekyll and hyde.the Big Badest of all is David Hasselhoff.

  • you are entitled to your opinions...

  • DO you HAVE any taste? Warlow, Evan and even Cuccioli have some- if not a lot- of talent.

Hasselhoff KILLED J&H. Warlow was the original for a reason you dumbass.

  • Comment removed

  • @MHChaplinFan Hate to break it to you, but Cuccioli was the first on BROADWAY.

Warlow was handpicked to play the role on the very first CONCEPT recording (that means the first one, for those too slow to follow). Therefore, Warlow was first.

Next- do not call my boyfriend a dumbass. Come up with a properly constructed decent reply and I might actually give you a second of my time.

Learn about the history of a show (and learn how to structure a sentence) before you throw judgements around.

  • I agree Hasslehoff killed J&H and yes you are wrong chaplain..... Cuccioli was 1st on broadway.

  • @RebeccaCJ actually, colm wilkinson did the first concept album, very few of the songs from the final musical were in it and a lot was changed but it was still the first. warlow came after wilkinson.

  • @RedKingCommandz - You are quite correctin saying that Colm was in the very original Concept Recording. Warlow did come second as despite the fact he's not my favorite person he does a much better job tha Rob Evan.. Which apparently doesnt seem to be hard but never the less....

    @MHChaplin - You are a fool.

  • @josh3801

Warlow is one of my favorite performers...but you do have to admit that Warlow had an unfair advantage...

I've had the pleasure of singing this and I will tell you it's incredibly hard...especially at this tempo...

  • I am entitled to my post and i know more of jekyll and hyde. robert cuccioli was the first then it was rob evan for the Original alternate, replacement, and closed the show as an alternate. if i was in jekyll and hyde when i play them you better not that to me. sod off ok rebeccacj. i don't care about your boyfriend ok hes a fucker to all bad comments to anything.

  • @RebeccaCj Rob Evan is A Standby of Jekyll&Hyde For The First National Tour, Just Like Cuccioli But More He is A Alternate For Cuccioli and He Was Later A Broadway Lead of Jekyll&Hyde,When Cuccioli was Out of The Role after All of His Performances AS Jekyll and Hyde. Later There Was A Album That Rob Evan Did That was Jekyll & Hyde Resurrection Album. That Album He Did was Made At A Concert Tour of the Album of Jekyll&Hyde.Cuccioli will never be as great as he was once but Rob Evan came after him.

  • He makes some funny faces :P but he's still sexy and really does make you believe he's switching back and forth between the two. It's damn hard changing your voice back like that that quick, I think he's freakin awesome! Whether he's given a better performance or not, this is still damn good. I don't like when other Jekylls don't change their voices for this song, it's so sexy when he does!

  • Yeah, I wish there was a dvd without that douchebag

  • @macemalakai you meant to say david hasselhoff right cause he is a douchebag.

  • @MHChaplinFan Of course my good man... of course

  • i only like 2:29-3:13 :P

  • Was this London or Broadway?

  • I think this is a much better performance than Davids, Even though david has some good parts, Rob has definative switches between Jekyll and Hyde. David doesn't change his voice that well when he turns between but rob you can definatly see a switch. Good show btw ^^ I sung transformation once, Unbelievably hard.
