  • Thyroid help??

Dr Best, Thanks for this video. I am a very active person I have been fighting with weightloss for the last 2 years. I have been fioghting with my Dr on WHY. Thyroid levels are normal. So he sent me to a Dietician/Nutritionist after our first visit she put me on a 1700 cal diet (my resting met rate is 1400)after 1 month I gaing another 7 lbs. She is refering me back to the Endocrinologist for an Antibody check? She agree's something is not right. Any Ideas??

  • @Ishatay10 You didn't say where the weight gain is on your body, and that's the first thing I look at to be able to narrow down the cause. Is the weight gain all over (including the arms and legs), lower abdomen, hips / thighs/ buttocks, or do you have a firm, protruding belly (looks like you're pregnant)?

  • @DrGeorgeBest Oops! My weight seems to be all over. Also- my body fat percetage is going up(39.7%). My Dr. keeps saying "well you are 40" I also often feel bloated/puffy. In the past I've cut calories, added calories. Even stoped any weight training too see if that made a difference. I'm so frustrated I feeling giving up the fight.

    Whats wrong with me???

  • @Ishatay10 It sounds like low thyroid function to me. Even with normal levels, the hormones may not be communicating properly with the cellular receptor sites and/or something is interfering with the mitochondrial DNA. The bloating suggests to me that it could be a problem of excess estrogen blocking the thyroid receptors. If you are on HRT or birth control, I'd start by getting off of it. If not, you might be getting artificial estrogen exposure from your diet or environment (pesticides, etc).

  • thankyou Dr George for explaining it so deeply and in such a simple language thanks a ton i am from india and i really find ur video helpful . i got my thyroid tested and the reports are normal how can i find out is their any other problems in cell level ?? suggest

  • @guggututu For checking things at the cellular receptor level and at the level of the mitochondrial DNA, it requires bioenergetic testing either by Applied Kinesiology (manual muscle testing) or with some type of EAV-based electronic testing equipment. Unfortunately, neither type of testing is in widespread use in the U.S. and I doubt that there are many practitioners in India.

  • @guggututu If you have the thyroid pattern of weight gain (all over weight gain, including the arms and lower legs), my approach would be to act as if the problem is somewhere in the thryoid system and begin with the diet and exercise approach that works with the thyroid. I would also suggest you get tested for iodine levels and if low, to begin iodine supplementation.

  • I wanna know "how" you are supposed to eat when exercising....I know about the 5 to 6 small meals per day, but WHEN? Should I eat right after i exercise, or not? What about before?

  • It doesn't matter that much. If you stay away from excess carbs, the main fat-burning effects of exercise kick in while you are sleeping at night because this is when the effects of growth hormone (the release of which is stimulated by exercise) are most intense. Since it doesn't matter with regards to weight loss, my recommendation has to do with circulation and good digestion. Finish eating at least an hour before exercise and don't eat anything for at least 30 minutes after exercise.

  • Thank you for your comments. I'm glad you found the video helpful and that you found help for your thyroid issues.

  • Thank you for sharing this very important information. Most Dr's will not even hint that there is a such thing as thyroid hormone conversion problems, which I have. (fortunately, my tests clearly show it, therefore I am able to get combination therapy, but it was an uphill battle to get my Dr. to consider it). Kudos to you for explaining what can happen at the cellular level in simple terms. I will definitely skip the Dr. Pepper from this day forward!
