  • Wow. It looks amazing! And I can much better understand the edges!

    - roc

  • @popparoc46 Thank you roc, that means a lot! You can sew the edges and leave the loops, I've done that to connect several to make a small rug or place mat. I'm always cutting up material for my loops to use. lol

  • I am really looking for a detailed description of how to finish the edges. I am confused by it.

  • @twintwinsin2 To finish.... you use a crochet needle to loop one one loop from the loom into the other like crocheting a chain. If you would like for me to do a better video, clearly showing the ending, let me know and I will gladly do that. I really didn't put much thought in this when I was working on it, sorry. Thank you for stopping by.

  • can you please make a video on how to end it?thanks

  • @me123party I am making a pot holder now..... I will post a video soon on how to end it. Sorry it's taken me so long. Thank you for stopping by!!!

  • Thank you so much!

I had stopped weaving on a loom for a while so I had forgotten how to finish it off once done.

I made a purse for my younger sister out of two pot holders and stringing together looms/string to make the handle and gave it a design with bows at the end.

Thank you so much! Though I had to keep replaying the video part where you were finishing it off since I didn't understand but I eventually got it.

  • @emmerasz Well thank you! When I made the video, I didn't think anyone would be interested in it so it was a quick one. I appreciate you taking a look and commenting. I love the idea of making a purse out of them, Awesome! I will have to try that! Have a GREAT day!

  • could u please how us how to connect them and make rugs and stuff i want to so bad but i dont know how and i cant find any videos on it

  • @forevermadalyn156 I will see what I can come up with. Once you have made several pot holders, line them up for the size rug mat you want and you get heavy thread and hand sew them together. You can make rag rugs, cut scrap material into strips and weave it together and sew to bind them. I will see what I can come up with. :)

  • this is wonderful!

    you actually helped!

    you should be on oprah.

  • @hannahgabrielledrew I'm glad I could help. I found a way to make my own loops too. I need to do a video on that one. Have a good day!

  • LOL that was very awesome!!!

  • @Southwik Thanks... cheap... simple... I did find that a lot of people like them. I made several, sewed them together and made rugs for my utility room.

  • @LissiKinz I will see what I can do for ya. Finish the edges.

Start in one corner of the loom and use a crochet hook to go through the corner loop and grab the second loop which you will pull through. Then pull the third loop through the second loop and the fourth loop through the third loop. Go all the way around. It kinda looks like a Chain! This loop will remain as a loop for hanging your loom loop potholder.

If this doesn't make sense.. I will try to make a video for you.

  • @LissiKinz Alissa, no problem, trust me I was confused too. I will make ya a deal. If you can wait a day, I will make a potholder video (instead of pictures) just for you! So what color do you like?

Also if you are interesting there are ways to use the same loom to weave pot holders with yarn too. Pretty easy and they can be attached to each other to make place mats and I've even made a small thick blanket for a friend's baby.

  • I love blue

  • Oh thanks so much! I made these as a child and i just bought my 5 year old the stuff to do it today. I just couldn't remember how to finish the edge. She will be so excited to try this when I pick her up from school!!!!!

  • Awesome! I couldn't remember but found my instructions from years ago and then it all came back to me. There are so many ways to make them now. I still love making them! Enjoy!

  • i just ordered more loops. These pot holders are wonderful much better then what you could be and the store. I have 2 pot holders, made this way, that i've had for a good 20 years! Talk about durable!

  • Thanks for stopping by. I love these pot holders too. I had to buy more loops and found several places that sell them online. I sewed some of my pot holders together and made rugs out of them too.

  • Thanks. Just what I needed. I had forgotten how to do the edges. I'm trying to show my kids this craft so that they could make nice holiday potholders for their teachers.

  • Oh very cool! I had forgotten too and then hunted on the web for kits and seen pictures and it hit me.. oooh yeah thats how we did it. You can still buy the kits and loops which is cool, also side note you can use yard to do it too. I think potholders are great gifts! Take care, Martha

  • Good video. My mom had so many potholders like this when my sister and i were younger. I feel like making more now. :)

  • Yeah my mom did too.lol The cool thing about this loom, its you can make the potholders with yarn too using this same loom. It seems that the potholder video brings back good memories for all,so thats a good thing.

  • Neat! :)

  • Thank you !

  • I remember making these when I was young. They have improved on the material (fabric) that the potholder is made out of now. Used to be that bad nylon stuff. This material looks more fuzzy and soft. Yes, a rug would be great made from potholders.

  • I seen the nylon loops the other day. I just don't like them as well. These are cotton, kinda like a sweetshirt, I swear I could just up a few sleeves and make some potholders. lol

I am working on several crafts right now, making things for Christmas and I hope to make a video about them soon. I have one in the works, remember those braided rugs. I am making one out of towels that I cut into strips. They are really soft on the feet and match my towels in the bathroom. lol Have a great day!

