Essentially they were breeding states, sending their product -- slave children -- to the Deep South. So the wealthy in the South became desperate to spread slavery to the new territories, which caused the Civil War.

Essentially they were breeding states, sending their product -- slave children -- to the Deep South. Everyone knew it, it was no secret. the Deep SOuth eventually got enough slaves -- so there was a hyperabundance of slaves. But the birth rate continued. So the wealthy in the South became desperate to spread slavery to the new territories, which caused the Civil War.

Pat -- ever state that issued Declaration of Causes sure mentioned slavery first and foremost. . But some also mentioned other issues -- but ALL issues were about slavery. The biggest cover up about the war is two things 1) Many in the SOuth hated or would not support the confederacy. 2) Over 3/4 of the Confederate soldiers they managed to force in the army, deserted. Davis himself said 2/3 of the soldiers deserted, for example.

But you must know that at one point being a slave was racially identifiable as being strictly to blacks after the invention of the cotton gin. The Cotton Gin and mass cotton production encouraged the demand for black slaves high around 1795-1860. Being black only meant one thing and that was slavery.

there were plenty of free blacks running around in the south. the 6% rich planter minority did use slave labor nobody can deny that but there were black slave holders as well as white and native american, not to mention the scores of free blacks who had been living in the south before the cotton gin was invented. They weren't suddenly enslaved. It was looked at as worse than a felony to enslave a free person regardless of race.

Free blacks not only "ran around", but also engaged in slavery. The U.S. census of 1830 shows that there were 3,775 free blacks who (collectively)owned 12,740 slaves. Some even sold their children into slavery. And another interesting fact worth noting is that the First Slave owner in America was a man named Anthony Johnson, of Northampton, Virginia, oh and he was black. His slave was named John Casor, who was the first slave for life. Slavery was wrong, but it wasn't just the whites doing it.

write - the "enslave the black" thing would have fallen apart - as more mixed race came by the many rapes. In fact, many women who could pass for white, but came from black mothers, were being enslaved. These women were highly prized, and typically used in whore houses in New Orleans. A huge reason for slavery was the pussy it gave the slave owner.

The one's that managed to purchase their freedom by running away, working, or the master allowing them to be hired out due to having a special skill permitted them to keep part of the wages earned(if master was kind). Once free most "rented or leased" and not "purchased" land due to not being able to purchase if permission wasn't granted which was rare. If a black was a slave owner understand that blacks were the labors on any farm no matter who owned it.

Black free farmers could not by white slaves at the time, because whites weren't for sale. And yes, during colonization white were used as indentures servants as repayment for debt only and not for life and some had to convert to Christianity before released, also know that England sent criminals to work. To the Natives and blacks they were given the lifetime contract in most cases but that was in the 1600's, you seem to crunch every thing into on era, and that not the case.

It stands as an example that we were able to make far superior ironclads even without anti-strike gangs and massive cities to build them in.

There was no Union equivilant of the Arkansas, which attacked an entire task force singlehandedly and caused THEM to run. Even still it was smaller and not as well armed as Virginia. Virginia stood toe to toe with Monitor despite having left behind its armor piercing shells (due to bad intel). Fear of a properly armed Virginia is why the original Monitor never led any kind of attack afterwards.

Did you no that the citizens of Missouri joind the Union by a ratio of three to one and in Kentucky it was two to one. The real winners of the ACW were northern industrialists and other war profiteers who made themselves fat off the dead on both sides.
