On March 1, 2007 a Japanese veteran soldier Yasuji Kaneko admitted to The Washington Post that the women "cried out, but it didn't matter to us whether the women lived or died. We were the emperor's soldiers. Whether in military brothels or in the villages, we raped without reluctance."[78]
"There were no commercial brothels. Force, explicit and implicit, was used in recruiting these women. What went on in them was serial rape, not prostitution. The Japanese Army's involvement is documented in the government's own defense files.
These documents were initially made public at the war crimes trial. In one of these, a lieutenant is quoted as confessing having organized a brothel and having used it himself. Another source refers to Tokeitai members having arrested women on the streets, and after enforced medical examinations, putting them in brothels.[79]
On April 17, 2007, Yoshimi and another historian, Hirofumi Hayashi, announced the discovery, in the archives of the Tokyo Trials, of seven official documents suggesting that Imperial military forces, such as the Tokeitai (naval secret police), directly coerced women to work in frontline brothels in China, Indochina and Indonesia.
Prostitution in South Korea is illegal,[1] but according to The Korea Women's Development Institute, the sex trade in Korea was estimated to amount to roughly 1.6 percent of the nation's gross domestic product.
Modern prostitution
Despite legal sanctions and police crackdowns, prostitution continues to flourish in S Korea, while sex workers continue to actively resist the state's activities
Actual sexual crime rate in Korea is 110 times worse than the official statistics indicate.

(Part3)What was happened actually? Many brothel owners opened their business next to military gates. It was a natural because they could make more money. This is quite natural. Therefore Japanese military did not open these brothels during the war, but brothels owners who were local people in the countries which Japanese troops were dispatched. Were they hurt by the Japanese? We can’t find any evidence of that except ladies verbal statements.
(Part2)In other words, Korean ladies decided to get the job. In fact, they got a lot of money. Also, they amused themselves by participating in sports events with both officers and men, and attended picnics, entertainments, and social dinners. They had a phonograph and in the towns they were allowed to go shopping. The Ladies were allowed the prerogative of refusing a customer.
(Part1)According to the Japanese Prisoner of War Interrogation Report No. 49, which was reported by U.S in Aug 20 to Sept 10, 1944, 20 of Korean ladies were working as comfort women in Japanese camp during WW2. The "house master" that means manager of the comfort house, received 50 to 60% of the girls' gross earnings depending on how much of a debt each girl had incurred when she signed her contract.
The Gwangju Democratization Movement (Revised Romanization of Korean) refers to a popular uprising in the city of Gwangju, South Korea from May 18 to May 27, 1980.
During this period, citizens rose up against Chun Doo-hwan's military dictatorship and took control of the city. In the course of the uprising, citizens took up arms to defend themselves, but were ultimately crushed by the South Korean army.
The National Defense Corps Incident in 1950, Commanders of Korean Army including Syngman Rhee plundered foods and army's supplies. These plunder made 90,000 soldiers starve to death.
Among the roar of indignant around the world, of course from Korea herself, Syngman Rhee stole Takeshima suddenly, and declared the Syngman Rhee Line Jan.18,1952. He had the intention to keep his power to the nation.
No Gun Ri Massacre was an incident during the Korean War in which an undetermined number of South Korean civilians were killed by soldiers of the U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment between July 26 and July 29, 1950 near the village of No Gun Ri In this incident, 300 civilians were killed.
The Bodo League massacre in 1950, members and their families of Bodo League, political prisoners and non-armed civilians, total more than 200,000 people killed by South Korean Army and South Korean Police. One of the sources say they killed 1,200,000 people, all Korean.
Jeju Uprising from April 3, 1948 to 1954, South Korea Army and the right wing killed 60,000 islanders.
Mungyeong massacre in 1949, South Korean Army 2nd Division Tuan company 7th Squadron, 25th 2nd 3rd team squad killed 88 villagers in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang district of South Korea.
The Autumn Uprising of 1946 in Korea was a peasant uprising throughout the southern provinces of Korea against the policies of the United States Army Military Government in Korea and in favor of restoration of power to the people's committees that made up the People's Republic of Korea. In this incident, 136 were dead.
You have to understand that these are the folks who don't testify about Nanking genocide either. It is unfortunate that comfort women issue is not getting forgotten and often questioned. Yes comfort women were recruited voluntarily first and every Japanese comfort woman was prostitute but other foreigners were not. They were forced or lied.
The remaining documents are in FBI library and US is hiding them as a method that can control Japan. That is to say, there is not a single thread of evidence that was publicized to prove that the Japanese military forced women to work as prostitutes. But no matter how hard the mass media looked for the proof, they couldn't find anything because Japanese generals who were afraid of the world to know about the existence of comfort women burned most of the documents.
The so-called "comfort women" refer to women who worked as sexual slaves for Japanese soldiers during World War II. Needless to say, army life is full of lively men. (So does every other army in this world. French, British, Italian, German, you mention it they never had comfort women. Peace could no be achieved by only one nation. Any nation, even big powers, could not achieve it without allience. Japan could not accept Korea to be invaded by Russia or China and to be turned into an anti-Japan nation, so Japan had warned Korea to be more strong, strong enough to defend it by themselves but they didn't.