  • Hi Martha, that is so neat. You could make all sorts of things with this idea couldn't you?...like place mats etc.

  • Exactly Millie!!!!! Place mats, I've even made rugs too. Sewed them all together. I hope you have a fantastic weekend!!!

  • I love those sort of rugs

  • yeah me too! I've been making several using different weaving techniques.

  • I remember when I used to make those:)

  • heheh yeah I think most everyone has made potholders at one time or another!

    Happy Birthday Sam!

  • Thanks, Martha :)*hugs*

  • How fun, I have never been crafty but I love the look of them! Ton of hugs Mel

  • Mel... you are way creative, I've seen many of decoration for the holiday or presentation of food. You are crafty my dear! Hugs right back atcha, Martha

  • Hey I use to make place matts with those things.

  • Hey, yeah we use to make them for mom for mother's day. I like simple things!

  • What a clever way to make a potholder. I am still using potholders that my niece crocheted for me when I got married 37 years ago!! and she just came for a visit and was astonished to see I still use them every day. Hers were the pattern like you use for making crochet quilts into small squares and join them up, if that makes sense to you. Jacquie (UK) x

  • Hey Jacquie, yeah I love the potholders, they last forever. I've even used this method for making rugs too. Its amazing things one can make out of simple materials. Have a good day!

  • Crafty! I made one of those in art class!

  • I loved Art class. I took an art class in 7th grade when I lived in KY -- it was knitting and stuff. After that I just continued on in Art classes, pottery, weaving, stained glass to name a few. I have way too much fun with this stuff. lol

  • Okay, now that is awesome. It looks like even I could attempt to do it? Hmm. I have never been good at the crochet stuff. That is just gorgeous, Martha!

  • Yep, you can do it Beth! The cool thing about the crochet part is, you just loop one loop over the next one and thats it. I made 3 potholders yesterday. lol The 3rd one looks much better than the first one. I love to weave, I am currently working on a tablet weaving project, its harder but I find it fun.

  • I can't see myself doing weaving. You do however make a good teacher Martha!!

  • Thank you Norman! I love weaving, been doing it for years. I also do tablet weaving and small looms for beading. One day when my sewing room is done I will have all that sitting out and maybe I will show how to do them.

  • Cool Martha, I always wondered how my sister made those!

  • Daryl, I'm glad you liked. See now you know how she did it.

  • OMG I loved doing this when I was a kid! I drove my mom and dad crazy I made so many...LOL

  • lol Bay, maybe you will make some again.

  • Yeah I know I really should get one and do some...My kids would like it as well! I did Latch Hook years ago too and have some really cool ones.

  • haven't seen one of those in years ;)

  • I've always loved this dang things. lol

  • Where do you get the fabric loop? Do you make them? Are they elastic?

I was wondering how you were going to finish the edge, very cool.

I simply adore watching craft videos like this one! 5* and fave.

  • I left you a privated msg telling you where you can buy you a kit. Its really easy child crafts. Folks love them around here. Thank you so much for watching!

  • Reminds me of my Mum and Grandmother, one would be doing the Crochet and the other it be knit one pearl one knit one pearl one LOL

    Phil

  • LOL Phil... I love to knit too. I took knitting class when I was in 7th grade. I appreciate you stopping by. Hugs and stuff, Martha

  • i remember making those years ago...mikma was here

  • Hey Hey Mikma, great to see ya my friend! Yeah it seems that most folks remember making them. Ahhh memories!

  • LOL, I used to make potholder when I was little and would go around the neighborhood selling them - 10 cents apiece or 3 for a quarter! I sold a lot of them. I used to make sets.. LOL What fun memories! Thanks Martha!

  • I'm glad they brough back memories for ya. I'm always making gifts and it had been a while since I did potholders like this. I usually make quilted ones. Shoot 10 cents a piece is pretty good. Take care!

  • I used to do the rag rug kits when I was a kid too.. do they still make those?

  • They sure do. I've made my own frames and stuff for various weaving projects. I made plastic bags, out of the strips from the plastc bags you get at the store. They hold a lot and work great at the beach and stuff. lol

  • I used to make these ALL the time when I was a little girl!! My Mom still has two of the one's I made!! I need to get me a loom and make more, I miss doing crafts! Yours turned out perfectly Martha!!

  • Thanks Angie, I like the older looms -- plastic isn't the greatest but my other things are in boxes. lol I love making the rag rugs and weaving belts and stuff too. Get ya one Angie, it brings back great memories!

  • i bet thsi is good for stress.

  • It does for me. I love this time of craft, knitting and stuff.

  • looks great, i wish i had the patience to make things and be creative, only if i could leave my computer alone for awhile ,,lol

  • I was sitting at my computer while making it. lol I love to make things. I just forget to do a video when I am in the process. lol
