I have once competed in a tournament. I was four-player, every man for himself. The winners of each match as well as the person with the most kills besides the winner would move on to the next round. Each person could register only one playable character, the stages would be random, and the only items aloud were the Pokeballs, the Smash Ball, and the Dragoon parts, and items were on low.

The rules were that each stage would be at random with Battlefield, Final Destination and the Custom levels being turned off at random select. Every time a stage had been picked by random, that stage would be turned off and never played in again in the tournament (because there were about sixty participants, all the stages that were turned off were turned back on after all 39 available stages were used).

The prefinal round (the very last four-way battle of the tournament) would be set in Battlefield while the Final Battle would be fought in Final Destination. The Final Battle would be between the winner and the person with the most kills (besides the winner if necessary) from the prefinal round. Winner of that fight wins the tournament. I should also point out that the other two prefinalists had the option of fighting each other in a standard platform custom stage for third place as well.

I made it to the Prefinal round of that tournament as Sonic. I was fighting against Zelda, Ike and Luigi and the latter ended up winning the tournament against Zelda (I tied with Luigi in number of kills while Zelda one that prefinal round; I was merely the first one eliminated which meant that in case of a tie in number of kills, then place would be the trump card). However, I did fight Ike and won, making third place.

I then decided to give them the idea to host a Brawl tournament (the people that worked there knew me), and I decided to contribute my Wii and controllers to make the tournament possible. As a result, me and my brother (who I took third place from) were able to compete for free.
