  • I remember being presented with this book at about 4 years old. I adored it and this little animation brings back that wonder and joy nearly forty years on- thank you.

  • Damn this kid's got more artistic talent then me...

  • I was just told I can't draw my way to the moon. Pshhh! Yeah right! Me and my purple crayon are OUT!

  • i used to love harold and the purple crayon when i was little

  • i wonder when the crayon runs out...

  • with MY young children, that is

  • It's rather tricky to watch this with your young children and then have to explain what a FeministWhore is... : /

  • This was my favorite book as a kid!! I was thrilled to find a copy in a used bookstore years ago. The power of our imagination creates our world!

  • This kid sounds like freakin' God!!! XD

  • the book made me like the color purple

  • Funny, I'd never heard of these books or the cartoon while growing up... I got the book for my little guy just a few days ago from the library, then I noticed that there are cartoons as well. Both of my kids love this now and so do I

     :-)

  • I love it.

  • It's been so damn long since I watched this! I used to love watching this over and over again when I was like 6

  • I wish childrens' cartoons were still like this.

  • @CarlChub IKR!

  • What kind of symbolism do you see?

I just love the wild imagination this kid has. I believe my generation to be the last with any sorta vivid expression. Kids nowadays only want violence and sex, it's in their video games and even their TV shows.

  • @c1nico This is how I feel too.

  • thumbs up if all that sent you here was the stories you read as a kid :D

  • I <3 Harold!!

  • lol, i loved these books when i was little...

  • this made me oddly happy

  • I still got my book from when I was 7 :)

  • Thumbs up if Mac Miller sent you here through twitterrrr!!!!

  • mac miller sent me here

  • lol

  • This kid is a Drawing Genius!!!!! hes like what 4!!!! he draws trees better than me!!!!!

  • i love how it says "lighting and scenery: harold" at the end.

  • i want that purple crayon !!! my two favorite things a purple crayon and a baby named harold!!

  • Harold's my idol!!!:)

  • Oh My Jesus i remember watching this when i was a little girl . Soooo many good memories , I got a tear on my eye;(

  • If I was Harrold, I'd draw myself a big mansion, a twin turbo Lamborghini and a girlfriend.

  • @TheNoisePolluter *Forever Alone

  • @TheNoisePolluter yeah you would draw a girlfriend since you've never had one.

  • I got this on VHS

  • Reminds me of 'limbo' in Inception.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • I think my favorite book when I was a youngster.

  • God, Harold is a fucking MAGICIAN. And a child protegee artist!!!

  • Omg! I love Harold and the Purple Crayon! No one I know remembers it! Unbelieveable... Glad u have an ORIGINAL episode! Thanks for letting me not look so crazy for "imagining" this book/cartoon :o)

    @tiktoktonia - Follow me ;o)

  • @crawfordtonia I remember....

  • inception

  • Love Harold, the creativity, wow, we create our own reality!

  • Hahaha, I love this. I had the book. And it was adorable how they had light and scenery by Harold in the credits. XD

  • the animation was so much more impressive when i was 5.

  • my son loves harold and does in fact "imagine" with his purple crayon... awe Harold you are an idol!!!

  • i like purple matter fact our school is going on a fieldtrip to playhouse squre on the 25th daysia 7

  • I can imagine people watching this and believing if they carry a purple crayon with them everywhere in life, they can get themselves into and out of trouble with little to no problem.

  • OH MY GOD HAROLD YOU LEARNED SO MANY VALUABLE LESSONS BUT PLEASE TRY TO BE CAUTIOUS IN LIFE YOU MIGHT NOT ALWAYS BE SO LUCKY BUT I HOPE THE BEST FOR YOU LITTLE GUY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Purple is the color of sexual frustration?" You need to get a life. That is one of the most ignorant things I have ever heard!

  • this used to be my favorite show on HBO, but it's now changed from back then...

  • Rife with symbolism!? Hardly... its a children's story- interpretation is left in the eye of the beholder. AND, Harold has this lil invisible helper called white-male privilege. I think we create our own 'reality'... destiny by definition is out of our control.

Besides... purple is the color of sexual frustration...

    Dig the post, though.

  • @maneatingorchids I like purple..

  • @maneatingorchids

Destiny, by definition, is a relative and theoretical concept. The more accurate view is simply the law of cause and effect; that all actions and events in one's future are resultant of their present and past thoughts/actions. It is a very logical principle, and probably best explained in buddhist teachings.

  • hahahaha i used to watch this all the time as a kid!

  • Boy, I used to watch this all the time....I haven't seen this in nearly fifteen years.

  • Because, you know, the kids watching this at the age where it'd still be interesting to them, think of what you're thinking.

  • Hey, Harold, one of my favorite stories as a kid. You can see my video on it in the related videos "A Treatise of Harold and the Purple Crayon".

  • People are so literal, even with metaphors.

I think iot is about lateral thinking....ontological anarchy FTW!

    ;-D

  • @BobChaos23 "Iot" FTL...

  • Thanks for the memories.

I am purposefully ignoring any symbolism this once. Spoils the nostalgia for me.

  • Am i dirty minded? or is there a whole other sub-rosa narrative going on here centering on harold's big-purple-cock** cough* cough** ahem, i mean, his crayon

  • This brings back memories.

  • My favorite pie is blueberry so the purple crayon would work reasonably well for that. Just saying.

  • I used to love this show when it came on HBO Family. But are you ever going to show or tell us the symbolism, I'm a little slow...

  • "All we are trying to do in our lives is go home."

I never heard of this story, it certainly is interesting.

  • Of course it's full of symbolism - a male child drawing his own personal mythscape is bound to be. Interestingly, he never drew a weapon of any kind, but then everything in the mythscape is inanimate, and his hands were full of, er, purple crayon.

  • I don't know what the symbolism was, other than the apple tree, but it did remind me of a nice swedish cartoon i used to watch called alfons aberg. :)

  • I did notice a little religious symbolism.

  • I don't get it, but I wish I was able to draw as good as harold :D
