  • It's like a 5 second long flame sword.

  • can you tech me how to make licke a big firecracker that is loud like a bang instead of a pop

  • why do you spik it ?

  • i also make fireworks, could you send me in a p. m. how you made the solettes?

  • 0:17 pretty :D

  • It will take a year to make enough fireworks to last 10 min. on the 4th of July. But you'll have the best ones.

  • hey do the spolettes have any thrust to them it looks and sounds like a rocket

  • where i live a guy went out side to smoke and when he was done he turned of the cigar with his shoe.... so when he went in, he took a spark on his shoe that ignited 40 kilos of black powder that obviously all the people in the room died.

  • wats with your thumb is it deformed looks abit wierd no offense if it isnt just askin

  • This is great to see someone genuinely into this. I like all the chirruping in the background too. Subscribed.

  • how you do it?

  • stupid as video

  • i was wondering... i live in Minnesota and our there any clubs that you know of in our state? Also if you would want to get involved in pyrotechnics for shows and things of that nature what kind of degree would you get in colledge or is it more of a hobbie and not a job?

  • Right now the PGI website seems to be down, which is where I would go to look for a local club. I'm sure there is one in driving distance.

As far as getting a job in pyrotechnics, it is not something a degree is usually needed for. You just need to get in contact with company owners, or make a company of your own. Either way, finding a club and making some friends is the best way to start. In most circumstances pyrotechnics is a job on the side. It is very hard to make a career out of it.

  • Watch our our pyro vids! (This Video is awesome!)

  • nice work young man, its good to hear your voice in the next video.

  • Thank you, and thank you for the subscription as well.

  • I do paste my twine in.

  • @Nighthawkinlight why not...? aka he's saying to dip your twine in paste so then when it dries it will shrink up and become tighter...

Also, I suggest you anchor the twine to a 2x4 or something in order to pull it much tighter .

  • ugly thumbs

  • have you had a chance to fire this off yet. was just wondering

  • No, likely sometime in May or June.

  • Cool. cant wait to see a video

  • Do you do thrust testing for the 1-2" BP? Also whats your powder to filler ratio, and what kind of wrappings are you using? It looked like brown wax paper.

  • I do not thrust test my BP in rockets. I am not sure what you mean by powder to filler ratio, I use straight BP as break in these canister shells. I make my casings out of the cardboard packaging of soda cans. It could be comparable to cereal boxes. All other paper I use is brown kraft.

  • Does the 'BP' stand for 'black powder'?

  • Yep.

  • please help me? how is that big thing getting in the air ? i cant imagine such a heavy thing taking off?

  • A big ol' steel multibreak shell mortar. It is fired with a charge of black powder.

  • wow

    your blackmatch is fast!

  • can i ask: why is the spiking?

  • @pyromaniac933 for an even break.

  • @pyromaniac933 it's for a better break

  • I see how you're spiking the shell and wonder where's your spiking horse? The way you're doing it will result in some pretty torn-up hands if you're making a lot of shells. I know - I did it for a living at one time...

  • I do not have one. And yes, I have noticed the effect on the hands. I'll build one one of these days.

I'm curious, in what way did you do this for a living?

  • I worked for a while at Rockingham Fireworks in NH. We mixed flash by the kilo and made 3" salutes by the hundred! Every pyro's dream!

For more on the spiking horse: please email me...

  • iv lerndso much from u and pyromite and pyrotechnics88 and lots of other freind so i just want to say thank for all the help becou at my age i sholdent be doing this but with your help iv ben l,ighting up the sky with couler o thank hope one day i get to se you

  • man, with youtube you have to be on-top with subscriptions, i missed this until now

  • aaaah now i get how the horizontal spiking works, thanks ^_^

  • Very good.

  • crap those are some FAST fuses!

  • Yep. That's the point. Other fuse does not burn fast enough to be used between shell breaks of a multibreak shell.

  • "A walk during lunch can be uplifting and refreshing...just like a Diet Coke."

That's hilarious!!!! What a great motto for fireworks ;)

I can't wait to see this thing. it will be incredible.

  • Very nice!

    5*

  • what exactly does the spolette do?

  • It is the fuse for each break.

  • nice your spolletes look like nozleess bp rockets, they would probably work to :) five stars

  • bluddy awesome:)

  • very cool sound.

i used to mix greenmix with mgal. (boric acid needed)

this gives a very fine effect, the more mgal u add,the faster the burn will be,it also worked great on a sparkler. +5

  • i cant tell by the video if you primed those fuses or not. it looks like you dipped them in wet meal. did you?

  • I did. Both ends were dipped in a BP/dextrin slurry. Both as a prime and to keep the powder secure in the fuses. If much powder falls out then it can effect the timing.

