  • moving trusses are controlled by winches haha not servos

  • 0:37 kinda looks like a face lol.

  • Yes, TSO's rings and effects are over-the-top, but that's the point. My pick of their rigs so far was 2008-09: nine moving trusses, three sets of three concentric squares, with each corner of each square controllable. The centermost squares had LED screens on the underside, and were used as platforms to bring down three performers, who played solos before being brought to stage level. The back wall had five more horizontal, moving truss bars. The effect was big but geometric and balanced.

  • @JonasClark I take that back! The 2010 show had the platforms to bring down three performers, as well as two giant catwalks that came down and hung 20 feet over the audience as performers walked out. Incredible, and there's no telling what they'll do this year, though it's certain that they'll top last year's show somehow. I'm torn between hunting up video of tour stops before mine, or just waiting to see what pops up!

  • Search "cyberhoist" and watch the first movie

  • they have also made scene setters for automated truss rigs, all the dmx does is send a cue to the scene setter and it does what it has to do. this has the fault sensor. So yes it technically is DMX controlled but can be over written by the lead rigger.

  • this cannot be dmx controlled, well it could, but it would be a bitch to do.

  • it is dmx controlled with an extra safety operator on stage. So it takes another operator, but way too cool looking!

  • Its not dmx controlled, it would be done using midi as dmx has no error checking.

  • its what can u please explain cause i would like to use a moving truss

  • @ahughestv it's probably neither of both. It's probably a custom protocol /signal made by the company that makes the hoists used here.

  • stunned.

  • lol dmx controlled electric hoists

  • i hop for them it's not controlled by DMX, DMX is an very unreliable protocol.

watch?v=wVKL5MnBeMQ watch this one, that's what i call moving truss

  • Well if you go see Rush in concert or there last two dvd releases there trusses drop down in a few songs

  • well its just done with electric hoists ;)

  • holy moly bryan hartley is a genius

  • Saw them when they came back to Denver, CO. My brother does this kind of stuff for games, concerts, special events along with setting up, rigging, lights sound, tear down but he loves the TSO set up. I have seen them many times and their concerts never get boring. Strobes, lasers, pyro, the energy, the music, talk about a natural high or adrenaline rush.

Btw he doesn't do all of it at the same time. Might be a little complicated especially when he's on the catwalks. Ive met TSO and theyre nice

  • I've been working on Tech and I've always wanted to learn how they do that

  • The Trans-Siberian Orchestra's lighting always goes OTT, but it's so good!

  • Jesus, the lighting design is completely lacking in subtlety. OMG LAZERS! STROBES! COLORS! NOW ALL THREE AT THE SAME TIME! I'd think enduring such KOOL lighting would become tiresome after a while.

So yeah, I guess it goes along perfectly with TSO's music.

  • ummmm yup!

  • perfect song

  • If you want to see a whole lighting rig moving and if you are in anyway interested in lighting you will know that Pink Floyd on the 1994 "Pulse" tour (filmed at earls court) is possibly the best lighting show in history (not technically but just for volume of lights!)

  • +1 on that!!!

  • @HopefulArtist you've seen TSO lately? Their current Winter Tour in my opinion is equivalent or maybe even better than the Pulse Tour set up. That's just my opinion. Check them out

  • Masturbation, every bit of it.

  • somebodies jealous

  • saw them last night in Nampa Idaho. of coarse, the real thing is much better. really awesome. their talent combined with the light show leaves you totally stunned. it is amazing.

  • If you go to a show on the side of the tour that Bryan Hartley is with (was easter last year, don't know if it always is), then you can meet him. He's the LD for TSO. I went down to FOH after the show and met him, and asked about the rig, etc. It was aweosme.

  • I remember walking into teh venue, and thinking "what the hell? those lights are focused straight down..." then the show started and I about shat my pants when all 5 trusses started moving. Amazing show, amazing LD and techs that strip it down and set it up every night.

  • TSO is amazing as well as their LD and crew. But I have to say (in response to keaveny) LD Marc Brickman was the 1st to pioneer moving truss (aka Pods), and really took on the inovation of automated lighting.

  • I remember a Yes concert back in 1984 at Wembley in London when as they played Starship Trooper in the encore the whole lighting rig lowered to the stage around them with servo lights and lasers going mental. Was awesome then and looks like TSO have taken it a few steps further. Props to them... I wish they'd come to England!!! :)

  • holy crap..i'm so gald there comeing hartford...yay

  • When I worked the show in 2003 there were about 46 rigging points, now there are over 100 (havent heard the exact number for this year, but i would assume about 120). It is absoutely amazing to see the setup of this show, and props to the crew and band, they are some of the nicest people I have met.

  • Nice piece to be sure. Genesis did the motor controlled truss thing (with over 100 moving lights) over 20 years ago with lighting company, ShowCo.

  • WoW those tech's are so cool :) I wish I had that job light is fun to do and see
