It took real guts for this doctor to but his neck on the line to speak out against the establishment, not just for himself, but for ALL junior doctors.
His passion for his job, his career, and ultimately for all his patients is clear for all to see.
This IS the type of doctor you want to look after your family and loved ones when the chips are down as he really really cares.
Thank you Phil for speaking out and standing up for what you believe in!
I'm an American as well and I'm really impressed by this format.
Also, I'd like to know more about the situation they are discussing. What I can gather is that there has been a deficit in spending for the NHS and doctors will be losing their jobs because of it. I also read something about a computer training system, and I that there have been some hugely expensiive IT implementations recently.
Are these implementations blamed for the problems?
And before anyone misunderstands me, I agree that under New Labour the state of the NHS has been a disaster. Ive close relatives who work for it. Its very easy to demonise politicians because most of us arent in their shoes. No individual can make the NHS perfect and whilst she has been a terrible SoS; to describe her as evil is implying she wanted to create problems. Her good intentions had terrible results.
Anger is fair enough and I sympathise with his general views- but shouting has never achieved anything in our society. And David is right. On a programme like this it shouldnt be just a two way thing. Call me what you will but I find it hard to listen to ranters. And if I find it hard to listen to them, its hard to sympathise with them. But it is true that Hewitt came across as patronising.

Yes and what makes it worse is he's supposed to be a doctor. He came across as an uneducated moaner. I could hardly concentrate on the words he was using due to his disgusting tone.
Great clip. Not just because of what Dr Phil says, but because he had the guts to say it, when I take it some of those making comments about what this might mean for his career (a load of bull!) will just let anyone shite all over them, and their own less influential "careers".
I am glad that evil woman has gone. Look at what she did to the NHS last year and before. The pfi could cost my Mum and lots of others their jobs. We will sadly end up going like America where those who can't afford health-care have to go without.
God, Patricia Hewitt was the most nauseating & unbelievably patronising of politicians, I actually had to switch the radio off when she came on, I physically could not bear too hear those condacending tones.....
Well done Phil, as someone who doesnt completely understand the government system of voting ministers in and the fact that your little farcical attention seeking stunt will have marked your card and probably ended your career I applaud you. Brilliant Phil, the epitome of moron.
As a consultant who has been on the end of a 'Little Phil' tirade during a ward round I think he was soft on the crime and soft on the causes of the crime! One appearance on national TV and you've become a wuss! Really enjoyed the trembling lip and the passion well done but next time you abuse a secretary of state you need to stop sitting on the fence and tell them what you feel. Hope Mrs Hewitt has not got access to your MTAS application.
Silly bint, thankfully retired now.

dude, i have no idea what this is, considering that I live in America.
But, if America was to have a television show like this... with like a panel full of government officials...
wow, i don't even know. too many people would be too busy trying to kill the panel rather than coming up with questions.

David is useless, he should have let Phil go for it, rather than letting her get a second wind.
Paxman would have let him carry on and then forced her to respond. Nice one David, totally crap!