  • yes, that is indeed true. i usually dip my inserts in meal to ensure ignition. i would not reccomend dipping the fuses in star comp, bc one time i primed a salute shell in star comp and luanched above a river. the star comp burned slowly and the shell hit the water and put itself out. it was depressing. but we all learn from mistakes. at least it hit the water in a rural location rather than hitting a house and not putting itself out. thats why i took the safety precuation of the river.

  • nice shell m8 gj , love the inserts.

    and nice spolette test :D

rly want to see that in the air. 5/5

  • are there more channels like this (building fireworks) on youtube? love it :D wanna more :p

  • I at least have many.

  • yea :D and i love your vids, but idlike to watch more of that :D

  • is this on your site or do we have to wait

  • Gotta wait, sorry. Believe me, it's harder for me to wait than it is for you ;)

  • ok just let me know when its on your site i will know when its on youtube i'm subscribed i can't wait lol

  • Wow man. Amazing job. I love the test and the spikeing you do. =] You spike wayyyy differently than I. But thats fine xD. Cant wait til that gets shot up. And how far do you burry the 5" mortar?

  • The mortar gets buried a good 2'. For multibreak canister shells a longer than usual steel mortar is used.

  • Ahh

  • wow

  • My hands started aching from watching that spiking session.

    Very nice job though.

  • Yep I get a blister or two every time.

  • how come the BP didnt just blow those tubes apart?

  • Because it is rammed into them, not loose powder. It forms a solid mass that burns from one end to the other.

  • oh cool :)

and the tops were left open to allow the N2 and CO2 to escape without causing much preassure?

  • Yep. There is more than N2 and CO2 however.

  • The BP doesn't burn that fast

  • wow goodjob dude

  • great vid as always :) but what was the thing at the end (what you were putting string around) ? + what are they used for

  • That is the shell all my work was for.

  • ok thanks but what are shells used for?

  • Look up my video "5" sun and planets shell"

  • Looks perfect.

I hope you upload the video.

  • very nice!=)

  • wow! 5*

  • wow 5" ive only made a 3x6" xD

  • Looks very nice so far ;-) What's the weight on that first break?

  • 2-3 lbs

  • why do you put all the strings around that massive thing.

    nice tests :D.

  • thats gonna be amazing :) i cant to see this in the air :)

  • Can't wait to see that shell in the air!! Great vids!

  • Great vids!! keep em' coming :) any plans on payload/header tut for a bp or kno3 rocket?

  • so that is just the 1st break? and theres gonna be 3 more of those on top? wow thats gonna be a massive pile of shell

  • Yep ;)

  • Very cool man! Hope it works!

  • Hmm. 5sec seems a bit too long for the last break, or is it 2sec you are using?

Any way that shell is looking pretty good, any Idea what the other 3 are going to be?

  • Two second on the last break.

The shell is planned to be a TT/silver pattern star break, a TT/purple insert ring, a large purple break, then this shell of salutes and TT.

  • thats how you do it!

  • so could those be used to propell?

  • nice! now i see how ur 19 years old. your voice is so deep so in other vids u sound older

  • The spolettes? No, they do not produce enough thrust to lift themselves.

  • 4th comment! NICE VID!!!

  • 5/5 another nice video =)

  • pretty sure it makes a better break

  • What's that your using to spike the shell? I thought sisal was the best...

  • I am using several wraps of cotton here. Thin string is required to prevent buildup as I add breaks to the shell.

  • Very nice! 5*

  • Please excuse me for my lack of knowledge, but why do you have to wrap the shell in twine?

  • i think he does it so it doesnt fall apart i do know truly though. those shells shoot up pretty fast you know?

  • better compression

  • its called "spiking", it is the process of winding strong string around the outer surface of a shell to produce a more regular bursting pattern

  • Spiking with string is time consuming and laborious. Give fibreglass reinforced gaffer tape a go. Really lowers the tone to a boom, rather than a crack or bang.

  • Fiberglass tape is not suitable for multibreak canister shells. It is most often used on ball shells. Spiking with actual string is very necessary.

  • tape of any kind will stretch good spiking string does not and when making ball shells a shell pasted with paper and paste will break nicely one make with tape will never break as nicely with out using heaps of booster

  • yeah i'm sure you're both right as far as a uniform break. I've only used the fibreglass packing tape on 3inch chinese salute shells.

Obviously there's no need for a symetrical break, but it certainly does a nice job at turning a crack into a boom.

  • Not true. Fiberglass tape will not stretch. It is very often used with great success on ball shells.

  • your saying it has no give at all didnt say it wouldnt work just you compare it with a properly pasted shell and you can tell the difference

  • It does have no give at all, fiberglass does not stretch. Fiberglass tape has a tensile strength of ~150 lbs/inch in diameter. It has been used to make competition worthy shells, with and without additional spiking.

  • Edit: Additional *pasting*
