Yes, it looks bizarre and shocking for some people.

Central nervous system of insect is so different from ours.

According to books, several semi-independent control centers are distributed along body axis.

The most illustrious example of their autonomy is, as you know, decapitated male mantid can contitue mating with female.

yeah I know, and also supposedly a cockroach can live up to a month without a head. I haven't tried it to see if it's true though :)
