Reviewing S4C this week is like someone who hates tennis reviewing the BBC during Wimbledon. Either way it's not going to end well.
S4C has the luxury of having the capacity to broadcast anything they like 24 hours a day but not the budget to fill it. So when they do have something like the Eisteddfod (Urdd and Genedlaethol) which is relatively cheap to produce, they will use it to max out the hours and save the cash for some other content elsewhere.
Hmmm... S4C's shows aimed at children are pretty good in my opinion. They're probably the channel's strongpoint ... and I love the Cyw animation style! The news is a lot better than BBC or ITV (ITV Welsh 'regional' news is pretty damn colonial in it's tone). Their documentaries have been interesting lately - Yr Ynys and Iolo Williams series on Native Americans were both excellent.
It's just Eisteddfod yr Urdd, dude. Eisteddfod yr Urdd is like the Tesco lager of eisteddfodau. Huge kudos for capturing the sense of S4C there: the obvious attempt to look "hip" coupled with requisite beauty shots. When I was interviewed about Eisteddfod yr Urdd they strangely put me on a seaside cliff for the thing.
Da iawn met, nes i fwynhau hwna. Yn bersonol, dwi di rhoi gorau i wylio s4c ers iddyn nhw rhoi gorau i wneud c'mon midffild!

I'm not sure why there isn't more comedy on S4C. I'm not a fan of gog humour, but a comedy set in the western valleys would be good.

But yeah, their Eisteddfod coverage does tend to be excessive. I'm not much of an eisteddfodwr myself.
