  • They battle was more epic in the newer one too. My I know this was made a whole ago, so it's ok

  • I personally like the new one better. That's me personally. I was born way after this game out so I only really watched in school. I just find the new one a bit more exciting and it has great actors. Im just not used to this sort of film of you know what I mean.

  • Damn at 0:50 seconds Aslan had all of those women? His name is actually AUSTIN Powers

  • 5:10 poor Edmund looks scared... I know I would be if I was playing him...

  • I'd like to use this opportunity to bitch about the bullshit apologist theology presented here, if I may? Thanks :D

The "deep magic" that requires blood sacrifice for deluded "treason" is the bloodthirsty Mosaic Law, and God can only counteract it through a loophole... but in this case, Edmund actually IS guilty.

In Christianity, EVERYONE is - so this is another Lewis fail, I guess.

Whatever... Barbara Kellerman is a goddess!

  • 0:40 Austin Powers :D

  • Always loved the scene with Edmund on the flying horse - so magical!

  • @HeathenMaiden Sorry I didn't mean to sound rude. I know that everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. I guess it was kinda late last night and I wasn't thinking......Sorry MeBenHalpin

  • @narniac77ringer Don't worry about it. Just think before you post (if you want to avoid being misunderstood or flamed) that's all. :)

  • @MeBenHalpin How dare you dis edmunds acting! He is leagues better than Lucy and that's my opinion!

  • @narniac77ringer Well to be fair - that's *their* opinion, you know. If you can have one, so can they. You can't tell someone they can't have a certain opinion and in the same breath say you feel a certain way because it's your opinion. Doesn't matter if you disagree with it, there is no right or wrong when it comes to opinion, because that's all they are - personal and individual opinions.

  • I simply ADORE the costumes in this adaptation, merely for their inventiveness. Like how all the fauns are wearing high heels so that it looks like a hoof from the front. :P

  • @Egabbacknuks

It also makes them look gay :D

  • i dont think ive seen any adaption of any fiction be as close to their source material as this, all 4 of these narnia films had the dialogue almost as good as word for word from the book, thats probably why i respect this series so much

  • I used to think Aslan was played by an actual lion.

  • If you want to see bad special effects see the 70's and 80's Doctor Who. but I still like them just as much as the new ones. ;) a bit cheesy is okay sometimes. it distracts me from grim reality.

  • Why do most of the productions for children show a history overacted? I think that underestimates the intelligence of children.

  • AS THE LLLAAAAAAAAAWWWWW STATES!!!! lol so funny

  • @lovedanc1

"For everey treacherey.... I have the RIGHT... to keeeelll-ah!"

  • How do I know this promise will be kept!?!?!?

    RAWWWRRRRRAWWWWWRRRRRRAWWWWRRRRR!!! soooo scary.... :P

  • I love how Susan, Peter and Edmund all look like siblings but Lucy doesnt look ANYTHING like them...

  • Thank you for posting this. It was and is the best version of Narnia ever - and for all those disbelievievers, I have watched all versions. This one is the best - the closest to the book. Thank you again.

  • @Ryhela I don't think that closer to the book necessarily equals better. The beavers and the special effects look ridiculous, it's so distracting when they are so poorly done. Not to mention that the acting is far better in the newer version, the final battle is far more exciting and the weapons and costumes look so much better. I like the BBC version, don't get me wrong, but I really like the epic-ness of the movies as well. I think that both versions serve the books well.

  • @aerdna14 couldn't have but it better myself. I grew up with the BBC version and loved it, it will always have a place in my heart because it was so dear to me as a kid but I like the Disney versions better. Each one has something I like so I'm not hating on either.

  • @aerdna14

Barbara Kellerman is more epic than everything else in the Narnia franchise combined :)

  • @twooffour I like how Barbara Kellerman literally plays ever single main female villain in the entire franchise, hahaha.

  • @aerdna14

Yyyyyyyou can alwwaaaays, bring herrrr, baaack!!!

  • Haahaa Barbara is yelling at a sock puppet lion!

  • Why does people complain? Its an old tv series from the late 80s. And the effects are pretty good for its time.

  • None of the other books were as good for me as the first, mainly because you didn't have the same dynamic between the brothers and sisters. In the first book you see them growing closer together and becoming stronger, after that they just seem to be there.

  • @ 7:35 You call that a roar?

  • @1triplej2 Thats more like a bad stomache lol!

  • @currycatdrone Lol good one..

  • @1triplej2 I know...

    LoL!

  • I really hate this Aslan. His voice is annoying and unconvincing and when he roars like at 7:35 he looks like he's constipated or that he just realized he farted. LOL

  • 3yrs old kids?

  • From 3:33 to 4:03, I get so excited by Barbara Kellerman's presence especially with the intense music. She totally defeats Tilda in this scene.

  • the robotics of Aslan in this movie were most excellent for the time in which it was made

  • This is silly.

Aslan is just plain ridiculous and laughable. Liam Neeson's portrayal was heaps better.

However, as much as I love Tilda Swinton, Barbara's performance was outstanding.

  • @Iisdabest889 it's aimed at young kids who have imagination and young kids who were young kids in the 1980s.

