The only thing I would add is that I don't believe EU membership and globalization are all that they're cracked up to be. They seem like a giant free trade scheme by the rich meant to benefit the multi-national corporations while leaving the average European worker holding a bag full of national debts. I've heard that the problems in Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Greece were caused by people betting in the stock market that these nations would not be able to pay their debts.
