I'm not that impressed by the "talking guitar" bit, my mate Dave's Electrolarynx sounded just like that when we circuit-broke it for a laugh. To be fair, though, I expect Mr. Frampton did a whole lot less flailing about than Dave did when the EL's entire battery accidentally discharged into his neck.
Normally I refuse to comment on the like/dislike bar, I must however make an exception. If you dislike this you should have your face removed with a belt sander, then your finger/toenails pulled off individually then a good old fashioned drawing and quartering, very slowly and possibly over an open fire...
saw him last night in Indianapolis. One of the best guitar shows I ever saw. Don't miss the tour if you get a chance. Nearly 3 hours and it flew by, that's how good it was.
This is one of the greatest rock songs of all time, maybe the very best. Guitar riffs after the vocals qualify as something beyond music - actually a musical journey, a transformational experience. I feel that the guitar melody almost represents a mystical journey through the Universe, and indeed Multiverse.
I'm Black and from Africa my chances of knowing this song were slim, yet somehow I listen to this song, The amazing sound, and the Godly ending that it has. God Bless America for its music and its Musicians.
A sherman back at this time was referring to a cigarette that was dipped in PCP. They were the "in" thing for awhile but were extremely bad for you so they faded out. There is also footage of Frampton performing this song live and he motions like he is smoking a joint when he sings this line. This is one of the best lines of the song..if you know the real meaning.
Hey This is A simple story decribe, put in laymans terms, to some hot sexy Jimmy Hendrix, popping those string, with the right fingers, one mind a-cord,,,,loved it's presitation,,.
I believe you are, for the most part, correct. Except as the song was written back in the early 70s, I don't believe they had airbags. My guess would be that "hit the bag" is either a drug reference or "bag" as in slang for old lady. Maybe an old lady was in the taxi?
@crhymethinc It is "hit the back"..as in the back of a car. Also this word ryhmes with "crack". In "American" English it would have been. Drove into a taxi, dented the trunk, hit the back.
twoducks, Agree! Found this two nights ago, made it a "favorite" and marvel each time at the immense contribution each artist on stage and behind the scenes made to music when this was recorded. Simply a classic. If I were teaching a course on rock music of that era, this recording would be part of the curriculum. Thanks so much, Adnormal!Girl
I wore out two copies of the Frampton Comes Alive two record set back in the college in the 70's. I honestly don't think I knew anyone who did not have have this record
If the transistion from the voice box at 11:30 isn't one of the coolest all time arrangements in music history, I don't know crap about music. (and I've been involved with it a long long time) He REALLY heats it up from there...Unreal.
This song is brilliant. It's that kind of music that should only be listen really loud!
When I'm driving my dad's to college or some other place, and I'm the only one in the car, everytime I listen to this song, I turn the volume almost to the maximum and it feels awesome!
One of the best feelings I've had, since I love driving and I love this song! :D
Everyone that loves driving and loves this song aswell should try this.
back in the 70's I was strictly R&B... then one night driving my red chevell? can't remember, and I heard this song.... Man I wanted to play a guitar!
This outstanding tune closed an era of music that had it's start in 66, picked up momentum, perfected & matured thru the end of the 60s, peaked 70 - 73 then slid down hill in quantity to it's demise when it went out with a bang with this excellent work of art. PF is truly on the top 6 list of greatest guitarist.
FRAMPTON is without a doubt the best guitaristI have ever heard...He can make me close my eye's and be some place else, where I do not have any idea but he is awesome
I'm glad that you did this; this is one of the best versions. I was wondering what version this comes from also. He is awesome and makes everyone feel the way he feels every time he sings this song! Just heard him live on 8-3 in Riverside CA. Wow!
Dude, I was 14 when I got this album and wore it out and then bought another vinyl. At some point got it on CD and just the other day found it and thru it in when me and my now 14 year old son were cruisin' around. At first he thought I was nuts doing the solos on the steering wheel, but tonight heading home from his soccer practice he asked me to put it in again and we rocked it. Magical!
WOW!! I was 16 back in 1976 when I first listen to Peter Frampton and that was on the radio, I remember I was on vacation with my parents and younger brother in Mc Allen tx, (we are from Guanajuato, Mexico) by the time i turned the radio on they announced this new song from PF, and I remember my dad saying "wow, this guy is great!! Idon´t mind listening to that kind of rock!!!" I´m so glad he really introduced me to this music, greetings from beautiful Mexico!!!
Which version is this? I always hear this on the radio, but I can't figure out which version it is....but either way......it's the best version of this epic that I've heard.
The best performance of this song. Still no video available? Anywhere?

Isn't it "Drove INTO a taxi" (as in an accident) and not "Drove HIM to a taxi?"
("Bent the boot"= dented the trunk. "Hit the bag"= bounced off of the air bags.)
Bust up your ride and play music to feel better! Let it out! :)
C'mon... who's with me here??? :)
(There are more mistakes in the "lyrics", but, I'll stop here..;)