The key point here is YOUNG KIDS.

  • @THthefirst What are you talking about? Are you suggesting that crappy effects are better than good ones?

  • @Iisdabest889 It's relative. In 1988 when I was 8, this was amazing.

You have to judge it by the standards of the time it was made, and also stop being so precious about a CHILDREN'S programme that was aimed for kids at tea time with their parents, not the cinema and CGIs and special effects.

Effects are pretty irrelevant anyway - it's about the character and feel of the thing

  • @THthefirst Oh yea that makes sense. I mean, as I said before Barbara Kellerman's performance was perfect, but I don't care much for the actor playing edmunds...

  • Yeah, in this one he's just like, "Oh, I'm sorry. Hyuck Hyuck Hyuck. It's all better now!" Where as in the new one you can tell he feels really bad about it. Point goes to the new one on this.

  • This movie is very simple even for me. A kid like myself who grew up in the 90s I'm kinda used to special effects but i loved this one way before the new one. The white witch is hesterically intense specially w. Asaln =) But she's amazing you can tell she can really scare you. :)

  • the white witch makes me jump....shes sooo intense, what a great actress!

  • 7:30 minutes LMAO MUST SEE 7:30!!!!

  • @FurryBrandonXD

It sounded like a really good fart! You know the kind that been hiding in there for a while and when it comes out its like "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

    Lol

  • the white witch is soo intense in this version! she does such a good job

  • ok that lion just creaps me the fuck out!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the white witch is funny shes a nut case in this version but in the disney version shes calm and speaks slowly HAHAHAHAHAHAH i love both versions!

  • Don't get me wrong, I love Liam Neeson, but I adore this Aslan, too. His voice is so slow and gentle and soothing. And for a puppet, the lion is really well-made. I own Caspian and Dawn Treader, but I'd never seen LWW before. Thank you so much for posting! These are so classic.

  • This is great stuff so far.

  • I enjoy this mini series, I just can't stand the girl who plays Lucy. Her voice is terribly annoying, I know she's young but why does everything she says have to urgently be shouted?

  • @PharaohHazard Lucy's not that bad, you want annoying, try the guy who plays Edmund.

  • and whats more che cries when something goes wrong!

  • hahahaha the lion is a robot lol

  • i just can't get over the fact that the dwarf plays Trumpkin... and the fact that it took me until this watching to notice it... and I've seen it manymany times...

  • looks like a couple of dorks playin dress up in the park. ah i love it tho. Thanks for posting it!

  • I've read and watched this video in the 5th grade; and I loved it.

  • Lucy isn't THAT fat. Well sorta...

  • Well they spent a lot more money on the newer versions, so you have to admit they did better in several ways, but the BBC version is a true classic imo.

  • I kinda think that i like the new version better. but this one is still good.

  • i wanted that one faun to be like," bitch shut the hell up!"

  • This is in my opinion the best verison of this movie because it is the closest to the origional books. The new Disney version has better graphics its true, but this is closest to the actual book which to me gives it the trump card!

  • I wish people would stop pathetically slating this.

Just accept that this was the original, allot of us who watched this when it came out, will always think this is somewhat the better version as per the book.

But thats not to say the new ones rubbish, its just loosely based on the book and has better CGI, but lacks any realisim.

Just accept this one for what it is!

  • the witch is way too dramatic. seriously she doesn't have to a shout. everyone can hear her.

  • LUCY IS FAT!!! lol (without offence)

  • Was aslan-actor a real lion? its accually embaressing to not be sure in mya ge, but its pretty well done if not

  • I think with the way the lion is moving its actually some kind of animatronics, all I can think of to suggest its that is you cant see any of the muscles moving which would seem to suggest that.

  • i kinda have to agree that they did a good job. I dont think its real tho...if it was, im almost positive those kids would not be there.......alive atleast.....

  • Wow, the White Witch is overacting.

  • personally, i love the cheesy graphics!

    (no sarcasm intended)

this version does a better job of showing the religious metaphors in C.S. Lewis' books and

it more closely sticks to the books than the new version, which changes a lot of things to make it more "exciting", but really Lewis' books need no improvement

    =)

    easily, my favorite version

    thanks for the upload!

  • i like the graphics too. I do like reallistic, but the cheeziness gives it innosence, which i suppose is what cs lewis intended, as well as giving a christian picture.

  • What's cheezy about it?

  • i like how people comment of stuff looking fake. pssst there is no such thing as a talking lion no matter how fake it looks. booo they didnt have the special effects like they do today booooo

  • Are you for real?!

This is the BBC Narnia. NOT the Disney Narnia. You'd know that by just reading the TITLE of this video (since you clicked on it and watched it). This is NOT fake. If you actually read the video description you'd see that this was made in 1988. That's 17 YEARS before the Disney Narnia.

And the lion in the Disney movie was CGI. Special effects. NOT real.

  • You must be very young, so I'm not going to yell at you, or give you a thumb's down for sheer remarkable ignorance.

This the the original BBC miniseries adaption of Narnia, made before - years, possibly decades before, since I remember first seeing it when I was six and I am now twenty - the disney movie adaption that doubtless you are more familiar with.

