The better for me is the t3i because all features has the same the only difference is the speed and the auto focus,, if you are only a nature photographer and just taking photo with someone else i prefered t3i.. dont waste your money to 60d im sure that extra features dont affect the quality of the pictures its just the lens matter not the body its about how you take a photo with manually adjustment.. thank you
Although your points are well taken...the relative difference in cost is about $380 (at least today it is). I ended up buying the T3i with the understanding that I will most likely upgrade sometime in the next few years. Yes, the 60D is a better camera, but you pay for that cost, and although cost was not an issue, for my needs, I believe the T3i is a better deal dollar for dollar. The 60D and 600D (T3i) are essentially the same camera with a few tweaks to capture a more amateur market.
Dude, why do you have a dozen sheets of paper?! You should've boiled the points down into 1 sheet! Far too many umms and ahhs make you look like you don't really know what you're saying. I've made it 4 minutes through, but I'm done.
@poopwazza 600D is more for enthusiast photographers not for near pros who like to have cameras like 60D as backup. Also it could be a pain to change lenses frequently between shoots when you don't really have time. Like I said, 600D is for enthusiasts and these features matter a lot to them. Getting a 70-200 L lens is of course not a joke.
@TJstylez619 It is a biggie difference since that digital zoom in 600D is for video mode only and it does that without compromising on the video quality (since HD video may require only 3-4MP sensor and the camera uses it's 18MP sensor to full capacity and crops the image to HD size). So, even if you didn't have a long zoom lens while shooting the video, your camera is going to make up for that.
Also 600D has better Audio controls that 60D is yet to have.
@wiredwhitewidow *sigh* so do I, my friend, I bought it soon after watching this vid and have been using digital zoom ever since. Watch vimeo dot com /20420054 and just try it out.
You compare 2 products, one placed higher in the canon line up and you are suprised that the 600D does not have some functions? Reason to choose the 600D: lightweight, cheaper and does just the same. You are talking bollocks.
@calpitoc Hey , Im new to these dSLRs things .. so Should I get a 60D or 600d ? :O money is not a problem to me... But the quality of both taking pictures and shooting a video. because when i take photo, i like taking pictures of nature like , Trees, skies, plants, or sometimes Coca Cola cans.. but i love "shooting guns" i wana take photo of people shooting guns , which camera would suit better :) tq !
@nightubble Bigger body=better handling. Magnesium alloy body=stronger, more durable. More cross type autofocus points=better pictures. Higher mAh rating for battery=more pictures. Higher burst rate=good for fast action shooting (sports, guns...). Honestly, for most people the T3i is more than enough. As most people will tell you, the best investment lies in lenses.
Well if you were just getting it for just video, the reasons would be the sealing on the 60D against the 3x crop zoom on the 600d which users the centre of the sensor so doesn't loose much quality at 3x.
I bought my 60D because the price difference wasn't much, since the 60D was on sale. $150 difference between the 60D body and the T3i body. Since the 60D was on sale I took it.

