I agree with you on the what you said, but I also think there is a reason why they did it. It seems like Priestly was just hiding behind his incredibly cute, mohawked, sarcastic tshirt wearing self. I think he was just hiding because he didnt want people to know the real him, even if the real him was a incredibly cute, mohawked, sarcastic tshirt wearing self. or He wanted to tell Tish that he could change for her, and that he was devoted that much for getting rid of his hair dye and piercings.

@holmes528 You're right, they were trying to portray that he was peeling back the layers, showing her what was underneath all the bravado and armour, but I don't think they pulled it off as well as they could have... It really only succeeded in appearing as though he'd changed his appearance to fit the 'type' she usually went for, when she should have seen past it all...

@holmes528 What annoys me, is that movies always take the easier route of changing a person's appearance dramatically to serve as a visual aide to see the deeper character changes. Sandy in Grease sexed it up to show that she was no longer fearful of taking risks with her heart, and Priestly turns into Ken-doll to show he's no longer hiding who he truly is, which is ridiculous, cos his style is a part of who he is. I wish movies would find another way to show these changes...
