Is there no copy of this footage on youtube without bloody music all over it? I just want the whole race in it's entirety, and with the BBC commentary. Please?
Remember this like yesterday. Well, actually I remember the original footage and commentary, but every version on you tube has no commentary and instead an 'inspirational' soundtrack. Pity. The original commentary is far more moving, but I guess people like to add their own musical spin to it.
im so sorryz guyz will find a bloody body in your closet hanging there haunting you and will kill you and ur family and if u want to stop this just sends this to 6 videos in 30 mins or this will happen good luck
Two thumbs down. What sort of twisted fuck would dislike this vid- oh n/m I keep forgetting that Randroids would disapprove of him not bootstrapping it to the finish line.
It absolutely broke my heart at the 1:19 part: All that pain and the realization of something you've worked so hard to achieve is gone must've been incredibly hard to face.
And I'll repeat it again: A champion is someone who gets up, even when he can't.
Heart determination to finish the race I say, he kept pushing no matter how much heart broken he lost that day. As he limped around the track, his father came waving to the medic to please get back..the son was in tears and in so much pain, the world will never forget the father and son 92 Olympic games. Never quit no matter what you do, this is an example of determination to follow through. They are winners in my book, I'm proud to say, It just a reminder, to always finish & never quit noway!
why can't I find a video of this without corny music in the background?? It completely ruins the pureness of the moment. It would be much stronger if the only sounds we hear were the ovations of the crowd. If someone knows of this video without music please link it to me, ty
It's not always the champions we remember in sports - sometimes it's moments like this that make us realize what we (often pathetic) humans can aspire to. Thanks PTI guys for reminding me about this incredible event - and happy belated Father's Day!
I was too young to see this when it happened. But every time when I watch it, even though I know what is going to happen I start to tear up when Derek gets up and wants to finish the race. He had no reason, he just wanted to get over the finish line and his father coming out was just instinctive fatherly love for his child. This is what its all about- the olympics, not money, not fame but your own soul..... nothing can destroy the human soul
I think is pretty sad that this happened to him....but maybe if he had won,he would only be remembered until a better athlete came....NOW he will always be remembered no matter how many athletes come!!
Like the man who finished last and 3 hrs behind in the 68 Olympics marathon, it is moments like this that trully inspire. I have all but forgoten the names of the medal winners that day, however I will always remember when a father put everything aside to help his son.----------A father and son bond that goes beyond words.
He was disqualified as soon as his dad touched him. In my book that makes it all the better--a record book that says he did not finish but millions of people who say he did. Contrast that with Mark McGwire who owns all the records in the book but knows the fans don't recognize them.
its so horrible when you're favourited to win and something like this happens... I was winning a 100m sprint and with 10m to go fell over, came last and ended up with a tone of scars

