I saw her in Vegas on May 5th doing this same bit, along with several other classics, although I didn't remember seeing this before (managed to score a free ticket, front row, so she was at times ten feet away from me). She was excellent and well worth seeing if you get the chance.
Does anyone have the SNL season 2 of her doing the Telephone Comapnay ad where she says "we don't care were the phone comapny" repeatedly I eed to show this to someone.
Genius, genius, genius. Funny, inciteful, her face - SO expressive. Lily Tomlin has been my favorite since I was a kid & saw her on "Laugh In". One of the greats!
The last 5 minutes of her one woman show "The Search For Signs of Intelligence in the Universe" can bring you to tears, make you laugh, and of course give you goosebumps (!)
oh...I do miss these folkies: Lily Tomlin, Carol Burnett, Gilda Radner, Bernadette Petters, ... they brought in so many dimensions into a form of art that so few can carry out with a heart felt tradition. : )
:D their humour embodied so much depth and reality that it lent itself well for those who were living their lives as best as they could. Fortunately, folkies are sharing snippets of their comedy via networks such as youtube and such...thanks for your comment and best wishes.
The sad thing deeliciousplum, is that over the past 30 years the humanity in entertainment that we enjoyed and loved with Tomlin, Burnett, Radner and Peters has been replaced by computer generated special effects and "reality" shows that are not real. Like you, I miss the humanity of these artists.
moi aussi... je manque beaucoup tout ça... missing so much the curves, the relief, the geniusness of tghose real, r/e/a/l artists!! but more and more we're becoming pre-hystorical. these new generations don't know what real beauty, real art is. art is supossed to tmake us transcend!
Thank you for posting this. What a star. Every actor wants a career like Lily Tomlin has. She's been in the business 4 decades, stayed true to herself, and has only worked with the best. She turns 68 today, just came off another successful tour, and has three new projects coming out this year alone. Go Lily!!
Comic genius. how did she THINK of this?

Her bits are always so poetic. Love how she ends with a one-liner that's been repeated through out the act.

Lily is a genius!
Anyone have the clip where she comes out to the line waiting to see Intelligent Life dressed as Ernestine as an usher? OMG--so funny!

I've always just adored Lil. As a teenager in the '70's I had all of her albums (albums!) and had long monologues memorized. Lil's the best.
