This clip shows why I am so frustrated by Gruberova. She has technique to burn, but not always the best taste. She can sing all the runs and high notes and trills, but she too often uses straight tone, which distorts the line and causes intonation problems. When she just sings without that kind of thing, she is marvelous.....great big voice with amazing technique.
And why is it great conductors like Karajan and Böhm and many others of the time thought she was a extraordinary soprano?... because it doesn´t "click"... rude or not it is the truth. Doesn´t click in your ear cause you´re deaf!.
What is the truth? According to who? Nothing is written in stone when it comes to art matters. I never said she was not an extraordinary soprano. She is an amazing singer. If I am deaf then you are blind and illiterate because you didn't read my post. I said that it does not click FOR ME. There is certain quality of her voice that I find unpleasant... to me, to my ears, can't you respect that?
Nope, I am sorry. I know many people that feel the same way. Why is it so difficult to understand that what is beautiful for me may not be for you? I never questioned her technique, just the quality of her voice.
Yes, micioamilano, her voice live just reverberates the whole hall, it just projecits so well, a lot of good singer live are not necessarily good in recording and vice versa.
Magnificent singing! "Amor" is a great lied, but it's so difficult that I understand why it's not sung so often. Gruberova sings it amazingly, her technical skills show what an exciting music this is. However, my favourite version of "Amor" is definitely the one by Elizabeth Parcells. It's a legendary recording, surprisingly even better than the great Gruberova's (of course, in my opinion). ;-)

Love Edita, saw her on a New Years Eve
concert late 70/s or early 80/s on telly, have never seen it since She sang the Lucia
mad scene and brought the house down. I think it was from Vienna or Salsbourg. Don't suppose
you know where I could see it again. I can't find it. Thanks. J.

You are rude. Have you heard about the term "beauty is in the eyes of the listener"?

Well, everybody that I know loves her. I don´t care about you liking her nor not. And the quality... it´s spectacular. That´s why she´s so unknown.

It is spectacular in your ears and the ears of many, many fans. But that does not give her an obsolute value. Learn to respect other's opinions.
TheAleph74 3 years ago
because of the quality of her voice she´ll be remembered. I don´t care about your clicking.

Well, if you don't care, why did you start attacking me? LOL... you don't make sense!

because like I said, you must be deaf!

See? With your aggressive attitude, you are showing very little intelligence and respect. How sad, especially for man your age.

haveu listened to her LIVE? if not, it's not the best thing to judge her voice only from the recordings. she sounds much better when singing live.

This reminds me so much of Grossmachtige Princezzin, same composer though so I see why.