This was totally overrated. Should we celebrate everyone that gets injured in a race? He probably only pretended to be injured because he knew he wasn't going to medal.
@sbtbfanatic it def was not overrated. he was favorite to win and he was in the lead when he caught his injury. Its not the fact that he got injured in the race that we celebrate, its the fact even tho he was injured he still kept going and finished the race. his drive and ambition is what should be admired
that is what true sportmanship and the spirit of the olympics is about, the man could off sulked and been carried of, but no way .his first olympics and one of the favourites and the man wanted to finish the race.always stay in my heart.thanks Mr Redmond
goood movie! he's a good example that we always need to end every thing that we begin... No problem if we yet "lose", but the important is always end every tings begins in our life!
showboating! oh grow up this guys a hero. He had such bad luck with injuries this was the only Olympics he was fit enough to enter and he was determined to finish
even though he was dq'ed when his dad came and help him he wanted to finish what he started just like the people who kill themselves in a marithon, he didn't want to give up. that the pride of the human spirit.u don't want to be a quiter
Where is the original broadcast? I find the music in the background sort of distracting. It takes away from the moment and makes it really cheesy. At least its not as bad as the creed version.
This show-boater probably only pretended to be injured because he was losing the race! He and his dad probably planned this before the race just to get attention.
I remember watching this live in 1992 and was not impressed. This show-boater should have stepped off the track when he pulled his hamstring! Instead, he hobbled along the track with the aid of his father and should have been DQ'ed for receiving assistance.
But whether he has a time or a DQ doesn't change anything. A show boater doesn't cry on his fathers shoulder in front of Billions of people. He didn't do it because he knew he'd get attention or anything like that. He did it solely because he cares so much about what he was doing.
When you love something enough, it doesn't matter at all what others think, it's about what you want and what you believe in.
People. Have you noticed on thing? We should not loose our heart in our life, we should continue like Derek. He is really brave Man. Its really awesome video. God Bless you. Ameen
thats fucked up. he shot have gotton like a platnom metal for that or something. u know the fucking guts it takes to get back up and do that? shit. that is wat i call a good guy. i hope i meet him one day.
This video makes me cry every time I see it. The picture of Derek and his father hangs proudly in my track locker and I always look at it and remind myself of what they did. Derek is my inspiration and it is very difficult to do what he did. When you love something that much, you'll do whatever it takes to finish what you set out to do. It was so sweet to see his father go and help him.
that official who tried to rip this son out of his fathers hands while they are trying to finish a race needs to be slapped in the face, what a blatent disreguard for probably the most bonding moment a father and son could have, anyways, amazing vid really touching
Of all the Olympic moments I've seen, this is by far the most indelible. It moves me as much now as it did on the day it happened in 1992. This is what the Olympics are all about!
I think that "white dude" adds to the emotion in this moment. Because if he was trying to stop Redmond then that just shows the determination Redmond had to finish the race even though people were trying to get him to stop.
Now that is dedication! damn.. those guys with the white shirts were stopping the dad from helping his son.... I was laughing wen he was shooing them away! GOO MAN!
I remember running in a no name 800 meter race in high school and being pushed flat on my back by the guy behind me. When I got up it was too late, they were 100 meters ahead. I was so upset I cried great tears. I can only imagine that Redmond felt the same way amplified 100 times. It was great that the next day while taking a walk, feeling sorry for himself,he met his future wife who was out on a training run.
Can we just clear this up? He's British. From Wikipedia: Men's Athletics Competitor for United Kingdom World Championships Gold 1991 Tokyo 4x400 m relay Silver 1987 Rome 4x400 m relay European Championships Gold 1986 Stuttgart 4x400 m relay Derek Redmond (born September 3, 1965 in Bletchley) is a retired English athlete. As a 400 metres and 4 x 400 metres runner, he won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, the European Championships and World Championships.
I'm sitting here with tears rolling down face, and I'm thinking to myself, 'Have I ever done something so great like what Redmond's dad did? Something even close?' And you know what- I haven't gotten much. Sure, I've helped people in need, but not because I wanted to. I did it either because I felt like I had to, I was forced to, or I was doing it for myself. This video is a true example of what we should all be. Now to find a tissue...
my soccer coach told us his struggle through life from bolivia to united states and he showed us this video right b4 an important playoff game. the team left the locker room in tears, and of course won 2-1 thnx to the coach's motivational speech and Derek Redmond's heart demonstrated in 1992.
hey um bro i was wondering if that coach that showed u this coaches at la joya hs he went to my school a coach from soccer and told us his life story and showed us this if he is reply back i never got the coaches name though when i saw the video i did cry it remembered me missing a penalty and loosing the championship
It was very sad for him. He was back to his 87 form and would have made this final. He was certainly in the Roger Black class.
To make matters worse for him, David Grindley went on to beat his British record in the next semi. Grindley was another great 400m runner 4 GB who had his career ended early by injury.

For goodness sake, Derek Redmond is British. He was born in Bletchley, Milton Keynes. Get over it, he was NOT American.

this was amazing...music, and all captured this moment so well, and the interview at the end...thank you.

What an inspiration, the greatest moment in sports history in my opinion.
YouWereTheWooorst 3 years ago 4

REALLY BEUTIFUL

It was very sad for him. He was back to his 87 form and would have made this final. He was certainly in the Roger Black class.
To make matters worse for him, David Grindley went on to beat his British record in the next semi. Grindley was another great 400m runner 4 GB who had his career ended early by injury.
