  • That one dislike was because he/she didnt approve of that hairstyle at 2:07

  • Carolyn, you're my hero!

  • For the people who want polygamy banned because allegedly there is the possibility of one or more partners getting abused, I look forward to them taking up the struggle to ban monogamy, since abuse happens there as well. Different relationship structures are not any more abusive, it is the people in those relationships that determine whether they are abusive or not. Just like polygamy, guns don't kill or abuse people, people abuse or kill people.

  • i hope everything works out for her

  • @ItsYourcailonCN8 Carolyn's Jessop book Escape do you know if it's also aveilable in spanish want to start reding it right now this a hero woman she should help other girls that want to escape the ranch and are brain wash. Congratulations Carolyn for you book. Even if it's not aveilable in Spanish i'm going to try to read it in English with a dictionary on the side as my eNGLISH IS NOT TO GOOD

  • I love this Woman SO much,

  • @chubbypekingnese- I like your post. personally though I think the issue surfaced when it was made aware of the happenings in the FLDS and the YFZ compounds. Underage and forced marriages are aganist the law. The state left the compounds alone until they were aware of the abuse. Under Jeffs power the religon became a cult. But to agree with your post I, who is not a polygamist, dont see an issue with mutiple marragie between consenting, willing adults who are free to also be themselves.

  • @bear010356 Very Well said i totally agree "CONSENSUAL WILLING ADULTS " not children with no decision making abilities being forced-in to this with fears of being sent away with no family contact and no way to survive. i think the group focuses waay tp much on the religous aspect and much of the problem has a lot to do with 1man trying ti rule an entire community NOT GOOD just like politics and democracy cant satisfy all neither can this!!!!!!!!

  • @NANCYSIMPSON85 thank you... i've been saying this same thing in other threads

  • She has such an amazing book and she's such amazing person I'm so glad she followed her heart and got away!

  • Why does the media view polygamy as bad but homosexual marriage is OK?

Shouldnt we allow both since they are both personal choices of the people involved?

Im sure not all polygamist marriages are abusive like not all homosexual marriages will be void of abuse.

If we agree to remove what our society has deemed the "moral norms" then we should allow people to do what they want. Even if you dont like what comes from it.

Isnt that tolerance of other ideas?

  • @chubbypekingnese i dont think its the polygamy part, its mostly the fact that underage girls are being forced into marriage. So it isnt always their choice, this is what the government is trying to prevent. Honestly i dont think they care about the multiple wives thing at all

  • @yourcriptanite1 The title is ESCAPED FROM POLYGAMY.

If their beef was about under aged girls getting force into marriage Id think they would have put that in the title.

The age of consent is different in different parts of the country.

I know a few people that would swear up and down that they were "forced" into a bad marriage...and I went to their weddings

Cohersion doent neccessarily meet the legal definition of forced.

Im just saying that the media needs to be just as liberal w/ this

  • I am glad I'm an atheist. Religious extremism is dangerous.

  • I just don't know what to think about polygamy in the mormon community. I believe that if it were a jointly agreed situation that had nothing to do with religion that it could work for some families, but when people are born into the lifestyle and feel as though they are in danger of being 'banished' the situation forces people to live unhappy lives. There's also something particularly off-putting about the age differences and forced nature of some of the marriages.

  • Just because this woman had a bad experience doesn't mean that polygamy is bad. It means that one husband was bad. Duh.

  • Yes, I agree that she is brave..etc.. ok, agreed. However, let's not get carried away: I TOTALLY believe her story, yes, but come on... I'm sure that her writing a book had SOMETHING to do with receiving royalty cheques, and this appearance plugs it ALOT. Once again, I totally agree; very brave woman, and I do believe what she is saying, but I like to take everything with just a tiny grain of salt and just a tiny healthy hint of cynicism. Just my opinion.

  • What a brave woman.

  • It is slavery. Some one I know wrote a letter To Senator John McCain about it, and They wrote back we have viewed this as a religious freedom. It's wrong and NON-AMERICAN

  • can anyone give me any information on how to write a book? I'm from the FLDS and I have another side to the story besides the Polygamy. It's not even about the Polygamy. the FLDS are completely different than everyone thinks. I need to tell my story.

  • @SmitHolm Yeah.......

  • I'm glad this woman got a lot of support!!! I think this interview should be enough to justify the "attack" by the feds when they took the children from that compound!! I hope the children are saved from this!

  • "Escape" is an amazing book and very real and eye-opening. I think everyone should read this. It's hard to believe that even today this is still happening. A great book and Carolyn Jessop is a very brave woman.

  • ban religion

  • @RoadlessPath I agree!

  • That's nothing compared to what human beings are willing to do in the name of their religion. Look at Islam for chilling examples.

  • @Millicent124

You mean stop racism, give women the right to vote, advance in society with out being brain washed for sex.

Being the fastest growing religion in the world even after being discriminated for 9-11 when the US destroyed there own WTC which was based on the moques of MEcca just to get oil.

  • Stolen Innocence & Escape sound like very good books to read. Though the statistic's are few that leave: It is worthy of praise to see these women get out of this twisted corruption of their society/cult that they've been involved in. I believe once they leave it, they have their minds set that they do not want to be apart of it & that is why they are leaving: Their mind is made up to separate themselves from it.

  • I am reading Stolen Innocence and omg it is so distrubing and makes one wonder why someone can be treated that way you deff have to read it !!

  • @Blessed2BeeAlive I am reading Stolen Innocence now - what a good book!

  • do you think she still calls her self a mormon?

  • I've just finished the book and while she doesn't specifically address this she does say near the end of the book:

"Brian is Jewish and he took me to his synagogue and taught me about some of his beliefs and traditions. It was interesting to me, but at the moment I'm not in the market for another God."

I guess she doesn't really consider herself anything, and I can't say I blame her.

  • nope, she said in an interview question that she's nondenominational.

  • Thanks, I'll check it out!

  • I don't see how the cult doesn't get in trouble for plural marriages. The constitution does allow freedom of religions, but can limit with laws.

If you listen carefully to her you can sometimes hear that creepy "accent" come out that all the women in the FLDS are taught to have. (watch more videos and you'll see.) I say that with no disrespect to Carolyn. God bless her. :)

  • why do all these women have the same hairdo?

  • I believe it has to do with not seeking to be seen as different or more beautiful then the other. It's seen as vanity & a threat & is frowned on, as she (Carolyn Jessop) said in her interview here. I know it is hard to catch everything with so many details.

  • I'm reading her book right now. She is a very brave woman and I applaud her. I wish more of these women would see the bondage they are being kept in by their husbands and their religion and would get out like she did.

  • You should read "stolen innocence" by elissa wall she's great . Its about the FLDS polygamy too.

  • wow this woman is truly an inspiration.

  • @tmakgirl48 Her two books Escape and Triumph are fantastic! I have so much respect for her!

  • alot of these women are excluded from society as we know it, and are poorly educated with few oppourtunities not even have access to their own monney, women that manage to leave often loose everything they have and have to learn to live in a whole new world with little or no support from others around them