Many of us here enjoy the nostalgia. Please don't spoil it by making ignorant comments without a scrap of truth to them.

  • I never saw this before =o

  • I remember watching this as a kid and my mother would complain about how the flying mythical creatures don't have the proper wing span to support their bodies in flight.

I'm on such a nostalgia trip right now. Thank you for uploading.

  • lol, maybe because she had lost her sense of magic and was thinking from a logic standpoint.

when you're a kid, it's always better to not let your parents complain about the movie. it ruins it for the kids. lol

  • I really love them old series, I have lots of memories from this as I watched it a 100 times as a child. But lets be honest, isn't the actress playing Lucy like the ugliest child ever? :O

She was always a disturbance lol

  • no..why would you say such a thing?

  • the reasobn why this movie pulled off is because of the white witch acting

  • i dont understand cause of i didnt see the first chapter and the cartoons

  • Edmund got off a bit lightly, don't you think? When you consider all the shit he stirred.

  • Aslan, The Lord Of Lords, The King Of Kings, The Conquering Lion Of The Tribe Of Judah, Ever Loyal, Ever Faithful, Ever Sure, When I n I Hear Him Roar.

  • You know, of all the things one could say about this, one can't say that the mythical creatures weren't animated very well. I personally think they're the best part of this. ^.^

  • white witch reminds me of currella devil

  • @jtco3 It wasn't a movie, it was a serial. Obviously if you think of it as a movie you may be surprised that it is quite stagey rather than filmic but it fact that is because it isn't a film! While the special effects might seem corny some of them were really very impressive at the time, especially the animatronic lion. As for the acting being overdone, I guess you are referring particularly to the white witch here who plays her role very much within the British pantomime baddie tradition.

  • @wozziesgirl Look I wasn't dissing this movie at all I love this version ok it was made me obsessed with Narnia so back off

  • @jtco3 Whoah, touchy! "Back off"?! My comment relates entirely to the programme and is not personal in any way or an attack on you.

  • Comment removed

  • The white witch is like a female Beian Blessed.

  • the white witch sounds like maleficent from sleeping beauty

  • Is the one where Peter, Edmund and Lucy die in a train crash on here. In fact, was it ever televised?

  • If you are talking about "The Last Battle," then no.

  • @TVGIRL5 I think that no.. even I would love to see it. I hope that someone will do it. :)

  • its crap truely crap

  • peter n edmund is d same height...

  • Music is good. Costumes are good. Even effects are good considering the time when it was done. It´s the ACT that´s absolutely terrible.

  • It's not terrible, it's theatrical!

  • skkandar did so much better st showing edmund's remorse

  • agreed

  • hell to da yeah!

  • The beavers in this look well funny!

  • they look gay

  • the aslan in here sucks i like the other one much better

  • Sometimes the message is more important the CG effects.

  • I agree. But sometimes people take the wrong message. They get hung up on the parallels to the story of Jesus rather than keeping the actual lessons the story can impart. I realize Lewis was a Christian, and wrote this as an allegory... but the point of what Jesus taught is how to act, not what to believe. Faith has replaced reason, and people grasp the metaphor instead of the message. What I like about Narnia is it helps show the bible is just a story. Take it as a lesson, not as fact.

  • That is a very good point.

    big appalause. :) (not ironical)

  • I'm getting tired of this Queen, she is always shouting with great gesture! I really prefer Tilda's interpretation. I guess it's a proof you can play a same part in diferent way, it's very interesting.

  • Yes, the white witch is indeed cold!

And I like this movie, along with the new version!

  • I like the other edmund, he's hotter ;)

  • i like how the witch in this series is the kind that's loud angry, and the one in the new movie is more of a quiet angry ^^ they're both excellent

  • Aslan is plain retarded. Im sorry but its true. They way he pushes Edmund at 1:29 is so weird hahaha

  • i used to watch this as a kid and i loved it!

but holy crap, how times have changed..i don't remember it looking this dodgy..=/

  • same here! now I feel bad bc I can't stop laughing!

  • peace beaver.

  • 7:40 lol at that gay lion growl.... it looked like he was trying to take a dump...

  • hahahahahhaha, its a beaver or it is chwbbacca hahahahaha, aaaaaaaararararrgggggggg!!!

  • I would have given Edmund some serious slack..

  • And that matters... why? This was done in the 1980s. We didn't have the same size-0 ideals back then

  • Holy crap the lion is actually two men in a costume !! :O

  • Well, yeah, it's the 80s.

  • haha omg thsi is so fake...its hilarious

  • LOL "freeze in hell batman!!"

  • She's your queen and your all welcome to her but there is no comparing the two scenes, I like tilda's haughty ice queen this chic belongs in a soap opera she reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin

  • Big difference between this chick and Tilda...Tilda is a good actress!

  • This whole movie was really not well done- but the White Witch gives me chills. She really is C.S. Lewis' White Witch. I love her!

  • Barbara's acting was great :)

There is amazing power in White Witch's voice when she claims her rights to Edmund's life

  • Oh absolutely! She will always be the one true White Witch for me :D

  • me too. She's da baddest chick!!!