@DJRob4Real I suggest you go for the 550d.. Because it's cheaper. plus it's your first.. 550D is more for beginners.. video would be exactly the same as 60D & 7D.. But if you really want one of these.. then get which ever is cheaper.. :) Unless you can afford the more expensive one. haha
Same Video Quality, same 18MP sensor, same Image Quality, same video speed recording, same ISO... hello? 60D is just as some software with some so called NEW VERSION adding 3 buttons doing things already done in other software and changing the places of menus and button.... crap
@gotDesign LOL try using both and tell me thats all the difference, the viewfinder is about twice as big Pentaprism instead of Pentamirror. The AF is about twice as fast and more accurate for AI SERVO. also it is alot stronger and has some weather sealing. also you have top LCD screen and rear control wheen which is much faster to adjust settings. battery life is more than double from one recharge, higher max shutter speed 8000>4000, less shutter lag..... the list goes on.
@demon2x3 i got myself a 600d it films very well, have you made an A / B test with a 7d? as far as i can see video keeps having the same quality in 600D such as in 7D, isn`t that weird ? thanks for your answers
@chrisknappER 600d has 99% coverage I bought a 600d and I tried the 60D after, and the shutter is clearly faster but the camera is less ergonomic some buttons are a bit misplaced but i think it comes down to price and if you find a good business on the 60d go for it, if not well, i didnt...
This may have been already said but I think you forgot a real big stat! BURST RATE! This is very important specially if you shooting sports or action photos. I know my old XSI gives me the old waiting light for to much when continuously shooting a fast moving subjects.
I suggest searching YouTube for reviews...Might open your eyes as to how foolish you sound in your reviews. Like i said in the last post i mean no disrespect but i dont get how you can sit here and pretend to be knowledgeable about something (let alone teach and consult others on) when you barely know what your talking about...
what is the point of your reviews? Ive been watching a lot lately in search of insight and in regards to collecting some opinions but honestly out of all the reviews ive seen yours are by far the worst...With all due respect all you do is read the statistics off a piece of paper ( Stats that we all have access to ) and state the most common sense facts. Its like your preparing this for 10 year old kids and still have trouble presenting it all.Honestly, do you even know what your talking about?
I just had my canon 60D stolen. I mainly used it for video so I was going to get another. My questions is for video which camera would you guys recommend?
When you film on these two cameras, you can control the aperture, so the video can be selective with the objects you are focusing, or open too much the aperture so all objects could be focus?, like in photography?
2. T3i has digital zooming for video. Doesn't lose much if any sharpness at lower magnifications because of how video makes use of sensor.
3. Someone else brought up ability to disable auto gain control on the T3i. I thought this was available on both. If not, it closes the deal for the T3i if you're serious about video.
Thanks man, For $150 difference to buy the 60d is good enough. At B&H Photo the T3i with 18-135 is like $1149, and 60D with 18-135 is $1299. - $150 difference. Good enough for me!
i see all these videos about why the 60d is a better buy, and whilst the multiple cross point af is definatly much nicer, nobody seems to mention the fact the 60d is much heavier at 560g vs 755, this was the deal breaker for me, whilst i would love the upgraded polycarbonate body and better af etc, the weight means i would never carry the camera, so its redundant.
You are just reading off the paper, and it looks like you have not even tested it. Did you just go to Best Buy's website and look at the specs. You missed so much stuff here, like the AGC (auto gain control) being gone from the t3i and not the 60D. This is such a big deal in the camera for people who do film. If you don't even know that, I would not trust anything here.
@lynchy8888 Most DSLRs shoot for a maximum of about 20 minutes. The reason being (so I was told in major photographic store here in Sydney) was that there is a higher tax on video cameras, and so they would be even more expensive if they could take video beyond 20 minutes.
I think, however, the reason is more to do with the heatsinking of the sensors. They consume a lot of power and get hot. After a while, the camera may even shut down if they reach a certain temperature.
@ArtoftheImage i'm wondering simply because im not too savvy with the tech talk. im
wondering though, in a video film setting, what camera has the better focus. i'm not too sure about the 9. af stuff that your talking about thats all.
Well after holding the two, I tried the larger lens on the smaller camera and it felt terribly unbalanced. That was a big deciding factor since I already have two other large lenses.
I bought the 60D and LOVE IT. I'm still learning all the amazing new functions (coming from a 20D) and the kit lens (my first IS lens) is blowing me away.
@salimnazer There is something important i forgot to say: You will change the camera body in few years... But good quality glass is for lifetime. The best investment will be good lenses. And they are not cheap. Again, 600d or 550d. And if you have money enough, well go for 5d markii. Dont forget, in photography, 600d is an entry level photo camera, 60d a prosumer (kind of more pro camera). But, Video, same both. Need something pro in a crop body? go for 7d.
@salimnazer You could try 600d if you want video. Think its a good deal, bc they record basically the same. If you want for photo, go for 60d. Anyway, if you are learning, got the 600d or 550d. Nice video, and you could get what is more important, glass. Its better to have a 550d with fast lens (f2-f1.8-f1.4-f1.2) than have a 7d with a f3.5 cheap lens. Then buy a 600d, and with the extra money, buy lens, or extra battery, or nice tripod, or nd filter, or etc.... regards.
