@ZeroColdCoffee that doesn't make sense, seeing as owls can't move their eyes at all. Their eyes are so large, that they fill the ocular socket completely, and are immobile, hence why they have the 360/180 mobility in their necks, so they CAN look anywhere they need to.
God, these birds are a never ending fest of information, no matter how much you find out you want to know more, every breed is different, VERY interesting and intriguing creatures.
I always ponder, what must it be like to be an owl. There such inquisitive creatures. Ever since I saw the legend of the guardians trailer I've wondered...hmmm...
That's a general gauging gesture. (The side-to-side movement of the head/body)
Many bird species do that, to determine distance to where they're (debating to) fly to or the distance of an enemy..or whomever comes near it= a threat.
I've seen Ospreys blatantly do that in a wild animal rescue place, and even my little cockatiels do that a lot, especially when about to fly to my shoulder from a distance then lean forward at the ready and do it.
;3 I hope that's your bird brain-food for the day~!
what she is saying at the beginning of this video is not true though. Owls' eyes can't look in different directions independently from each other, they can't even move in the eye socket. That's why their heads can turn so far back.
all birds look like chickens to me. drumstick, wings, breast and stupid birdbrained expression. except owls. they just look so different. owl r awsum.
Mwhahahaha so adorable!!!! The moment I lay my eyes on a screech owl, I fell in love with it. I wonder what it eats... I am guessing bunnies and ducks like other owls... I would love to see a screech owl snatch a bunny bigger than it!!!
What a cute little WOL. He is very dopey but she is obviously giving him a lot of tlc and he looks happy. Very tame l'il wol and I too love screech owls.. they are more like cartoon owls than anything we have here in Britain and you can see why people draw owls with triangular heads.

As I understand, it was injured at some point in the wild and will never again be released, since it has been around people for too long. The two that they had when I filmed this had been in captivity for 3 years, I think. Last time I went to the wounded animal center there, one of the two screech owls had passed away, unfortunately. I felt sorry for the other little guy sitting in the cage all alone :(

Owls eyes are fixed in their sockets. Unlike other raptors they cannot move their eyes independently.
If their employees are misinformed about anatomy, I hope they have better information regarding the care of these noble creatures.

I also heard that owls have fixed eye sockets. That women was wrong on that one. They have to move their whole head to see something.

Was this owl imprinted on humans? The woman doesn't seem to be holding it by its feet to restrain it.