The remaining documents are in FBI library and US is hiding them as a method that can control Japan. You are not looking from both perspectives. Comfort women are victims even in your scenario that they volunteered for it. If indeed, they were "workers" why were so many comfort women killed by Japanese? Do you know that Japanese army wanted to hide it so when they heard UN army was coming they killed majority of comfort women?

@Daviysoh I am already aware of the information you provided me. You sound like that I could have not known that Korean soldiers worked for Japanese army in Taiwan and Indonesia. This is also known to pretty much every Korean. There were numerous discussion on the matters of Koreans who worked for Empire Japan. The testimonies however demonstrate that many of those Koreans who worked in Japan were recruited not in their will.

@Daviysoh Because there was no other way to support their family or live without showing their loyalty to Empire Japan, a lot of people had to fake their loyalty or even accept the army recruitment. Even the Korean gangs were about to be recruited to Japanese army right before WW2 ended, but they made a treaty with Japan to follow certain instructions on creating a group that leads Korean public to "japanify" so they were luckily excluded from the recruitment.

@Daviysoh These facts clearly show that any average Korean men were in the position of having to accept the recruitment from Empire Japan once it was requested or implied by local Japanese officials because otherwise their family's life would be in danger. (In danger in respect to continue their business or to be not arrested often - because Koreans under Japanese regime were frequently arrested with no reason except if they were hated my local Japanese officials)

@chunghey1 Anyways, these Koreans who worked for Japan even had to be on military trials after the war under the name of war crime because after all they just looked like a normal Japanese soldier who did exactly same thing like many other Japanese. Many Koreans died from these war trials for Japan who abused them and discriminated them. This makes me more upset that innocent Korean soldiers were destined to work for Japan not on their true will but to protect their family back

OK,first of all, there wasn't conscription system applied to Koreans at the time.They were all volunteers without compulsion (Actually there were Koreans who became teacher,farmer,athlete and so on).

@Daviysoh Yes, they were all volunteers. But there is something called you gotta act what they like to do. Just like how the high officials in NK are doing for Kim Jong Il. (Although he's dead now) You are not forced publicly but you are forced in every other way. And yes, some of them really betrayed their own nation to seek for the success which was only possibly through "japanifying" themselves because Japanese were the ones who controlled and had everything back in the days.

Because they invaded and occupied our lands telling farmers to get out their land where they have been harvesting for generations and generations just with a reason that their land wasn't recorded at the local government office. @chunghey1 Not only that Koreans lost their land, they lost their names and were forced to cut their hair which was important to them at the time because under Confucius ideology they practice for centuries cutting or damaging any part of your body was sin. However, Japanese obviously didn't care a shit about what Koreans valued at the time so just forced everyone to cut their hair. Why is it important and why am I mentioning in here? @Daviysoh Most of Koreans confess that they had to fake their loyalty to the Great Empire of Japan. Some of them however are listed on the book of "People Who Sold Our Land" (I can't think of any better word to translate the title of the book, maybe you can just understand it as the book of betrayals) Those folks did actually work in the favor of Japan and were cruel to Koreans copying what their Japanese superiors were doing so that they could get successful.

The only way they could somehow be off the radar was clearly by showing their loyalty to the empire so almost everyone did it. This is what I am calling as "fake loyalty." It was voluntary looking from outside. no laws said anything about it.

@chunghey1 Secondly, there was no discrimination in army. Actually some Koreans got higher rank than Japanese and were honored medals by the Emperor. Those Korean brokers were not forced to do that job. They were frauds who managed brothel without permission and deceived innocent girls. It was Korean, not Japanese who forced women to prostitute. If Koreans were oppressed in military, they would be forced to join into the first of the front line in fierce battle fields.

No word Josenjin which is till used in Japan came from this era. The usage of this word which should have simply been referring to people of Chosun has negative meaning.

Do you have any proof that Korean brokers were not forced to do that job other than the fact that there were Korean soldiers who were in higher rank?