@IIproductionsII mmm..., have to say to your comment about the 550d, if you feel its a kids toy, you should buy a 7d. Im pretty sure among the 550d, 60d, 7d: the 60d gets third place in a relation price/quality for video. And the video its basically the same for the 3 fo them. Its just the photo side. And, in that case, the extra cash you save buying the 550d, you can buy better glass. If you want something for pro ppl, buy a 5d then.
The 60D feels really good in my hands. Although I do not like the mode selector lock button's placement. Makes switching between video and picture mode cumbersome.
All the information you read out can be easily found on the net, why wasting time sitting there and explain all of that non-sense? Get 2 cameras on your hands, go outside, shoot and compare with each others
I film skateboarding. So the ability to capture fast motion is essential to me. I would still buy the T3i in a heartbeat over the 60D. Why? In terms of performance, the T3i covers the articulating screen, manual audio controls, better zoom capabilities, and the exact same sensor. Essentially all the reasons I would want 60D over T2i. Plus with the $500 difference, I could snag a 50mm 1.4, or an 8mm fisheye, or a professional dolly system etc. As a film maker on a budget, the choice is obvious.
@KingKassius I am planning to get this real soon. How is the video recording? I plan to shoot some videos every now and then, it's a nice perk to have but i'll mostly be shooting for photography.
You don't mention in the video the 600d/t3i's built-in zoom. No, you cannot zoom video in post without losing quality, but the built-in zoom is 0.1x-10x optical and therefore will for instance make a 50mm f1.4 prime a 5mm-500mm f1.4 zoom lens with maintaining quality and aperture. For video this is a large benefit. True 60D may be a better photo camera than the 600D, but you can't deny that the built-in zoom makes the 600d a possibly better video camera.
@mashimarojm - I'll have to look into it further, but I can't believe that with 10X zoom the video quality is maintained. Doesn't make sense. It's likely either interpolated, or reduced quality. Basically, the video quality can't exceed the resolution of the sensor.
@ArtoftheImage Is it not just using the extra pixels in the sensor to zoom in kind of how the Gh2 does using an 18mp sensor to take the 16mp pics and allowing you a bit of extra zoom? In hd video it's only using the center 1920x1080 pixels, with this digital zoom it's using the other ones, probably interpolated as you mentioned.
@ArtoftheImage From what I understand it concentrates on a smaller portion of the sensor depending on the zoom amount. Much like the crop factor between the 5dMii (full frame) and say 60D (1.6x).
@ArtoftheImage From what I understand, you can zoom in 3x without losing video quality. What it's doing is cropping a 1920x1080 region out of the full 18mp sensor. You've still got a true 1:1 pixel ratio, but the region is 1/3 the total sensor size. For the 10x zoom claim, I bet that is for 720p or lower resolutions. That, the smaller and lighter body, and the $100 price difference are the main reasons why I've chosen the T3i to replace my older MiniDV video camera.
@ArtoftheImage 1080p is 2MP resolution. The 600D is 18MP still and can give you 9X zoom using 1:1 pixels w/o image quality loss. I shoot a 7D and would love to have that feature brought in a future firmware release. Unfortunately I suspect there is a change in mechanics from the 7D and 60D to 600D
@ArtoftheImage Remember that 1080p is only about 2 megapixels and the sensor has 18 megapixels. I guess that's how they can crop without losing quality.
@ArtoftheImage I appreciate all your videos, but I have owned the t3i for a little while. One thing I can tell you is that the tele zoom feature on the T3i is not a gimmick. Canon is just cropping the sensor since in video you only need 2mp, not the full 18mp. It can be exceptionally useful for someone who does not have a high budget for lenses as it allows you to keep your aperture at 3x the magnification. Video quality at 3X is exceptional (the same), but afterwards it gets a little sketchy.
@ArtoftheImage - it does maintain quality. the camera simply utilizes and different sized portion of the sensor to create the optical zoom. it's not digitally enhancing at all.
as far as video is concerned, the 600d is likely the better option (of the two)
@ArtoftheImage They're not exceeding the resolution of the sensor. The sensor is 18MP, but HD video is only 2MP. So you can zoom in 3x without loss of video quality. Essentially you are cropping to use only part of the sensor because there's enough pixel density to handle it. Dunno about 10x though.
@ArtoftheImage ive used both the 60d and 600d, and i must say, they very similer. 60d does take better photos, but the t3i is about the same in video. plus, the t3i is nice and small (i like that, but others might not). T3I FTW!!!
@ArtoftheImage Actually, 1280x720p only uses part of the sensor so you can zoom quite a lot before losing quality. But its just a sales pitch. If you have a 60D you have a decent zoom already. 500mm 1.4 video? cant imagen a situation for something like that. specially with the high iso sensibilities these days!
The image covers the whole sensor. To be full HD you only need 1920x1080 pixels which is much smaller than the resolution of the sensor so on cameras like the 60D and 5D they scale the image down internally to the 1920x1080 format. With the 600D the camera can use the whole sensor or just just a 1920x1080 pixel section of the sensor which will have the effect of zooming in on the image. Not the same as tradition digital zoom in old cameras. Not a gimmick.
The better for me is the t3i because all features has the same the only difference is the speed and the auto focus,, if you are only a nature photographer and just taking photo with someone else i prefered t3i.. dont waste your money to 60d im sure that extra features dont affect the quality of the pictures its just the lens matter not the body its about how you take a photo with manually adjustment.. thank you

DragiTEaZZy 8 months ago 2
what is the point of your reviews? Ive been watching a lot lately in search of insight and in regards to collecting some opinions but honestly out of all the reviews ive seen yours are by far the worst...With all due respect all you do is read the statistics off a piece of paper ( Stats that we all have access to ) and state the most common sense facts. Its like your preparing this for 10 year old kids and still have trouble presenting it all.Honestly, do you even know what your talking about?

When you film on these two cameras, you can control the aperture, so the video can be selective with the objects you are focusing, or open too much the aperture so all objects could be focus?, like in photography?

A couple of missed points--
1. 60d has built-in level indicator. Very handy.
2. T3i has digital zooming for video. Doesn't lose much if any sharpness at lower magnifications because of how video makes use of sensor.
3. Someone else brought up ability to disable auto gain control on the T3i. I thought this was available on both. If not, it closes the deal for the T3i if you're serious about video.

i see all these videos about why the 60d is a better buy, and whilst the multiple cross point af is definatly much nicer, nobody seems to mention the fact the 60d is much heavier at 560g vs 755, this was the deal breaker for me, whilst i would love the upgraded polycarbonate body and better af etc, the weight means i would never carry the camera, so its redundant.
Jolinator 10 months ago
You are just reading off the paper, and it looks like you have not even tested it. Did you just go to Best Buy's website and look at the specs. You missed so much stuff here, like the AGC (auto gain control) being gone from the t3i and not the 60D. This is such a big deal in the camera for people who do film. If you don't even know that, I would not trust anything here.

if i want to film 1 hour at 1080p, what memory card size do i need someone please answer!!
lynchy8888 10 months ago
@lynchy8888 Most DSLRs shoot for a maximum of about 20 minutes. The reason being (so I was told in major photographic store here in Sydney) was that there is a higher tax on video cameras, and so they would be even more expensive if they could take video beyond 20 minutes.
I think, however, the reason is more to do with the heatsinking of the sensors. They consume a lot of power and get hot. After a while, the camera may even shut down if they reach a certain temperature.

@ArtoftheImage i'm wondering simply because im not too savvy with the tech talk. im

i m gonna buy 600d..last decision
technologies307 10 months ago
Well after holding the two, I tried the larger lens on the smaller camera and it felt terribly unbalanced. That was a big deciding factor since I already have two other large lenses.
I bought the 60D and LOVE IT. I'm still learning all the amazing new functions (coming from a 20D) and the kit lens (my first IS lens) is blowing me away.

ChristopherJacques 11 months ago
@salimnazer There is something important i forgot to say: You will change the camera body in few years... But good quality glass is for lifetime. The best investment will be good lenses. And they are not cheap. Again, 600d or 550d. And if you have money enough, well go for 5d markii. Dont forget, in photography, 600d is an entry level photo camera, 60d a prosumer (kind of more pro camera). But, Video, same both. Need something pro in a crop body? go for 7d.
deepakkamuz 11 months ago
@salimnazer You could try 600d if you want video. Think its a good deal, bc they record basically the same. If you want for photo, go for 60d. Anyway, if you are learning, got the 600d or 550d. Nice video, and you could get what is more important, glass. Its better to have a 550d with fast lens (f2-f1.8-f1.4-f1.2) than have a 7d with a f3.5 cheap lens. Then buy a 600d, and with the extra money, buy lens, or extra battery, or nice tripod, or nd filter, or etc.... regards.
deepakkamuz 11 months ago
@IIproductionsII mmm..., have to say to your comment about the 550d, if you feel its a kids toy, you should buy a 7d. Im pretty sure among the 550d, 60d, 7d: the 60d gets third place in a relation price/quality for video. And the video its basically the same for the 3 fo them. Its just the photo side. And, in that case, the extra cash you save buying the 550d, you can buy better glass. If you want something for pro ppl, buy a 5d then.

RizRykie 11 months ago
I think the 60D might have a better way to white balance for video. The T2i you have to take a picture or something like that but it still works.
The T3i i know has audio gain control. I do not know if the 60D has that audio feature.
For video people only shutter really is not a issue just for photographers only.

EdoConan 11 months ago
I film skateboarding. So the ability to capture fast motion is essential to me. I would still buy the T3i in a heartbeat over the 60D. Why? In terms of performance, the T3i covers the articulating screen, manual audio controls, better zoom capabilities, and the exact same sensor. Essentially all the reasons I would want 60D over T2i. Plus with the $500 difference, I could snag a 50mm 1.4, or an 8mm fisheye, or a professional dolly system etc. As a film maker on a budget, the choice is obvious.

boon111 8 months ago
You don't mention in the video the 600d/t3i's built-in zoom. No, you cannot zoom video in post without losing quality, but the built-in zoom is 0.1x-10x optical and therefore will for instance make a 50mm f1.4 prime a 5mm-500mm f1.4 zoom lens with maintaining quality and aperture. For video this is a large benefit. True 60D may be a better photo camera than the 600D, but you can't deny that the built-in zoom makes the 600d a possibly better video camera.
mashimarojm 1 year ago 11
@mashimarojm - I'll have to look into it further, but I can't believe that with 10X zoom the video quality is maintained. Doesn't make sense. It's likely either interpolated, or reduced quality. Basically, the video quality can't exceed the resolution of the sensor.
ArtoftheImage 11 months ago 11
@ArtoftheImage Is it not just using the extra pixels in the sensor to zoom in kind of how the Gh2 does using an 18mp sensor to take the 16mp pics and allowing you a bit of extra zoom? In hd video it's only using the center 1920x1080 pixels, with this digital zoom it's using the other ones, probably interpolated as you mentioned.
murc585 11 months ago
@ArtoftheImage From what I understand it concentrates on a smaller portion of the sensor depending on the zoom amount. Much like the crop factor between the 5dMii (full frame) and say 60D (1.6x).
akt08900890 11 months ago
@ArtoftheImage From what I understand, you can zoom in 3x without losing video quality. What it's doing is cropping a 1920x1080 region out of the full 18mp sensor. You've still got a true 1:1 pixel ratio, but the region is 1/3 the total sensor size. For the 10x zoom claim, I bet that is for 720p or lower resolutions. That, the smaller and lighter body, and the $100 price difference are the main reasons why I've chosen the T3i to replace my older MiniDV video camera.
ZombieDawg 11 months ago
@ArtoftheImage 1080p is 2MP resolution. The 600D is 18MP still and can give you 9X zoom using 1:1 pixels w/o image quality loss. I shoot a 7D and would love to have that feature brought in a future firmware release. Unfortunately I suspect there is a change in mechanics from the 7D and 60D to 600D
naftulyev 11 months ago
@ArtoftheImage The sensor is 5184 x 3456 while 1080p video is only 1,920×1,080. Get your facts right before you comment.
alienROCKZ 10 months ago
@ArtoftheImage 1080p = 2 megapixels, the sensor is 18 megapixels
Chornbeak 10 months ago
@ArtoftheImage Remember that 1080p is only about 2 megapixels and the sensor has 18 megapixels. I guess that's how they can crop without losing quality.
user10476 9 months ago
@ArtoftheImage I appreciate all your videos, but I have owned the t3i for a little while. One thing I can tell you is that the tele zoom feature on the T3i is not a gimmick. Canon is just cropping the sensor since in video you only need 2mp, not the full 18mp. It can be exceptionally useful for someone who does not have a high budget for lenses as it allows you to keep your aperture at 3x the magnification. Video quality at 3X is exceptional (the same), but afterwards it gets a little sketchy.
canadiantruthsyrup 9 months ago
@ArtoftheImage - it does maintain quality. the camera simply utilizes and different sized portion of the sensor to create the optical zoom. it's not digitally enhancing at all.
as far as video is concerned, the 600d is likely the better option (of the two)
tharpey 8 months ago
@ArtoftheImage They're not exceeding the resolution of the sensor. The sensor is 18MP, but HD video is only 2MP. So you can zoom in 3x without loss of video quality. Essentially you are cropping to use only part of the sensor because there's enough pixel density to handle it. Dunno about 10x though.
qseep 8 months ago
@ArtoftheImage ive used both the 60d and 600d, and i must say, they very similer. 60d does take better photos, but the t3i is about the same in video. plus, the t3i is nice and small (i like that, but others might not). T3I FTW!!!
sumkid101 8 months ago
@ArtoftheImage Actually, 1280x720p only uses part of the sensor so you can zoom quite a lot before losing quality. But its just a sales pitch. If you have a 60D you have a decent zoom already. 500mm 1.4 video? cant imagen a situation for something like that. specially with the high iso sensibilities these days!
nyambe 7 months ago
@Artof theImage
SupermaxCNC 11 months ago
@SupermaxCNC This seems to make perfect sense, the sensor is approx 3.5x bigger than 1080. But anything after 3.5x is interpolation.
ChristopherJacques 11 months ago
